    In 1972 I had an opportunity to listen Ustad Ameer Khan in Swami Hari Das Sangeet Sammelan, Vrindavan. He was an expert of this raag. Now again same expertise I am enjoying with Pt. Jasraj. Superb. Pranaam to Pt. Ji.

    Try not to think in terms of 'rehearsed' or 'unrehearsed'. It definitely doesn't happen as it does with western music where chords, rhythm, and leads are practiced over and over again in colb. Imagine an artist with a canvas, and a palette in his hand ready to begin - the colours form the Raag, so the artist cannot drift away from it; yet he paints his masterpiece the way he wants it to be. And it can never be recreated again that same way. Not trying to be poetic but I cannot explain it better.

    This is the beauty of the Indian Classical Music that for 55 minutes these great maestros performance are unrehearsed and all improvised on the spot. This performance can not be repeated because of the improvisation by these maestro at that particular moment.

    The way Pandit Jasraj and the accompanying artists Ustad Zakir Husain and Appa Jalgaonkarji appreciate each other's innovative contributions shows the respect by each artist for the artistic abilities of others. The Indian classical music is most enjoyable when the artists create some pattern which is fitting in the grammar of raga and tala but which is partially unexpected yet musically appealing to audience who have heard presentations of the same Raga before. In this video such places are abundant and the appreciative gestures and remarks by the artists during the performance do not appear as distractions but help to enhance the mood of both the artists and the audience.
    Wonderful presentation of Darbari Kanada!
    The freedom of improvisation allows experimenting with musical ideas that appear on the horizon of imagination to the performing artist on the spur of the moment. But to have such ideas the artists also have to rehearse a great deal to master the variations of such known ideas. But reproducing the known patterns does not give great joy the listeners get hearing a new beautifully crafted improvised idea. That the speciality of Indian classical music accordingly to me. Artists cannot create the same musical experience again because of the need for novelty . Each performance is unique.

    He snatched my breath right at the very beginning - when he does that test: to see if his voice is ready for all the three octaves…
    The way he descends from the upper sa - with such effortless and authority - and the way he comes and stands in the lower sa: as if he’s the king who administers that octave…
    No words to explain; It’s beyond majestic…

    • @anikethmunavalli2030

    well depends what you mean by improvised. indian classical music is structured in terms of improvisation. So if you did not improvise, what will you do on stage. However it is not improvised in the sense that students are taught how to improvise. however on any given day, the way the performance takes shape, on some other day, it will be totally different.

    interesting!...from what i understand of Indian raga is that it isn't 100% improvised or completely unrehearsed. if these musicians have REALLY never played together until this very moment and are not playing a partially structured classical raga then i am impressed!

      @Indianclassicalarchives Рік тому

      They have played together for years and this is a routine for them! Whatever they do is excellent and everytime it is different and wonderful. The emotion of a raaga cannot be covered in one single concert there is a lot to it!😊
