Hey! I watched all of your 36 karts vs 1 staff ghost videos and I'm starting to come to conclusions on which characters are better than others based on their kart selection. The order of characters is based on how they were shown in this video. Kinda sort of a tier list but out of order. S is Top, A is High, B is Mid, C is Low, D is Bottom and F is Worst/Negligible. *Mario: B tier.* Karts aren't great overall but certainly easy to use. Whenever I want to take a break from snaking and still play this game, I find myself choosing his Standard Kart. It's still fun. But Mario's problem is how middle of the road and nothing special his karts are. Not bad, not good, not viable overall. *Luigi: A tier.* If you're not using the Egg 1, BLS or even Dry Bomber, you're using his amazing Poltergust, one of the absolute best karts in the game. Its low drift combined with its very high miniturbo duration makes it a very formidable snaking kart. The speed, which is the highest of his fellow middleweights and close to that of the heavyweights, and acceleration of his karts are above average too. His Standard and Poltergust just excel as snaking karts. Even his Streamliner isn't that bad. Not great but better than the other karts with a high item stat. But Luigi himself is not a lightweight and you're better off putting Dry Bones in any of his karts than himself. The Poltergust is great but it's not a beginner's snaking kart. These are almost nitpicks though. *Peach: C tier.* God, the Royale is AWFUL. I would say it's the worst kart but the Tyrant and Rambi Rider are pretty atrocious too. At least they have speed but the Royale has some acceleration. Peach's karts Drift stats are WAY too high for any Mario Kart game, especially this one. There's no need to take turns this tightly when drifting. Hell, whenever I use the Royale I find myself falling off the track because it's drift is just so damn HIGH. Her Standard and Light Tripper aren't good either because of their drift stats. What's also baffling is that she lacks handling too. Even though her drift is monstrous, her handling or even speed should be average but nah it's bad. Almost heavyweight bad. Her karts were just not made for this game. Peach's karts aside from her Royale aren't that bad (which is why she's better than DK and Bowser) but the Royale is what makes Peach low tier. *Yoshi: A tier.* If Dry Bones is the game's golden boy, Yoshi is this game's very close runner up. The Egg 1 is my favorite kart in this game. Not only is it probably the best snaking kart but it also has okay speed, something Yoshi's karts have over that of Dry Bones. Not as fast as Poltergust and absolutely not BLS but this is what keeps is from being sluggish. It is also the lightest kart in the game, tied with Mario's Shooting Star, so it automatically has great off-road! I don't like how weight and off-road correspond but I don't care right now. Yoshi's karts are very good overall too. The Cucumber is actually okay and his Standard is one of the best of its kind. But Yoshi loses to Bones because the acceleration and handling of his karts are only second to Bones's. I never got why Yoshi was ever lightweight in any Mario Kart game but it works for him here. *Toad: B tier.* I want to put Toad higher but his karts are only good and not much more. The Mushmellow is good but I hardly use it. It has some of what makes a good snaking kart but it falls short. Not much to say about Toad's Standard either. However, I never liked his 4-Wheel Cradle. Not one bit. Not only is it ugly, it's too heavy to deserve such high acceleration and handling. I hate its speed though. Mushmellow and Standard can get away with it but 4-Wheel is just super sluggish. At least the heavyweights have high speed to back that weight up but 4-Wheel doesn't have that. I put Toad at the top of mid tier because he's a lightweight. He's only slightly heavier than Bones. You can put him in any of the great snaking karts and you'll do good! Otherwise, pass. *DK: D tier.* Worse than Peach, better than Bowser. Yikes. We've reached the bottom of the barrel (literally). The Rambi Rider is very heavy and has really good drift but... that's it. It just sucks so much at everything else. It's not even one of the faster karts. DK's karts are fast but a bit too slow for his weight class. His Standard and Wildlife are nothing special either. The stats of his karts are just bad. Really bad. No, it's not even that. In Mario Kart games, it's either the lightweights or the heavyweights that are considered competitively viable. DK and his heavy brethren would fare better in Mario Kart Wii and beyond. Not here. Definitely not here. He's better than Bowser because DK's karts are simply better. Not by much but better nonetheless. Heavyweights in general (except ROB) got the short stick in this game for sure. *Wario: C tier.* Better than Peach and DK? Yeah, that's right. He's low tier but he's better than them. His karts as a whole aren't good but his Brute is actually alright in my opinion. Absolutely not viable for competitive. No way. It's just fun though. It has really good speed and its drift is low enough so you can snake I guess? If only his miniturbo wasn't so low. It's better than that of DK and Bowser though. His Standard is kinda there and his Dragonfly is bad for sure but I don't even hate that kart either. Wario's karts are good for casual play. His karts would probably fare a hell of a lot better in the games after DS but nope they're in DS, a game centered around acceleration, handling low drift and mini turbos. Wario's heavy too so there's that. Poor Wario. He'll get you next time. He won't lose to a bunch of losers. *Bowser: F tier.* Worst character and karts in the game by far. All of them. Bad. Like Peach, Bowser's karts were not made for this game. Bowser, I love you but you need to take a shower because you were done so dirty. The Tyrant might be the worst kart in the game. High speed and good drift are decent for casual play but we're talking about competitive Mario Kart DS here. Bowser's miniturbo stat across all his karts is pathetic. Might as well not use miniturbos at all. Well yeah you should but you get it. His karts CANNOT TURN and his Tyrant is the biggest example of that. Worst acceleration and handling in the game. High speed kinda means nothing in this game when you don't have at least a long miniturbo duration like ROB. Bowser just has nothing in this game. Zilch. Never pick any of his karts in any situation, even if you close your eyes and decide to pick a character and kart at random. Keep in mind that weight and off-road correllate so Bowser just does not function off-road. *Daisy: C tier.* Best in low tier imo. To be honest, I never paid attention to Daisy and her karts in this game. She's Peach but faster. Light Dancer is good but, again, not meant for this game. Power Flower is pretty gross stat wise. Daisy has worse handling than Peach and that's ultra apparent when using this kart. It's heavyweight bad. Why? Daisy has lower drift than Peach but it's still really high. Only better than Peach because her karts are faster and honestly better. Power Flower isn't godawful like Royale but still bad. Give Daisy and her karts a hard pass. *Dry Bones: S tier* YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE. All of his karts are spectacular (even the Banisher is quite good) and perfect for snaking. His acceleration and handling are pretty much perfect. His drift is low enough so that first timers at snaking can use his karts comfortably. His miniturbos are the longest out of every character. He's the lightest character in the game, perfect for off-road. What else can I say? Look at any world record on any track in this game and who do they use? Dry Bones. Can't say enough about this character. I would point out his atrocious speed but who cares about that when everything else (except for weight) about him is so good? *Waluigi: B tier* Worst in mid tier. His karts are not bad. His Standard is average and his Zipper is not that good but Waluigi's Gold Mantis is pretty underrated. Not the worst snaking kart in the world, even though it's unviable. It's unremarkable but I have some fun using it tbh. But he's worse than Toad and Mario and higher than Daisy for a reason. Like Mario, Waluigi's stats are nothing special. Speed is as good as Luigi's but everything else is... meh? Truthfully, any character lower than high tier isn't that good. There's a large gap between high and mid tier that is connected by Toad who can be considered the gatekeeper to high tier. Waluigi though? Not low tier but not good. *ROB: A tier.* ROB is the best heavyweight by far for so many reasons than one. His karts are a great bunch overall. ROB's Standard is excellent but his BLS is definitely a contender for best kart in the game. Its speed, acceleration, miniturbo duration, and handling are the best out of every heavyweight. It has very very low traction so while it's not the best for every situation it does amazingly when it needs to. BLS is just a wonderful snaking kart. However, because the BLS has such low traction, it is not easy for snaking with and requires getting used to. Even though the BLS is by far the best heavyweight kart, its acceleration and handling aren't quite up to snuff with everyone else's. Same with ROB's other karts. Plus, ROB is a heavyweight (as heavy as Bowser) so his performance off-road could be better. Nevertheless, ROB is still great! So these are the best and worst characters of Mario Kart DS. Yeah, there it is.
Kinda but no. I'll just rank the characters with a little explanation. ROB (BLS): Easily the best once you've gotten good at the game (sub 1:55 rCM or sub 2:05 RR are both good indicators). While it's not the best at every track, it's the best in its class at the tracks it is good at. Luigi (Poltergust): It's a nice blend of Yoshi's karts (Mini-turbo length, acceleration, handling, weight) and ROB's karts (speed, drift). If you're looking to get into this game and want to learn snaking, use the Poltergust or the Egg 1. Yoshi (Egg 1): While it's not up to snuff with the Poltergust or BLS, it's certainly the best all-around kart, being viable on every single track in the game. Dry Bones (Dry Bomber): It's (and his character) got the best offroad stat in the game (making it viable on courses like rLC2), but that's all it really has going for it. No amount of snaking will make up for his kart's absolutely pitiful speed. Great at a lower level of play, but its effectiveness diminishes as you can snake faster and faster. Everyone else idrc about, though they are worse than the Dry Bomber. (Toad gets a shoutout for being the 5th best). Another clarification. If you're playing PRB and don't miss a single mini-turbo (impossible on some tracks), the character you pick does not matter. If you're playing non-PRB (like I do), then it does matter a bit, though 99% of the time you'll be on road and not in grass so it doesn't matter that much overall. In addition handling and acceleration don't matter really matter as you'll be at top speed 99.9% of the time and turning reduces your speed. Just double hop into the turn. t. someone decent at MKDS non-PRB.
@@wazzupyoshi oh hey I forgot abt my comment here. Did Mario kart Ds get a update because now there are 3 mushrooms
The number of mushrooms depends on the item stat of the kart used - a kart's given stats apply in time trials
whats your rank in records ? mine is 3 stars
