Kuwohi is the original Cherokee name of the mountain currently called Clingmans Dome. The name change from Kuwohi to Clingmans Dome happened in 1858. Kuwohi is the true and rightful name of the mountain and Lavita Hill and Mary Crowe are seeking to restore the old Cherokee name. Both are members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Kuwohi is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is the ancestral homelands of the Cherokee people.
