Awesome video!!!!!! all the lazy creators just made a bank 2 video because its easier. you got down and dirty and made a stellar vid! hell yeah brother!
Wow man. Your rims are in such better shape than mine, The northeast is brutal with the salt. Thanks for this video. I’ve only found one other good one for doing Bank 1, and he was on a mechanics lift. I’m a driveway mechanic, and will be using jacks and ramps like you. I appreciate the content. I needed a video like this showing it done in a driveway. Thanks you very much. Liked and subbed!
Thank you for this video and the details that you cover. My wife’s converter on her explorer needs replacing and this will save me a lot of money. Thanks again. 👍👍
This was very helpful, i am a mechanic and i am preparing to replace both of my catalytic converters in my 2014 Ford Explorer Limited Awd , so i have to work on removing the exhaust shield and everything by feel and by doing my best to remove everything and replace it while working around the driveshaft which i don't want to remove. The front catalytic converter is going to be a walk in the park compared to the rear.
@@Ajstacklebox My hands arre not too big thankfully, i am planning to replace all of the oxygen sensors with the new catalytic converters , i'm going to be driving from Massachusetts to Florida so i really don't want any issues cropping up. I am planning to use my oxygen/acetylene torch setup that i bought the propane torch tips and i'm going to tryto heat all of the bolts up that i possibly can. Thanks again for the awesome video!
I 2nd that! A humble mechanic showing his mistakes and how to try to avoid them. That shows your true character sir. Just liked and subscribed. I have the 2015 explorer sport AWD 3.5L ecoboost. This should be a fun one. Thanks again for the great detailed video. Better late than never.
Great video I’m gonna be doing the job this weekend. You make it look easy. I’m thinking I’m I have a hell of time getting that heat cover off I got big hands. Thanks for the video is awesome.
Very helpful as you covered a great detailed explanation. I believe this was a 2wd Explorer and have to remove the PTU on my 4X4 2017 explorer so hopefully enough room to remove on the 4X4.
Excellent video, I got a 2013 Taurus AWD 3.5 I'm about to tackle, I heard I have to remove the drive shaft on mine due to the lack of space but for $1,000 labor they charging me I'm doing it myself,👍
doing this right now on the police interceptor. factory manual wants me to remove the front axle shaft to get the cat out the bottom, but after watching this I think it might be easier to pull the rear shaft to go out the way he did in this video. The fwd version looks pretty straight forward without the driveshaft running down that tunnel!
After all was said and done I did have to go out the side, so removing the RH wheel and long axle for the AWD. I tried out the tunnel, even lowered the subframe a bit but it was just to tight. Was worth the shot to try though! The PTU was just too big.
Might have to go to a muffler shop to replace that or just get someone to weld back right so it don’t rattle. If there’s no hole in the muffler it shouldn’t be that much money
I was able to loose all six bolts on the rear(bank1) catalytic converter from 2014 Ford Police Interceptor 3.7L as instructed in this video. However, I can not wiggle out the cat from the bottom, or from the heat shield side. Do I need to remove more parts on the right wheel side to give room? Thanks!
Thanks anyway! I found the 3.7L explorer has a shaft behind the PTU box, so I can not wiggle the rear cat out through the dome space under the heat shield. May need to 1)remove the shaft, or 2)remove axle of the front passenger side, or 3)jack and pull forward the engine.
Best video ever! At first I ignored this video and watched some o2 sensor changed. And not really helpful with my problem p0420 catalysts system efficiency below threshold ( bank 1) But after I watched this video! I feel hopeful that I can do this. I have 2012 ford explorer xlt. Just wondering if they have same parts as 2014? More power on this guy
Great video, man! PSA: Get rid of that jack if it's from Harbor Freight Tools. It gave out on me while I was placing jack stands underneath the car. Also the Rhino Ramps are good but if it's over 87F they will also give out.
Mine is a 4x4 I didn't have to remove the ptu but I did have to disconnect the rear drive shaft and pull the hub off the ptu then trim the heat shield bolts but it can be done
It wasn't the hardest. But I did use a two arm puller to get the hub off. Also I had to trip the bolts that hold on the heat shield. All together the whole job took me about 4 hours
@@graemegibbons8408 how about disconnecting the driveshaft, then lowering the engine 2 inches (by releasing the top engine mounts nuts, and removing the lower swing mount)? in fact both Haynes and Chilton recommend to remove the lowest swing mount, and i assume the reason is to be able to push the engine forward too. what do you think?
Nice, you're lucky. No PTU or drive shaft in the way. I have to remove the upper plenum and backside valve cover on my 14 taurus to gain access to the bolts.
Just the check engine. If you have performance issues drive it until you get another code. If you change the cat out and the car is performing bad it could just ruin your new cat. Make sure all cylinders are firing good
@Hoodsaintfishing Great video. I've watched it a few times now. I came back to see if there was any input on aftermarket cats. A mechanic said only use OEM, that it's mentioned in the book. OEM are pricey, might be time to trade it in.
Great video. I’m getting ready to do both of mine which I just find hard to believe but.. alas. Looks a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. iOS bank 2 easier? Do you know? Thanks! Gained a new subscriber today!
Hi, I got the code P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) and it’s consuming more Gas than a v12 😂😂, if I replace the catalytic you replaced in the video it will be normal again, right? Btw the problem just started after it drowned, I was driving and it was raining and the street were like a lake and the SUV just went off, this is the only problem that I got after that 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for the detailed illustration! I had the 3.7L 2014 PIU where the space is limited and bank1 cat can not be wiggled out. Now after moving the engine forward and upward, it is much easier now. Cheers. Link here: ua-cam.com/video/zV5mVI_gX-o/v-deo.html

Dumb question but at 4:14 what is that part wrapped in wire? It’s rattling and making a loud noise on my explorer I’m worried it’s gonna cost a lot
Also it’s seems like it’s not getting power but it’s just that one piece thats banging around like it’s gonna come loose
