    QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS:
Who do you think might be in your 'cloud of witnesses?'
    HERE'S HOW:
Today is a good day to be active participants in the clouds of others. To be listeners, those who can rejoice in the good of others. Today, express gratitude for those who have shaped you and ask God how you can continue to shape others. May you walk into conversations not with the intention of imposing our agenda but with the intention of blessing and listening, because every person you interact with is part of our story. And in doing so, may you experience the profound transformation that comes from living a life centered on love, service, and understanding.
Become New is here to help you grow spiritually one day at a time.

Called a dear friend this morning.
It's her birthday🥳 She and I and another friend who's gone now, we had many adventures together in the 70's.✌️ I did find myself lost in her conversation about her children, her grandchildren, and the hope for great grandchildren. I too, shared about my family and it was a delightful conversation.🙏🏻🕊

29 years ago, I was a fairly new believer and the teachings of John were very instrumental in shaping me into a follower of Jesus! I read many of his books over the years and now it seems like I’ve come full circle listening to Become New. I’m grateful for you John and the positive impact you have had on my spiritual journey! Well done!!!

Almost 40 years ago, I was assigned to a Navy command staffed with a commanding officer and three lieutenants. I learned a lot from our CO. He was fair to others in everything he did. I yearned for his praise as every "atta boy" I got from him meant I had met his high standard in treating fairly the nearly 1,000 sailors we served. Time passed and twelve years later, I was selected to become a commanding officer. I applied my prior skipper's standards, and as a result, I was offered an extension to remain the CO of my unit for another year. I declined. I thanked the commodore for the offer but explained it was someone else's turn to take the reins, and the fair thing to do would be to let that person get a chance to lead.

Love today's message. As a final project in my spiritual direction program, TLC, I gathered the pictures of my Cloud of Witnesses. John was one of the many mentors that influenced my spiritual journey. Others in my Cloud include Sibyl Towner, Mary Ulick, my junior high Catechism pastor, Pastor Gast, Henry Cloud, Dallas Willard, Henry Nouwen, the Apostle Paul, Joseph, Lee Strobel, Phyllis Tickle, Bill Bright, Josh McDowell, my grandparents, my mother, Nancy Beach, Joan Kelley, Gayle Donahue, Sharon Swing, Parker Palmer, Phil Yancy, Gary Haugen, Martin Luther, Job, Eva Sullivan, Jeanie Hoover, Helen Cepero, Jeanne Ley, Ruth Barton. This is just a sampling of my Cloud for which I continue to be thankful. Thanks John for you seminar with Ruth Haley Barton, An Ordinary Day with Jesus.

Early I discovered A. W. Tozer who said the mark of a spiritual person is one that would rather die right than live wrong. That he was a mystic helped me later when I discovered the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, but no two people have meant more than Dallas Willard and Eugene Peterson. By reading Dr. Willards biography, Becoming Dallas Willard, I share his flaws, but that he didn't just stay where he was and had courage to reconsider the gospel of Jesus has been, as they say, a "game changer". Reading Eugene Peterson's books and version of the scriptures has been revolutionary is allowing me to see Jesus' environment born into and how he didn't follow any path of his day. That all three men had flaws. As they did, I hope to always be pressing forward.

Quick question...every day you start out by saying "nobody gets the story they want". I am wrestling with this statement. What do you mean by that? It sounds rather depressing.
We all have goals and dreams. Sometimes we find that achieving the goal or fulfilling the dream is not all that we expected.
That said, I cannot say that I have the story I did not want. Rather, I have a story that I did not expect (and how boring would that be...to get everything I expect?).
Am I misinterpreting? If so, would you be so kind as to explain?

Brian, there are so many times I can become fixed on those things "I" want. I love how positively you view this. How many times do we pray for something and don't get what we want, but God provides what we need, instead? Thank you for watching and sharing!

Many amazing people have and continue to add value to my life. I am only better because of them. But one in particular stands out, even though I haven't seen them in years. Our relationship ended abruptly and not well. But they prayed for me and usher me into this great discovery of Jesus Christ as my Savior. So, no matter the outcome of our relationship, my gratitude for them is forever intact. May they be blessed wherever they find themselves today.

One of my witnesses is the second pastor at my very first church, Peter Hart. I was part of his Bible study group and one of the things I will always be grateful for is, he never made me feel that the questions I asked ( I was a very new believer) were stupid and therefore I have never been afraid to ask questions. There are many more but he was the first.

I've reached that age in life where many of those in my cloud have left this world and this side of eternity. I'm ever so grateful that I can recall their indelible imprint on my life. Because of their investment in my spiritual and personal development, I became a teacher, impacting the lives of young people every day.
