- This video is designed to show just one way you can secure a kayak to a roof rack.
You will need two cross bars that go across your car and also a pair of straps. We use 3 metre ratchet straps in this kayak video.
When you purchase a kayak at Weekend Warrior Outdoors we are happy to show you at the shop hot to secure the kayak.

You forgot the last and most important step. You have to shake it and clearly say out loud “that’s not going anywhere”
he seems British, they don't say that, its an American cliche more or less
@@whitbyretreat145 ozzie not brit.
i do that every time
Sounds like that’s asking for trouble
"right-o, thats not bouta leave"
Currently watching this in the parking lot before buying my kayak so I know how to get it home 😂
Bro, me too. The wife has no clue 🤣
Me too! Literally about to go to a guys house to buy it off him ha!
Wise
SAME!
Yup that's me right now lmao
I came here to learn how to strap down a kayak. I'm leaving with the knowledge that putting a twist in the strap will stop it from humming. Mind blown.
I kayak so much but every first time for the season I pull this video up. You are the Grandmaster Ninja of tie downs.
Great Video! I always make sure to tie off the extra above the buckle so that if the buckle fails, its still held by a rope. Well Done!
Great for a load that may fall by gravity, not gonna help much for one that slips through the loop from wind bruh.
Didn’t even need to ratchet it for tightness, I would’ve thought it needed to be a lot tighter! Nice and simple.
This video literally saved my life! I went out to the water and my Yak did not move! Also it was super quick and easy to do!
I know how to fix cars motorcycles and have an engineering degree. But it never crossed my mind to tie it like this. Thank you !!
I would also tie the front and end of the kayak to the front and rear towing points respectively. This is to counter act that at speed there is potential for the kayak to act as a wing and try to rise up. I've heard of bolts on footings shearing off!
Literally have never done this, love when people insist on doing this though. have fun wasting time.
Straight to the point. A+ mate
Thanks for the lovely simple explanation, no messing around 👍 👏 👌 😀 ciao Giuseppe
So simple & easy, thank you!
shouldn't i place it upside down to prevent the wind drag?
You just made my life easier, thank you!!
Simple and quick! Thank you.
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.
Thanks for the tip... I'm new to kayaking and just purchased my 1st kayak and didn't know how to strap it down correctly when hauling it home it kept shifting side to side
Thank You. Hi from Malta 🇲🇹
Excellent, nice and clear, thank you
Thank you! Very simple
Thank you for this!!
Thank you so much, made it so easy 😊
Thanks for this video, saved my marriage lol. 😊
Appreciate you taking the time friend. Thanks for the advice.
just the video I was looking for thank you!
The notes provided by my straps previous to you showing to twist them nearly blew out my ear drums. Thank you
Thanks a lot ! Made my life easier :)
Fast and easy !!!
Thank You!!!
Easy enough! Thanks!
What type/brand are those straps you are using?
Thank you so much! 🙌🏽
Can this tie withstand moderate winds 15 knots going about 100 km on freeway
Im going to try this and hopefully ditch my J hooks :)
J hooks are an absolute waste. We got rid of ours. I found they complicated the entire mounting process. Also they did not feel secure as the way he shows in this video.
@@joq702 yes. Susceptible to drag and crosswinds
But will it survive “hypothetically” doing 130km/h?
Is there pros and cons in having the kayak facing down?
great simple vid 👍 are they just plain old straps off ebay ?
Wait… you don’t even need a kayak rack attachment? 🤯
I did this but just curious what keeps kayak from not moving forward or back when driving on highway? Can it slide out under the straps?
I agree. I wouldn’t feel comfortable like this unless I was driving around the corner
Most kayaks aren't dead straight, strapped down tight it's impossible for mine to come off because of how it sits on the roof rack. For motorway driving I sometimes double up on the straps but I've been strapping yaks to my car for a while and not once has one move so much as an inch!
If you not an idiot and secure them properly it wont. Or you could waste time and tie the front and back down like morons suggest
I think because it's thicker in the middle
Thanks!
my old suv the roof racks were vertical and had slots along the side . My new suv one has cross bars ..I'm like whats the best way to fasten ? Thanks il go with this way
thanks
Would this also work on just anything on the roof if it’s long??
Yeah...like a Grandma or something? Asking for a friend
Thank you!!!
What kind of strap tie down do you use? Thanks for your time.
How fast can you drive with a kayak on the roof?
As fast as you want as long as it’s secured properly
It’s all up to u. I drift with it sometimes
Thank you.
I want to buy myself a Kayak, i have a roof rack and ratchet straps. Is this safe? Is there anything else i should know? This seem oddly easy
Protect your kayak from the rails with a pair of cheap foam blocks
Anyone know what kind of tie downs those are? I like to buy that kind please let me know 🙏🏽
Where is the bow line?
'Thanks!
And this is safe at 80mph?
looks like 2.5m strap would be just enough
Whats that in Football Fields per Cheesburger Units?
People. Please Don’t throw ur straps over the top of ur car. ESPECIALLY If u have a sunroof. 😂
i open mine when i strap things on, no chance to damage then.
😁
Can't hear you
World's dumbest question - what about the paddle?
put it in the car
Yeah I’m definitely getting robbed if I do this, all you need is something sharp to cut it
Most people don’t just drive around with it on the roof. Typically they do this when they’re planning on hitting the river or lake.
I p
Lock mine with a long wire to the locked on roof bars
Sure you dont want to add those stupid unnessary ropes to the front and back.
Wrong....the hull can not be facing down...it may damage
Or do you and everyone else will do how they feel comfortable lol
Thanks mate
You just made my life easier, thank you!!
