    The actual weight of the steering wheel is 2119 grams. I totally messed up its weight in the video.

      @@JulianNDL Thank you for checking and responding! That’s really thoughtful! Also good to know that the V2 got a diet from the original, but it sounds like it’s still a bit too heavy for the R9 in your experience?
      I’m working on a project to build a rig for my aging father. His doctor says he needs a hobby that’ll get him out of bed or he’ll not live much longer. He used to love to work on his car and race, but can’t really leave the house.
      But he has always refused to play driving games because “they don’t feel like a car.” Ofc, that’s from one time with a plastic wheel on the PS1.
      So I’ve been trying the impossible task of building my first ever rig from scratch that will feel as convincing as possible. Which means I’ve learned too much about these wheels, bases, etc!
      I think I’ve settled on the Alpha 15NM with GT Pro Round Wheel, K2X Pedals, and the Track Racer RS6 cockpit paired to a VR set up. If he gets hooked he can buy his own H box shifter!

      @@piedpiper1172 In ACC i felt a difference in FFB compared to the EFS formula wheel, maybe also because of its shape,, but in WRC 10 the diiference was minimal, maybe for most people unnoticeable.
      I had the same problem with my father and I was always pushing him to go out, take a walk, do something, anything. I hope your dad will love the setup and appreciate your work in building it, because i know how it is to enter the rabbit hole of simracing.
      Wow that's an insane setup, but are you sure about VR? I couldn't make my parents to like anything related about VR plus they always got dizzy from it, and couldn't resist more than a few minutes. Instead of VR I would recommend a triplescreen setup.

      @@JulianNDL My Experience is that people are much more vulnerable to VR sickness when they play a game that involves moving your position as opposed to being seated like a racing or flying game. I got him to try the headset once before in Elite Dangerous and he didn’t get uneasy.
      Really, it’s just that VR is much less expensive. A Quest 2 is only $300, while 3 good OLCD panels are going to be 3-4x more. Plus stands. But both set ups require the same PC hardware (a 4080 or 7900xtx) to drive fps. My PC already has everything I need, though once I build and begin testing I may upgrade my personal VR headset.
      I basically only get one chance for him to try the first rig. We don’t live that close. If it doesn’t feel strikingly like driving a car, then I doubt he’ll do it. But this is completely capping out my budget, so I’m pressed for every dollar. Honestly it’s exceeding it, but I’m working some extra gigs.
      I didn’t pick the K2X pedals cus they’re pretty or easy to set up! 🤣 Though I did recently pull a set of pedals (and a pristine seat!) from a 2012 Camaro SS at a junkyard, so I’m hoping to use those faceplates to improve the looks a little.
      My plan is to have it set up with as close to his car (heavily modded 2010 Camaro SS) I can get at the start of the Tail of the Dragon in Assetto Corsa. It seems like the mod support and game engine will give the best version of that.
      He’s driven that route for decades. Gonna tell him to sit down and put it in gear.
      If he likes it, I’m confident he will be willing to buy and build a rig. So mine has to feel as close to a car as it can for what I can afford. The problem is he’s such an experienced driver that I’m not gonna be able to slip much by him.
      As it is, the use of paddle shifters is kinda rough-but I can’t really afford an extra $200 for an H Box, and from what I’ve heard they all (aside from the like, $1k active feed back models), really don’t feel like a real manual and allow gamey stuff like moving the lever and then punching the clutch for instant shifting. He’d pick up on that so quick!
      I wish I could be confident in stepping down to the Trak Racer RS6 rather than the R8 Pro for my initial set up, but so few reviews exist and the ones that do are usually earlier models.
      Anyway: Thank you for the answers. I think I’m going to try to push and get the Simagic Alpha 15nm with a GT Pro Round wheel, but it’s nice to know the Moza R9 + RS V2 is at least viable.
      I suppose I should buy Assetto Corsa while it’s on steam sale…

    • @JulianNDL
      @JulianNDL  Рік тому

      That's good if he has no problem playing in VR. Wow that is so cool that he has a modified Camaro, and he also drove it on the Tail of the Dragon. I am really curious if he'll like driving on the simrig or not. Maybe, if it would be possible, leave a reply here after he tests it out and let me know how was his first experience and if he liked it or not.
      As a small hint, don't buy Assetto Corsa from Steam. You can purchase a key from third party websites for as low as 5 dollars and activate it on Steam. That's how I buy most of my games, and it doesn't break my bank account. Have a look on G2A(.)com. They have really good prices.

    Hello, I hope you will answer, I have had a Logitech g29 for two years and it still works perfectly, maybe it has some drops from time to time, it doesn't seem like it but I don't realize it, I would like to go to a level Quite superior. I play from the desk and use quite calmly, Corsa trim, project Cars, f1 etc. I was thinking about the t300 RS gt, which I hear from some that is very good And from others that it has issues with force feedback, overheating etc. I would like to move to a slightly higher level, however, with a steering wheel that will last me over time and that I will never change again. (I don't even consider direct drives because they would destroy my desk)

      Hi Francesco. Thank you for your message. I do my best to answer every comment. I can't recommend any belt driven or gear driven steering wheel. Indeed the T300 would be a small step up from the G29. That's exactly how i started simracing. But, after owning two T300s, i can't recommend it anymore, especially if you are looking to buy it new. The first T300 i owned was overheating really bad and after two months of owning it, it's power source broke. I bought another T300, this time new, but it overheated again so i sent it back. I would strongly recommend to buy the Moza R5 bundle. I know, it costs a little bit more than a T300, but the R5 is literally a tank. I don't think that it will ever brake. You can easily use it on your desk, you can set the force feedback as strong as you desire, so it won't be a problem mounting it on a desk, plus it has included in the package the table cpamp. I guarantee you will never regret jumping to a DD wheel, and comming from a G29 it will feel like night and day difference. Once you have decided what wheel you will buy, please let me know. I am curious what you'll chose.

    Great review. I'm looking to buy the cs v2 and r9 v2 soon. I wonder which camera are you using in this video and how to fix it like this on your body (I presume) without any movement? It's a gimball camera holder or something else?

    • @JulianNDL
      @JulianNDL  Рік тому +2

      Hi Ruske! Thank you. You won't regret buying this combo. If you're transitioning from a smaller wheel, it may feel strange at first to switch to a 330 mm wheel. However, once you get used to it, you won't want to go back to a smaller one. In the video, the camera is mounted on a flexible mobile arm that is fixed to the monitor stand. When I record videos on my triple screen setup, I have the camera mounted on a helmet so that it is right on my eyes level. I use a GoPro 10 Black edition.

    • @JulianNDL
      @JulianNDL  Рік тому +1

      Do you refer to the 12 inch mod for the ES or the regular ES? It all depends on which wheel base you have. If you have the R5, i think it's better to go with the 12-inch mod. The CS is a heavy and big steering wheel, and you can feel that even with the R9.

    • @mohammadnashitsiddiqui2168
      @mohammadnashitsiddiqui2168 Рік тому +1

      @@JulianNDL the regular ES. I considered this generally as an all rounder, there's an Acelith F1 steering Mod for the CS too btw, my main concern is if there's a general lack of FFB from the R9?

    • @JulianNDL
      @JulianNDL  Рік тому

      @mohammadnashitsiddiqui2168 No, there is not. You can feel the FFB a little bit weaker by a maximum of 5%, given its size, but otherwise, it's a fabulous wheel. If you don't own a 33cm wheel yet, at first, it will feel strange and too big, but once you get used to it, it's amazing, especially in rally games. If you own the R9, yes, I can recommend getting it to replace the ES.
