Carlos Acosta, Principal Guest Artist of The Royal Ballet, created his first work for the Company in 2013. He chose one of his favourite ballets - Marius Petipa's Don Quixote, a joyful adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes's classic novel. Acosta's production has proved itself a firm audience favourite, acclaimed for its breathtakingly virtuoso dancing, eye-popping designs by Tim Hatley and the sheer energy and exuberance of the production as a whole.
The adventures of the bumbling knight Don Quixote and his ever-faithful squire Sancho Panza have been the inspiration for countless ballets, of which Petipa's is one of the best loved. Acosta has danced the virtuoso role of Basilio many times, and brings that experience to his unique and vibrant vision of the story. Ludwig Minkus's score, created for Petipa, is full of Spanish flair and atmosphere. Don Quixote, with its famously bravura Act III pas de deux and infectious ebullience, is wonderfully entertaining. - Розваги

CARLOS ACOSTA is ballet royalty. I pray all the best for him now that he has "retired"
For him and his School! We do.
Akane is BEAUTIFUL!! and Carlos is hilarious! Such great corrections
This is fascinating to watch as I saw them dance it live on stage a couple of weeks ago. They were absolutely wonderful. Vadim is an incredible dancer, and so is Akane. Love Carlos too!
The context Carlos adds to the storyline is priceless and adds emotional depth and humour to already beautiful movement. Thanks for your upload. So enjoyable 👍🏾👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Carlos Acosta is like that really cool teacher at high school that every student loves and that the older teachers get jealous of because they'll never be as funny. He looks so much fun to work with. Loved the choreography too!

Thank you for this lovely BTS! Really hope to hear Carlos walking through more parts in Don Quixote! All the verbal expression really brings out and explains the choreography so well!!
And kudos to Vadim and Akane!!! Such wonderful dancing! If I wasn't living so far away from the UK I would be catching all of RB's productions!
an amazing pair!!!
I can't wait to show my son more of Carlos! So cool! That is the type of teacher my son really needs!!
Thank you for uploading wonderful video!
I'm very happy because I looked forward to watching a rehearsal by Akane and Vadim.
What a romantic pas de duex!
What a lovely couple!
They are like "Romeo and Juliet"…
I would like to watch this couple on the next tour in Japan,Please!!
This PDD is not a part of original DQ :) Music is from another Minkus ballet - La Bayadere.
what a pianist!!!!!!
Carlos is just utterly charming.
ROFL i love his direction so much. he's hilarious. but the choreo is lovely
7:49 XD PRECIOUS!
I like Carlos! So funny and gave great directions
Their all great!
I adore how enthusiastic and supportive Carlos is.
It definitely has to do with his latin blood! 😉
Please upload more clip of akane takada in royal opera house, there's not much of her footage with the company...
Watch this space!
Royal Opera House alright, thanks for replying :)
Yes, please! We need to see more of her!
プリンシバルに昇格したと聞きました。いつも応援しています‼️
Lively, naughty and expressive.
hey ROH I miss your New videos
so much slapping!
I loved the humour, and putting two beautiful young dancers, at ease with such a pleasant breath of fresh air back into classical ballet, with Carlos Acosta's teaching them his choreography, of Don Quixote. BUT, what has been concerning me now, Royal Ballet, is where is all the new talent, that should come from White Lodge, and then the kids that start such a gruelling, task as to take up ballet from 11 to 16 years old, and then go onto the upper school, if they're good enough, going to? This is a ballet company for British and English dancers too, as "madame" and Sir Fred designed it to be! Yes, I'm watching brilliant dancers from all over the World, but as far as I can see, few from this country. I'm worried and saddened as to why, please?
Catherine Blair. I think it's called globalization and it's happening everywhere. I think it makes me sad but then I get to see all of these wonderful dancers and I have second thoughts. I posted an interview with Tamara Rojo on google+ that speaks to this! you should listen to it.
Ballet is now about talent and is more competitive. If a Cuban professional gets the part but one in the country will all possibilities doesn't, it means how good the Cuban professional is. It's pretty silly to get upset at it.
Curious enough you don't see the same comments when the international professional is European.
This is racism in disguise. Hidden behind "good intentions". The best one gets the job. Simple. If you want the job, be better.
what she s are pretty...
Is this the original music???
What is La Bayadere doing in the middle of Don Q? Weird...
She is technically perfect and is a very beautiful dancer, but not a very fiery and playful kitri
Christy O. Agreed I don’t think she suits this role. She is too reserved and her movement too stylised
i really didn't like these two
I love how Carlos put humanity in classical ballet. "They are people. You're not relaxing in pose." He can make the dancers feel at ease and truly understand the emotion. Vadim and Akane are soooo graceful! Beautiful! Thank you ROH for uploading this video :)
That's the best!
Agreed! At their first run through I didn’t understand the story of the dance until Carlos stopped them and explained the meaning behind those movements. After that they danced with a purpose and you can see the emotions translating into body language. “We’re alone at last!” 😉
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Vadim is utterly adorable, and incredibly talented!
wow, he lifts her up like she weighs nothing at all. Amazing!
Compared to a regularly sized woman, she probably does weigh nothing at all ;D
But I understand it's quite a challenge nonetheless.
Just thinking the same thing, she really looks like she's floating.
They dance beautiful, and Mr. Acosta is very very good teacher and great classic dancer.
The difference between first run through, then second run through after the 'alone at last' talk is so noticeable. The lightness, love and fun in their performance - beautiful.
This shows why Carlos is such a gift to the ballet world. He is an incredible dancer as well as a gifted choreographer with a distinct vision for ballet.
(One tiny glitch though: Next time, please try to attach the microphone in way it doesn't interfere with his jewlery)
Carlos Acosta certainly is an inspirational tutor to those, and other, young dancers. His production of "Don Quixote" is a breath of fresh air to classical ballet - I loved how he 'added humanity' to the staid image of ballet by introducing some live musicians to perform on the stage and involving his performers in some lively applause etc. I had the great good fortune to attend the Gala Premiere of "Don Quixote" and now look forward to the premiere of Carlos's production of "Carmen" for the Royal Ballet next season.
Akane is such a dream...please post more of her, she is absolutely stunning!!!
When he kissed her the first time I thought that wasnt supposed to happen hahahah, beautiful performance
so do I!!
beautiful! vadim's lifts are incredible
Fantastic! Gorgeous dancing. She is lovely and charming with excellent technique. Vadim isn't just a beautiful dancer, he's an excellent partner. He makes it look effortless. Whose choreography is this?
sopranosd the guy with the Spanish accent, Carlos Acosta, choreographed this. he is a famous dancer in his own rights
I wondered about that. It's really fun choreography - more narrative. I have seen Acosta doing this very duet on youtube. He is an amazing dancer as well.
the original choreography, aka the actual dance movements etc, is by Marius Petipa. depending on the choreographer of the performance the company stages, there can be small changes that they are accredited with, mostly to do with movement and their own touches (Acosta telling Akane to go into that pirouette from that soutenu for example) but the original choreography is always credited to the original choreographer, in this case, Marius Petipa :)
Petipa didn't choreograph this PDD. This is music normally used in La Bayadere. Acosta brought it into his DQ and choreographed this.
Carlos Acosta is one of the many great ambassadors of the very prestigious Cuban Ballet School and Style, created by the greats Alicia Alonso, Alberto Alonso y Fernando Alonso.
Vadim is such a breath of fresh air every time I see him, I really hope to see him live one day!
ロンドンまであかねちゃんとムンタギロフさんのステージを見に行けないので、リハーサル動画嬉しいです!
ぜひ日本公演でもお二人のドンキホーテ見たいです!
I love Carlos, he's really expressive and energetic. Amazing video!
I LOVE VADIM!
Vadim is such a dream!
That's why he's called Vadream!
hehe alone at last :D
i read your comment first b4 watching and thought to myself.. what a peculiar statement.. lol.. now i get it!! :)
I love how he entertains the audience!
Love Carlos. We all Cubans are very proud of him !
Me too! I always think, wow, after all those years in England, he’s still so super Cubanaso! 😂 we love him.
I love Carlos, show me someone who doesn't and you will find someone who hates life itself.
In case anyone was wondering, the music is actually from La Bayadere, Act 1, scene "Solor vows love to Nikiya". I didn't realize that until I listened to La Bayadere and thought, "this sounds familiar..."
Anyways, fantastic performance! I loved the acting, and the commentary was spot-on XD
A Carlos le sale el cubano aunque sea en un ballet clasico, felicidades al mejor del mundo...
I just saw in Paris the movie of the life of Carlos Acosta. It was wonderful and an amazing human being.I love Cuba and allthe Cuban artist.Great
Carlos Acosta is genius!! And love Vadim and Akane 🧡 Beautiful!!!
This is the most romantic dance I’ve ever seen from this channel but also to be fair I’ve only watched the nut cracker pas de deux 500 time’s on repeat
Then I suggest you should look for some of the very romantic Romeo and Juliet rehearsals, or maybe some very passionate Mayerling rehearsals, on this Channel. I guess you would enjoy!
Gente que escândalo Vadim e Akane❤️ amo!
The music is from la Bayaderé Pas de deux from first act, right?
888titania yes
Vadim forever!!
what a joyful process for everyone involved.
Always amazing!!
Sublime!
With Carlos Acosta, this is a show in itself.
とっても素敵
リフト超上手い
Acosta bring life on stage - and love. He is realy a wonderful one!
I cried at 9:26
Carlos is so smooth good lord
I dont recognize that music in Don Q, is this added on??
I just couldn’t stop smiling and feeling happy watching them perform. Wow moment.
❤❤❤❤! Прекрасно.. нет слов...
This is my honest opinion along with just a statement.
Vadim has great technical skills and movement yet his skills with theatrical poses is not really there.
Now I know that some people may argue with this but its an opinion and opinions by nature are just what a person perceives. Although, the skills are still pretty neat nonetheless!
Remember this is a rehearsal - I saw the “finished product” and the skills and poses were all there.
@@ntricker true
The three of them together is incredible! Carlos direction, and two amazing dancers! Bravo!💓🤗
So good don’t remember how many times I’ve watched this
💛💛
Colossians 3:3
For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Is this pas de deux music from La Bayadere? What?
Why has the music of Bayadere been included here?
Was this live streaming? Where can I be notified when it's on air?

Female dancer needs to take some acting classes, good dancer ,but the blank smile on her face really diminishes the impact of this pas de deux
The girl is too cold. Even if she acts "sweet" and smiles here and there. She does not fool me. I don't buy any of it. She is seductive, sultry and exciting like a piece of steamed cauliflower....
