Clarifying the Cover Crop Confusion + a Site Update

  • Some folks claiming to be farmers are saying I faked the cover crop video, or they were special GIANT seeds, and/or I stole the veggies from another farmer… you can’t make this stuff up!! So I decided another tour video was needed.
    Here’s the field, the site, more cover crops up close, and an update on everything. Enjoy!!

    Must of been jealousy brother! You are the man! two years ago i took on a 0.34 acre of weeds that was in standing water til May in a v v wet ( considered poor land) in Ireland. Surrounded by chemical farms.. In the middle of one actually.. Well.. if anyone would like to take a look you will see what practicing Matts work looks like for real.. In Ireland.. This is not a plug or an attempt to gain views or subscribers but me backing up my teacher! Matt: you and your work have completely changed my life! my land is on fire! Anyone who sees it is blown away! My plants are expressing themselves fully, are vibrant, full of life... the pollinators are going crazy... the food is incredible... The health of the gardens stands out nd can be seen clearly! Visibly! I even documented 24 hrs growth it was so visible! I cant thank you enough man! The way you explain complex understanding in a way that i can understand and with such passion... Best teacher ever! Please if you get some free time (lol of course that does not exist) have a look and se what a long distance student of yours has created using your regenerative soil techniques and principles. I have recently been interviewed twice about what I am doing here. .People re blown away.. farmers cant believe it...A regenerative farmer thats quite famous here has been kind enough to help me and understand what I m doing. He knows your work and is v impressed with my regenerative soil nd growing.. Johnson Sue have recently toured Ireland it it was very successful and people are talking... When will you tour brother? I hope in the next few years! (I know you are not a good traveller) I am cutting wood and drying it with you in mind.. (it will be seasoned) Anyway.. You don't have to prove nothing to nobody Matt! Your work speaks for itself.. I just wanted to speak up in defence of the best teacher I have ever had.. A wonderful human who is changing the world one soil at a time... Please see my work here and know that you are the reason for its success. I hope to have a career and earn a living from the land here using your principles too... check out your students work chief! Please know you are greatly appreciated! I hope i make you proud.. Much love and respect. your long distance student and scholarship student: Oliver Scott Huey 😁💚🙏🌱🍄🔥☘🙌🙌🙌🙌

    Matt, done your course, it’s very comprehensive. Don’t bother to address the haters, concentrate on teaching, farming and being a family guy. You have led me down some very interesting paths including one to Hawaii and Chris Trump’s lab. Good luck with the book 👏👌🦠

    Plenty of farmers up here plant cover crops. Vetch and clover are one thing however many here ( N. Indiana and lower MI) are also planting turnips in the late season to overwinter. It works.

    Love this video Matt, so annoying that when we left Texas for East Africa you moved right in and we missed each other. I love these types of videos, it would be really great to mention what parts of your book etc you utilized to do things. Say, we chop and dropped the weed seeds, broadcasted cover crops, applied compost tea to the area, are using perennial pathways next to our food forest in development etc. Just so we can have an idea of what exactly went into this. I totally believe this because I had 2 foot long daikon growing in basically crushed rock in the first season, I applied compost tea every week, and the top three inches were compost. . . and I bought that from a local place, not tested or anything, I just did the best I could.

    You should make a portion of land where you plant crops on the raised beds and not water it directly to plants but just moisturize it while watering the side channel besides raised beds. That will help a lot.

    Hi Matt,
    I am in the Landes de Gascogne in France and here too it is very sandy soil (over 90% sand).
    I suggest you do a test for your soil of a method that I use here with success. I incorporate into the soil a mixture of 15 cm of brf (even shredded wood) and 15 cm of compost. I then inoculate this mixture with compost tea, whether oxygenated or not (I also used fermented forest litter). I have an incredible result, a soil with a beautiful structure, very good water retention and a very active life.

    Haters going to hate.
    First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
    And what is so wonderful about this winning is, if we ( this collection of ethical processes and mindsets) win, then it is a victory for life, all life

    Weeds are free cover crops to some extent from my point of view. You ever heard of soaking weeds in water and then watering the ground with the extract to get rid of the particular weed?

    Matt i saw 7 acreas of grazing land in England for sale, what could i do with it to make the most money? I was thinking 1/4 alfalfa cover crop, 1/4 wheat for the hay and protein then compost thoses two a few times a year. Then grow veg on 1/4 of the land. Maybe have some fruit trees and and big pond on the other 1/4. What u think?

    Have you considered scattering sugar on the soil to speed up food abundance for biology as root exudates develop in cover crops?

    • @B._Smith
      @B._Smith Рік тому +1

      He has talked about simple sugars over feeding and strengthening the bad bugs but developing polysaccharide exudates helps encourage the good bugs bacteria and fungus in the food web.

    • @David-kd5mf
      @David-kd5mf Рік тому +1

      @B._Smith hmm, ok that's a possibility I guess. I had a patch of hard clay ground that wasn't growing much and after sprinkling sugar down it started doing much better with growing plants.

    HAHAH! wow, joke is on the haters -- plants will *always* grow better, as long as the soil is good, if sown from seed versus transplanted; just shows how little they know... maybe they were joking? younger generations can be quite informally facetious/sarcastic in their communication.
