Although my first time hearing this the sci-fi robots declaring war on mankind kind of scenario popped up, it was the next 200 times that really started to truly uncover the meaning of this song to me, in the context of my own life. The first half is the struggle of every day life and standing toe to toe with it, taking some blows but ultimately managing to hang on by a thread, only to then be knocked down eventually. That's when the second part comes, and the narrator's voice and message symbolize the fact and inevitability of the hardships of life, but that in the end I was the only one capable of doing something about it (One spark of hope left for all of mankind, whereas mankind can be my life in a smaller scale, or everyone on earth's struggles with their own lives). Then the epic af build up is me getting up and running towards that which has been keeping me down whilst still limping, but gradually getting faster, and that's where I just feel like shouting: "Fuck this shit, im tired of being bound and shackled by these feelings, i've had enough of feeling sorry for myself". I do this almost in a raging manner as if to say time to fucking wake up and seize control of my life, and go all out like a boxer that has completely abandoned any defensive stance and has accepted that in order to land some hard hitting blows he will also be hit equally if not harder, but thats the only conceivable way out of this metaphorical life predicament. The abrupt ending symbolizes an also abrupt cut of a lot of weight and anxiety felt during this masterpiece as I stop to catch my breath because this masterpiece managed to make my heart rate go up quite a bit almost in a fever dream kind of way. I feel like I had to lay down this wall of text because it helped me rearrange what I truly felt about this song, and how it manages to evoke such powerful emotions in people. This is truly an eternal masterpiece.
