Jason is back and coming for you in three dimensions! Friday the 13th Part 3 was one of the landmark movies in the 3D craze of the 80s. Has time been kind to this sequel or does it fail in every dimension?

one reason why I love this film is because of the atmosphere. it might be my favorite in the whole series.
@@111highgh damn. you are proof......Trump does creep YT.
@@111highgh Look it's everyone on the internet. Can't understand that other people have different opinions and gets mad that they have different opinions.
I'm a huge fan of the final girl subplot. She wasn't raped, it wasn't a dream. She's lived through an encounter with Jason, that is all. Imagine finding all your friends butchered and that guy was the one who did it? Rare bit of scary in the whole franchise.
While not the best installment in the franchise, Richard Brooker was the best Jason. May he RIP.
Richard was the only good thing about that trash movie lmao..Larry Zerner as Shelly was pretty good as well.
@@CraigTodd924 Richard Brooker is the best Jason ever
I agree better than hodder imo
He’s my 2nd favorite behind Ted White! Love Richard Brooker’s Jason!
I JUST watched this for the first time. I found the 3-D dvd for $3, and couldn’t resist. I’m a huge horror fan and have been for many years, but the Friday franchise never interested me much. I’m finally giving it a try. I liked this one. I am a big 3-D fan and I totally love the gimmicks in this one. Then there’s Shelly...-sigh- Well, love or hate the guy, every Jason fan owes him a huge thanks for bringing the hockey mask into the franchise.
The funny thing is that Larry Zerner, the guy that played Shelly was probably the best natural actor of the bunch.
Shelly sucks
@@CraigTodd924that’s only because he played himself
Man I love the connecting thread throughout these reviews. Hopefully me and CP will get there soon haha!!! "Responding his Leeway" HAHAHA
Haha I've been having a blast with these man. Got the intros planned through to part 6 and they're gonna be awesome.
I ain't gay, not that it matters, but I fuckin love both you guys
This intro is one of the funniest ones I've seen & I've seen this video 3 times now.
Jason's face when takes off the mask in the barn at the end used to scare me so much as a kid lol.. Definitely B-Movie though, but really fun.
Bro I legit freaked out as a kid, it still gives me goosebumps, that was Jason's best face hands down it's way scarier than that zombie look they went for, he looked horrible in 4 and 7 just looked cool, 8 was retarded IDK 3 is one of my favorite movies in the franchise
@Blaze Mordecai Does he always brag about the time in his hockey career where he stabbed someone with his skate? Your friend was Happy Gilmore.
R.I.P Richard Brooker
My favorite Jason hands down.....cannot stand Kane Hodder..
😔😰
Ted white,Richard Brooker, Kane hodder, and Derek myres are my favorites
Joe Peters I like Kane a lot but he is overrated
@@Cam_0823
And Gloria Charles (Fox) and Steve Susskind (Harold).
Part 3 is very close to my heart❤️☠️👌
Part 3 is my favorite Jason film. 3D aside..its just a great slasher flick.
this one and Part 1 are my favorites. the others? and the remake? well.....and the remake IMPO is just BAD. the stupidest characters...but I guess they had to make them idiots or we wouldn't have had a film.
@@JohnBlack2345 What about Part 2?
@@Nestalgba92023 I dig Part 2 alot. for me, it didn't quite have the atmosphere as the other two, but love the Final Girl. she's my all-time fave.
I actually thought watching it in 3D was better it's a different experience
this is one of the worst movies ever
Totally agree on Shelly, he's actually my favorite character in the movie.
Matt W. Mine to well besides Jason of course
Where’s drumdum
People only love Shelly cuz he brings the mask. Other than that he kinda sucks.
I agree. He’s one of my favorite characters of the franchise. I get that he’s annoying, but I’ve known people like him, and so I feel sorry for him for trying so hard to be liked when all he has to do to be liked is to stop trying.
Same. There was a guy at my school like Shelly, who did stupid (and often annoying) stuff to try and be more popular with everyone.
Did you notice that Rick, Chris's boyfriend who gets his eye popped out was wearing a sweater like Pamela Voorhees's Cody? I always joke that Jason kills him because he thought he stole his mother's sweater.
Lol i never thought of that.
Xehanort10. Well spotted. Never coped that.
Yeah I noticed that too. I notice Freddy dying exactly like mrs voorhees in Freddy vs Jason too
There’s always a ton of negative to point out about this part. But there is no denying that awesome 80’s tastic intro were treated too.
Awesome review man, I loved Shelly, he's so relatable to the people who don't fit in and try to get people to like him for his sense of humor and not judge him on his looks. Richard Brooker is a great Jason. I can't wait to see your review of mine and CP's favorite...part 6 :)
Chris is an excellent final girl. She's my favorite actually and this is my favorite movie in the franchise. To me she plays being terrified the best. And that barn is scary as hell. It might not be a perfect movie, but I still like it :)
One of the best horror channels
HorrorContentDaily iFunny ?do ypu have an Ifunny channel? Also another great horror channel is Dead Meat is great check it out
Pretty underrated too
It's actually the best and most underrated channel. Cody is the best in reviewing these movies
15:36 The whole reason Jason's killing in 3 is because he went to rest in the barn to recover from the shoulder wound Ginny gave him in Part 2 but people keep coming in and disturbing him.
Gotta love Richard Brooker’s Jason
One of the best Jason’s
Great review Cody, this is one of my favourite Friday movies because this film got me laid, I watched it with my girlfriend who didn't like horror & it freaked her out & asked me to stay the night, how could I refuse lol.
Jason is bad ass in this, the spear gun kill my favourite & have you noticed 3 characters from this film actually feature in the game.
Great content buddy & hilariously entertaining, I just reviewed the entire franchise on my Google+ page & binged watched the movies before review so I appreciate your commitment in reviewing this long running franchise.
i thought my phone was vibrating when you called that guy😂...
I love what's you said about Barn and your right about the barn too it's crazy but it's is what it is and Jason's great in this movie
R.I.P Richard Brooker
I'm actually amazed you didn't point out the hilariously bad title scene music. I expect to see Jason come out and start dancing.
Hilariously bad? You mean hilariously AWESOME!
Shelly is a stand out character imo
He was. I totally agree. A lot of personality he brought to the film
Thank god he was in it. He’s the only character that isn’t boring.
Wasn't it Shelly that provided the hockey mask?
For the longest time this was my favorite. I love how Jason "smiled" too. haha! I'd have to say my top three favs are 4,3 and 6
3D after it was cool...and before it was cool. I loved this one.
The amazing Richard Brooker has an incredible life story- think he was a stuntman or a actually in a circus,he was beloved as a person
I totally agree with all ur reviews that u have done I've watched most of them
I love Friday the 13th part 3. Dana Kimmel is my favorite final girl and Richard Brooker is my favorite Jason
Hay Cody... Where does part 4 start off?
THE MOTHERFUCKING BARN!
Kain VS Predator in the barn hahaha

Friday the 13th III is the Friday movie that holds a special place in my heart. I grew up with the Friday movies and part III is the one I watched most. I can't tell you how many times I rented this (back in the good ol' VHS video store days). I never knew why I loved it so much as a kid. I'm so glad you gave props to Richard Brooker as Jason Vorhees. He is my favorite "Jason". All the various subtleties in his movements, his big hulking presence, his overall creepiness. Brooker was amazing as Jason, head and shoulders above Kane Hodder. I suppose another reason I loved it so much is because like you said, it has just such a different tone to it. They went for something different and not just a carbon copy of the previous two and it worked for me. Ahh, good ol' Shelley. I was always one of the rare fans who loved that character. If he would have been in any other Friday movie, no. But he fit perfectly into this tonally different sequel. Remember, we'll always have Shelley to thank for the hockey mask haha. ✌
The best explanation for the difference between the two Jason faces in part 2 and 3 is the former was just a hallucination of Ginny's, and that he always looked like part 3 Jason under that hood.
Had Chris even heard about Pamela? Or seen a picture of her? If not, how does she have a dream about her?
This one used to be a fave when I was younger but for some reason it didnt hold up well for me. I still like it tho! I do like like how the bluray and dvd of this comes with a couple pair of 3D glasses and its def cool to watch at home like that!
I like the Shelley character. He's hilarious.
Ah shit finally another Friday video! I wait ever second of every day to see each of these reviewed till that kickass ranking video at the end
All this is true but I still love the intro theme,as it is spooky and fun to listen to/play on HALLOWEEN.
I'm a gamer and have a passion for movies too, so I like your channel. You really know how to analyze movies and break them down for your reviews. I subscribed bro.
15:15 had me laughing so much
Love your content
I definitely agree with your opinion on Richard Brooker. Ted White is my personal favorite, but Brooker is definitely up there. I thought Mears did a good job as Jason as well, but I really didn't like the remake itself.
Yup. Ted White and Derek Mears are the best imo, but for different reasons. If and when rhey do another Friday reboot, they should really bring Ted White back because I think his Jason would really benefit from a higher budget and I would like to see how his Jason would be given more to do in a modern Jason movie.
"Human" Jasons:
1. Ted White
2. Richard Brooker
3. Derek Mears
4. (The Jason By Committee from Part 2)
4 (tie). Tom Morga
"Undead/Zombie" Jasons:
1. Kane Hodder (only because he put the mask on four times)
2. C.J. Graham (a very, very close second place.)
3. Ken Kirzinger (my least favorite Jason, period)
It was a great fun movie, and Richard Brooker will sorely be missed
This is the second Friday the 13th film I ever saw, after Jason X, so it was probably 2002-03, before Freddy vs Jason came out though.
It was on VHS, and it freaked me the fuck out. Close to my heart, and was my definitely favorite for a LONG time, great film.
Probably in my top 5.
The reason we don't see Shelly's kill is because we're supposed to think it's one of his practical jokes. It's actually a smart move, honestly.
I love this movie and i love part 4 and part 6 more and awesome review
"The Lee Way. Follow The Lee Way!"
Fun review, though my view is a bit more positive. You're right that it's one of those so bad it's good movies, but I always enjoy it especially at night when it's on. When I was in high school it was one of those movies that would always be on AMC at midnight, and I'd always watch it during a school night lol. To me it's just a lot of dumb fun with a good Jason.
Final Chapter is my favorite though :)
I used to have a 3D DVD copy of this one. When I tried to watch the 3D version with the included red & blue glasses it was all... doubled. Like it wasn't rendered properly or something. I'd much rather just watch it in 2D and laugh at the obvious 3D gags.
Man you’re busting these out almost to my favorites 4 and 5. 4 being the best and 5 being one of the best comedies ever.
Yeah man cranking em out. I actually enjoy 5 quite a bit as a horror comedy.
Richard Brooker was always my favorite Jason and very underrated R.I.P
He’s one of my favorites
Part 3 is my favorite 'cause Jason gets his iconic hockey mask.
Jason probably ate Paul from Part 2 or stumbled upon the orbs from "Altered Beast,' which would explain why he is twice his previous size.
Lots of summer camps have an old barn that was converted to some other use. At the camp I went to, the arts & crafts building was called the “art barn.”
2003: AFI's 100 Years...100 Heroes & Villains:
Jason Voorhees - Nominated Villain
Vegeta Solo. AND HIS POWERLEVELS OVER 9000!!!
Great review as always and 🔥 thumbnails. 👌
I re-watched this one recently and I enjoyed it more this time around. I actually think that it's paced well and the characters were watchable enough.
A lot of people do not realize this but Tracy Savage, after this movie became a very important anchorwoman. She covered the OJ Simpson trial and actually testified on the witness stand due to the evidence she had collected
My Favorite in the Franchise hands down it started slowly coming off the rails after this one Jason Lives was good tho
I'd say 4 is a better movie overall but this one is my favourite too. It used to terrify me and while it doesn't now I still think it's the scariest Friday the 13th.
I agree with everything you said in this review, and they finally released 3D on Blu-ray and it's awesome. 3D nowadays pales in comparison actually. If you have access to a 3D TV, definitely check it out. The other 3D movies from that era are awful and this one is actually a good movie. love your reviews!
+Cody Leach - This is another one of the movies where our opinions differ slightly. Again, I think it might simply be a generational thing, as I am older than you and grew up with these movies.
Your opinion that this movie had"some of the worst characters in the series" in particular. I would actually argue that the remake had far worse characters. At least it makes sense that these people would be spending a weekend together at the lake. Well . . . most of them anyway.
Chris's family owns the cabin. Rick is her boyfriend. Debbie is her best friend. Andy is Debbie's boyfriend. Shelly is Andy's roommate. Andy asked Chris and Debbie to set Shelly up on a blind date, so they invited their friend Vera. Honestly, the only two that don't fit in with the narrative is Chuck and Chilli. Those two seem to be only there to fill the"Stoner Dynamic".
Once again I find the characters to be likeable, and relatable. I sympathize with Shelly a great deal, as I was always socially awkward with women and had self esteem issues. And much like Shelly, I also had friends who were much cooler than I was. So the dynamic of a dorky overweight guy hanging out with people much cooler and prettier than he is is actually somewhat believable. Far more believable than anyone wanting to hang out with an asshole like Trent in the remake anyways.
Richard Brooker is one of my all time favorite Jason's. He was powerful and imposing, while at the same time very quick and agile. Very scary. And his make-up for when he had his mask off was excellent.
The 3D shots don't bother me that much, but that might be because I don't watch it in BluRay Hi-Def. I have the deluxe edition on DVD with the 3D glasses. For me that's good enough.
I love how they play the first Friday theme during the "rape" dream. lol
part 5 also has a dream sequence ending have fun with that
The way you got more aggressive every time you said "fucking barn!" throughout the video is hilarious to me
Well as I Friday fan, I really unfortunately agree with a heck of a lot of your gripes here. It has a certain "value" but those in the Friday brethren refuse to accept that this movie is just 2nd level F13 AT BEST. Oh and great review,
(tapered off after the first few minutes for me however)
Haha I bet it did
Hi Cody, big fan of you and your channel especially the opening to the videos, I have a question, do they use the score for Psycho in the Friday the 13th films?
Your intro's are hilarious dude. You gonna make it all the way to space with Jason X? i think this is the best Friday the 13th in the franchise. or 6. This is one of the few of these movies that actually scared me when i was a kid. Richard Brooker is by far the best Jason. i like how his shoulders and build looks slightly deformed in this film. i like when he takes his mask off he is scary. and he smiles. gave me the creeps (for once for Jason). i think Dana Kimmell is the best final girl in the franchise she is the most badass and also the hottest. i like the backstory between her and Jason. And we all knew a shelley growing up. So i found him to be realistic. But totally agree on wanting to see him getting killed. And agree with the dumb dream ending sequence. End the film! lol i really love Harry Manfredini's score as well this is a good Jason film for once.
Where it all goes down at .....the barn.
The unmasked Jason in part 2 was most likely a dream sequence.
This is my second favourite Friday movie after part 2 . Chris I thought was too over the top as a final girl but she is still one of the best final girls of the series. I wish we could have had the alternate ending that they originally filmed but ended up not using . Top review Cody. Can’t wait for part 6 + 7 as they are the best other Friday movies
I believe the original ending, which they had in mind for part 3 was with Chris Higgins being decapitated by Jason. That would be so much better than the dream sequence.
Might be a little too depressing
Shelley is literally the definition of a “nice guy” who is awful in nearly every way, and then inexplicably acts entitled to being liked. Then when the girl’s not into it he straight up calls her a bitch. I hate Shelley with every fiber of my being and my only regret in this film is that he was killed off screen.
Idk if he was purposely meant to be an asshole, but if he was a notable death would've been satisfying lmao
I like Shelley.
Considering its the closest thing to having a character in this series
Agreed
Other characters have also come close to having actual personalities though.
I can't decide whether I like 3 or 4 better. I love part 3 because of Richard Brooker as Jason, the kills, the characters (especially Shelly), the atmosphere, the awesome horror-disco theme (no sarcasm), and especially the final showdown with the scary as hell Jason look. It's definitely one of my favorite slasher flicks!
This movie is my favorite Friday and Jason and I like the cheesey 3D gimic
I couldn’t figure out why I remembered loving this movie as a kid. It was my favorite Friday the 13th movie back then. I’m pretty sure I just had a massive crush on Chris. Definitely the prettiest final girl in any slasher movie I’ve seen.
They released the 3D version on DVD. I've got it. 3D is still bad.
My favorite of the franchise!! I love this movie!! I'm loving these reviews and the intros with the Lee and CP story. Keep up the great reviews! The Fucking ice cream truck though 😂😂😂 So glad I'm on killer flicks so I can enjoy that joke even more
*In the barn*
Best Friday. Best Jason.
Totally agree
I thought Brooker did a amazing job!!!
The oddest part of this is nobody knows it’s Jason attacking/killing them. Outside of showing end of pt 2 Jason name is never mentioned
They have a Blu-Ray 3D version of this movie.
Wondering what your thoughts were? I couldn't agree more about the "Fuck Continuity" especially when Kris says what happened to me at the lake, happened a long time ago.
hey dude I loved your videos on the childs play franchise, your channel deserves so much more sub's. thanks for another great video
Thanks a lot man
+Cody Leach if you have time I'm just wondering if you've heard about how Don is making a child's play series following cult, what do you think it will be like?
As I usually offer, I have the scripts for half of the Friday films if you want them, part 3 included. The draft I have is actually entitled Crystal Japan, and doesn't contain the ending, I guess because they were trying to keep it a secret from the actors. It cuts off right where the hippie woman gets killed with the fire poker. I also have parts 1, 2, 6 (which has Jason's father in the ending), 8, 9, and 10, as well as Freddy vs. Jason, the reboot, and a couple different drafts of the part 13 that never came out.
+ Cody Leach now THIS is the Jason we're talkin' about: hulking, menacing and intimidating...well, Kane Hodder was a little more intimidating, honestly😁
ihatefacebook31184 But Hodder's Jason couldn't run.
Hodder is Jason n the franchise 4 worst films. Overrated but a cool guy who does love the character. He is better than Kerzinger but White Mears Graham and Brooker are all vastly superior IMHO
@@TheSBleeder but he still manages to catch up to his victims somehow and as far as the look of Jason, part 7 is my favorite look and so is Richard Brooker's Jason
@@glyn420 idk about white but the other 3 for sure
My favorite of the series.
When he hoists himself up and reveals his face to chris and her reaction. Gives me chills just thinking a out it.
I am a huge fan of 1-4. The music was at it's prime and most intense.
My childhood.
Jason must have jacked up on steroids with the following hours of part 2. 😂😂
I thought Shelly was a fan favorite?
The brighter look may actually be because of the 3D. It makes the image darker and downgrades the quality, so you have to compensate for it when shooting. That's actually why the blood in Saw 7 was bright Pink.
It's stupid and they could easily have corrected it for the 2D version, but it's that way because in 3D, it will look darker.
part 4 is next cody you know the best Friday the 13th movie
Kung Jin 6 is better tho
@@hillhouseproductions no part 4 is better
ayden Baldwin Than 6? Hell no.
@@hillhouseproductions better kills and a better jason and better characters
ayden Baldwin Better kills? It has great kills, but it also had a lame offscreen kill. All of Part 6’s kills are on screen.
Looking back, I honestly don't remember it taking THAT long to get on with it. The pacing was really uneven for a slasher film.
This was actually the first Friday the 13th movie that I ever saw. Can't say it got me to interested in the rest of the franchise. It might have its charm to those who grew up with it, but the slow pacing and lack of suspense or atmosphere really hurts this one for me.
I’m living for these openings lately! Even as a kind of fair weather fan of the F13 movies, I agree this one is just too fun to not like.. Shelly is great, and if they didn’t ruin Chris in the last segment of taking her back to the hospital she’d be awesome too.... Booker is probably my 3rd favorite Jason behind Ted then Mears.... great review, can’t wait to see what you’ve got for 4
Watch out cody! Jason's behind you! Oh no, he has airpods in, he can't hear us!
1. Ted White, Part IV
2. Derek Mears, Remake
3. CJ Graham, Part VI
4. Kane Hodder, Part VII, VIII, IX, X
5. Richard Brooker, Part III
6. Steve Dash/Warrington Gillette, Part II
7. Ken Kerzinger, FvJ
No offense to Ken kirzinger but he has got to be the worst versions of Jason but it's not his fault I blame Ronnie Yu for that b*******
I love this movie. definitely in my top 10 in the franchise!!!
I love it too!
Theres only 12 movies lmao
I'll give you all of my support
Most people Love Shelly and wish he was the one that survived. No idea why you would want him to have the worst death ever because he was a prankster. He was hands down the best character in the movie. Edit: And he isn't really pulling the mask up to smile at her in the barn either. The rope was around his neck and he had to take the mask off just to take the rope off. Though I do like the idea of him fucking with them more. When he shoots Vera with the spear gun the way he throws it down and turns in walks away is more of the "yeah I did that come at me" attitude you were talking about. At least in my eyes :3.
Great Work! This was Awesome as ALWAYS 👍👍👍🍻🍻
Also, I'm kind of thinking that at the end of part 2, it wasn't a dream ending. I think Jason really did burst through the window, and maybe Jinny fainted, and Paul tried to fight off Jason, got killed, and Jason dragged him back to the death shack. That's a possibility. I'm sure I thought the ambulance guys said "he's alright, we got him" when Jinny asked where Paul was, but they don't seem to.
100% agree with everything you said about this movie. The constant dream sequences are annoying. Jason being bald in this movie. And that most of the movie takes place in a damn barn. Definitely a guilty pleasure movie but in my opinion still a must own if your a fan of the franchise. Great reviews Cody, your one of the my favorite movie reviewers! Would you ever wanna do like a top 5 movies of a certain actor or a best/worst? Lastly, any more monthly blu-ray hauls? Keep up the great work!
Shells death is kind of the point since he always joking around that it sets up that this time he's screwing around Again. Classic boy who cried wolf situation
where can I find that awesome background seen during the review?, that shit looks dope as hell
my favorite character was the Tommy Chung impersonator
lol so true
Richard Brooker’s portrayal of Jason set the blueprint for the rest to follow.
Great video, though on the topic of slasher movies do you think a slasher cinematic universe could work and if so what are your thoughts on it?
I don't think so. They are all owned by different studios so it'd never happen anyway.
I think they did the Shelly kill off-screen to give the audience the same "you're not fooling me again, oh no he's really dead" moment as the characters. Also, why do you want to see poor, down-on-his-luck Shelly suffer so bad?
