Met Colin Firth when I was a teenager. It was with Donald pleasant in Leicester Square. we just hung out and chatted for ages.I got his autograph and predicted (correctly) he would win an Oscar. He went very pink and blotchy, but wished me well. He's such a lovely guy. And for that he's had my lifelong loyalty.
I've met his parents a couple of times now (once at my auntie's wedding and the other at my auntie's father in law's funeral) and you can see where he's gotten his manners from, they're both lovely people. :)
I saw him at said funeral though but never talked to him.
I envy you! I wish I could meet him someday
@@iloveyoufromthedepthofmyheart I guess he's the kind of guy you could instantly like or fall for on sight. Very charming, sweet and a beautiful soul.
@ketij2332 he's as handsome in real life as on screen. Very well versed, intelligent and articulate. Remarkably lovely man.
Donald Pleasance?
He is a lovely gentleman. Very classy how he carries himself.
That he is.
Manners maketh man
FYI for all my fellow Americans:
In Britain, "public school" is what we call "private school," and the two schools mentioned (Harrow and Eton) are famous elite private (American meaning) middle-to-high schools.
So when he says he "never went to public school," he means he DID have what we Yanks would call a "public education."
It comes from a times when there was no national school system. Rich kids were tutored at home.
Once schools were established for these kids they were referred to as “public schools” meaning they were open to the public (in theory)
Eton is a charity school and heavily subsidised by the taxpayer.
@@Imyrae yeh but in his case (and most commonly) public school means a school like eton not a state funded school
@@Imyrae I get what you mean.
That’s very helpful, thank you!
There needs to be a classier word than "classy" to describe Colin Firth
Dashing, debonair, suave, urbane, sophisticated...
Posh tart? And said the way I mean it is a real compliment
genteel
Erudite.

Colin firth is forever my Mr Darcy. I absolutely adore him. Such a wonderful man.
forever Mark Darcy to me!
Colin’s parents were professors. One of them was public school and Cambridge educated, and had been education officer for the Nigerian government. Colin grew up in the Home Counties. He went to drama school. He is intelligent, well-read, sophisticated, and has impeccable manners.
Yet, because he was state educated, he is ‘not from that background’.
What a bizarre country I live in.
Being rather picky here, but he grew up in Winchester when he wasn't travelling around for his parent's jobs (got this from Colin's Wikipedia page). Hampshire isn't usually considered a home county as it doesn't border Greater London, but it is close enough to London to travel into easily
@@MrsMster all true, but as you said, it is only usually not considered a home county. So one can still respectably contend that he grew up in the Home Counties
I expect it’s being spoken about in the tone that they refer to Kate Middleton as being a commoner.
He's what I call, a "classic brit".
Once it was considered essential to speak well, and have good manners, so that everyone could understand what you said the first time you said it. ...... This was vital in war, when dithering over who said what means a higher probability of deaths and injuries will occur. ...... This helped build a common understanding. ...... Schools of many types were privately funded to provide a good education, at a time when education of the masses was not the concern of government.
Then socialists grew in strength, and some murdered royal families in cold blood, slaughtered their own people, and starved to death many who refused to submit. ...... World Communism was the goal, and anything that diminished National Unity was seen by them as a good thing.
Let us not forget that Hitler was enabled to start WW2 by Stalin's agreement to help himself to half of Poland alongside Germany, plus giving Germany vast resources, including the oil that fuelled the Blitzkreig. ...... Socialists and communists in Britain were opposed to the war effort, and frequently sabotaged it, until 'Poor Russia' was savaged by German in 1941, when their attitude did a 180 degree volte face.
So ever since WW2 there has been a consistent campaign to put socialists in control of everything that shapes the person, the family, and the nation. ...... The state has thrust it's nose ever deeper into everyone's life, and mental illness has skyrocketed as a result.
People of little or no talent are given lucrative employment simply because they toe a certain line, have skin of a certain colour, and speak in ways that make listening to them a form of torture. ...... To speak clearly, is to advertise that you are NOT socialist or communist, and thus subject to apartheid in equality Britain. ...... Unless, of course, your name was Viscount Stansgate ( a gentleman through and through ).
Swoon. Such a classsy and dignified gentleman. True to character
Met him in Singapore airport - most charming and kind celebrity I've met. Lovely bloke :)
I agree.i met him when I was a teenager, and predicted (correctly) that he'd get an Oscar. He was quite sweet and slightly flustered when I told him he would. Wonder if he remembered that...
He is the most charming, dashing, dreamy man on planet earth.
The fight in the church in Kingsman is epic. And putting Freebird over it is an act of genius

I just decided to go rent Kingsman and watch it for the first time, midway through this video. It did not disappoint.
It’s a great spoof spy film with great performances and great visual effects.

I adore the English actors, they are dignified, intelligent and well-trained, they stay within their limits as actors. You will have to look far to get a big mouth, full of himself British actor..there are, but they are sparsely seeded.

I like his answer about receiving the award. I'd rather be a loser tbh 🤣
I'm so happy our little fandom still alive! Look at us go!!
Loveeeeeeeeeeeee him🖤what a sweet soul✨
I regularly watch the stunning apocalyptic fight scene from KINGSMAN: SECRET SERVICE. No matter how many times I've enjoyed it, it always takes my breath away.
U know what he's a good actor watched him in both movies 1 and 2. Became a fan since
Just noticing, Colin’s intonations and inflection are quite Ken Barlowesque (William Roache) 😊
He would be a perfect James Bond.
Ya know, I wouldn't mind this over previous picks.
He has the suaveness but he's a bit outdated to be a modern spy.
15-20 years ago maybe.
He is pretty old now
He's a talented actor, but I doubt he could carry off the callousness required of Bond. There's different versions, but the original character was a very cold fish.
What an elegant eloquent and wonderful individual, we should take a note from his book
a true kingsman

The part about the in-laws, reminds me of one of my professors. He spent almost 20 years as a teacher in S. Korea. He and a Korean colleague stepped into a taxi, Dr. R gave the directions in Korean. The driver looked at the colleague, who didn't answer. Dr R repeated, this went on about 3 times, then colleague started gibberish speaking. Dr R said he's Chinese, then the driver proceeded to follow directions.😍
This was 6 1/2 years ago. In the meantime he got divorced can’t believe he didn’t appear on the Jonathan Ross show during all of this time.

Colin should be the next James Bond
He's too classy for Bond
He's too old for Bond, but he'd be far better as M than Ralph Fiennes.
the fact that there is such a difference between Penne Arrabiata and Pene Arrabbiata, brings whole new meaning to Eddie Izzards bit about the Death Star Canteen.....
