Just an idea on the 'free series', instead of trying to go online to track down projects and leads you might want to reach out to friends, family members, church folks etc that might need something fixed, upgraded, replaced, etc. I'm not sure Habitat for Humanity would allow you to film but there may be opportunities there too...if they don't take a job for someone, they might give you a referral for small one day touch jobs. Just thinking on how to help you, I've enjoyed the series!
HVAC guy here. The higher the rating the more restrictive the filter is. The more particulates it can filter out. FPR is something Home Depot came up with instead of Merv like the rest of the industry uses. Want some advise? Do not use high rating filters, it raises the static pressure and makes the blowers work harder in turn lowering the life span of the motor. Just get the lower rated filters and change them monthly.
Throwing a super expensive filter in an old furnace can have a very bad outcome, if it reduces air flow it will kill the performance and efficiency of both your AC and your Furnace. You need the air going across the heat exchange or coil or your furnace may overheat and shut off the more it runs (when it hits 0 outside), or your coil could ice up (when running AC). Totally agree with the cheap filter advice...learned this one the hard way myself.
Definitely an underrated aspect of home maintenance! Happy Saturday folks.

Wow! Thanks for the advice. I very much assumed that the higher the rating the better filter. This is good to know
