Great video coach! My team is using a lot of palms, I play as boundary safety and I have a question. Me as safety playing 8-9 yards distance, do you think I have time to read the OLine and look back to #2 and stay good to swap to #1 if needed or should I stay focused all the time on #2 after the snap and make the swap to #1 if needed?
One ofm y biggest problems as free safety making the best read in zone. Ik its kinda broad, but I mean like deciding wether to play deep and watch for deep threats or coming up to make a play. Could you make a video or respond on how to do this, or some of the things to watch for?
When I played, the free safety was always taught nobody gets behind you. I’m not really sure what you mean by coming up and making a play. If it’s a run play, everyone on the defense should be picking an angle and going after the ball. If you’re talking trying to make a play before the ball is in the air, then that doesn’t make any sense unless you’re blitzing. Otherwise you’re just getting out of position trying to guess what the quarterback is going to do with the ball before he does it.

As a Safety read the #2 receiver then snap to #1. Everything else after that depends on the scheme/coverage.
