Thank you for the tutorial. I purchased the flex cable together with the aperture unit to make it easier to replace. Unfortunately, its not working as it supposed to. The aperture doesn't move between f2.8 and f4 when selected f3.2 and f3.5 there is no change. However the biggest problem is when taking a picture the aperture opens up to f2.8, even when higher f stop is selected. E.g when I select f5.6 the aperture closes to f5.6 but when I press shutter it opens to 2.8 and goes back to f5.6 resulting in overexposed picture. I guess the unit I bought is broken?
My guess would be that the aperture unit is broken. Similar problem has happened to me with a Canon 17-85mm lens aperture, and in that case the aperture was faulty.
@@CamerasLensesEtc Thank you. I guess I will have to solder the cable to the original aperture unit. It wasn't worth it ordering the cable and aperture together.
@@juliankrakow That is what I would recommend (replace only the cable), and if that is not possible, then I would order a genuine aperture unit with the cable.
Far best videos about replacing the flex cable. If you would live nearby, I'll bring my lens for repair to you. I have the same problem. Thank you for videos.

Hello my friend thank you for the video . I saw the entire video but still not sure about what could be my problem . So I bought this lense for cheap it dropped and some parts where damage as the metal ring and the first glass . I change them and it is working but the first glass dont hold on place . If I move it upside down it drops some centimeter. Thank you .
I managed to do everything you did. Good and bad…Before the AF would sometimes fail to focus or move at all but after changing the aperture flex cable, the AF works fine… but the aperture problem still remains, let it be at a less frequent occurrence. Anything other than 2.8, it may work for some photos but then it stops working and Error 1 appears. Not sure what’s up… one time I tried to use it while broken (before fix) for video but then the live view would turn extremely dark, almost as if it when to f16… not sure if that means anything. Actually know that I think of it one of the prongs came off with the old flex cables. I put it back in but I wonder if that’s the issues. So like a partial contact. Do you have any idea the issue? Or is it the above issue and I need to buy the whole unit…
Check if the IS is working perfectly. The IS unit can cause aperture problems (I know, it is strange). If the IS unit is broken, then the aperture of the lens closes randomly when you push the DOF button, and doesn't open up completely after you release the DOF button. If that is what happening to your lens, then most likely the problem is with the IS. You might try to change the aperture cable again to make sure that it is working perfectly.
I don't know if there is alternative. You might have t just assemble the lens without the grease... it is more difficult to keep those three sliders in place, but try it.
CamerasLensesEtc thanks I watched the videos and will update you i might do it during the next week. I ordered the flex cable with the last glass element together to avoid the soldering part. Once again thanks for the very quick response
Good night, my lens is working all right, the diaphragm is not working, but there is no camera error and if I use it during the day, I can. is it this cable that is bad or is it the diaphragm?
So the symptom of the problem is that the image is too bright when you set small aperture in the camera? I would first make sure if the problem is with the aperture, you can use the DOF button to test the lens.

@@CamerasLensesEtc sounds good thanks
Thanks for the videos, repaired mine twice. The first repair lasted about 12 months. Not sure why it failed the second time?
Interesting... I changed many cables and they last for very long time, for many years.
Very helpful thank you. If I can’t find lens grease. Is there an alternative?
If I order through eBay it will take 6 or 8 weeks
Thanks

Hi i follow your video but. The focus are not working even if it's connected like on the video.how can I fix this issue?
I already fix the issue of my lens. Thanks on this video I already remove the fungus on my lens.
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad my video has helped you.
Please make a video for how to fix the 17-55 f / 2.8 IS USM lens. Auto Focus cannot focus when shooting
Thanks Brother!!
Can you explain in detail what is the problem with the AF?
@@CamerasLensesEtc I have the same problem I think, the auto focus is stuttering, continously searching for focus but never taking picture.
Clean the focus strip inside the USM motor. I have a video when I did it on a 17-85mm.
Perfect video! I've just repaired mine. Took ca 4 hours. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Pretty sure I did everything like you did and i have 4 screws left over lol. But it looks like it is working lol
Strange :) . Maybe those are the screws from the top of the USM motor, or the cover ring on that.
