I met Buster at the old SGI-USA Community Center in East Orange, New Jersey. Amazing man! He and Herbie are among the many reasons I'm proud to be a Buddhist!
I keep Vibrations on speed play! I got into jazz as a kid through my dad, and he, then I, owned a Buster Wiiliams album that had Freddie Hubbard on it, can't remember the name of the song. 😖 Saw Herbie Hancock at Newport Jazz in the late 90's. Still hooked on these two, years later......
Upon hearing the Mwandishi recordings Williams instantly became one of my alltime favorite musicians. In richness of tone and relentless grooving he is the equal of Ron Carter. But then he also does this wildly imaginative stuff... far out. I Wonder why he isn't a household name in jazz. He seems to be very modest, that may be one reason for it.

I met Buster Williams about 18 years ago..
Fantastic Bassist...
So that's how Hancock embraced Buddhism.
I met Buster several times through the SGI-USA
What a beautiful, inspiring story!❤
Buster's bass on 'Sextant' was insane!
I had the pleasure of interviewing Herbie in Hawaii, and meeting Wayne Shorter, some 10 years ago.

For those interested, check out A New Shade Of Blue by Harold Land on which Buster lays out some amazing bass as well
