I like Trav, he's got a great attitude and approach to the game. I've been watching him since before 10k Subs. Seeing him take his coaches advice and implement into his game is huge. He seems like a very coachable person, someone who's willing to try new things and isn't set in his ways. I agree with you about his past Coaches. I don't think he was given the attention goalies require. Too many coaches just put the goalie in net and run mediocre basic drills with no 1on1 engagement or advice on how to improve. A lot of coaches mentality is "I just need him to stand up front and stop pucks" That's not 100% their fault, they are ignorant to the position and are only able to coach what they saw coaches doing when they played.
@@FutureProGoaltending !00% Agree. My boy is Jr Rocket and every year is the same. Mediocre drills, stand there for target practice and take shots off the head....nothing really learned except for when he comes out to your monthly class at the Gemini. He looks forward to those!
I think what really hold him back is quite slow lateral movement, he uses a butterfly a lot but takes too long to react to rebounds. I notice clips of him diving across the net to save low rebounds rather than exploding across with his legs
I agree. I think with any athlete there are several "fixables" and as a coach you have to zone in on them and triage them. In our post session skating torture we spent a lot of time trying to get his lower body athleticism working better. Many big goalies can mask this because of size on the initial shots. It is in the post save chaos where these things see him diving, lunging and throwing scorpions...

Thanks for sharing, see you for the next one bright and early on Friday!
After watching many of Travs videos, I felt like he needs to put himself up against higher end competition. I think this will elevate his game or at least expose weaknesses. I remember playing with Division 1 and AHL players and it really helped my game as I had to become better to keep up.
And the Great Cold Death of the Earth agreed...playing above your pay grade forces ramping up and normally most goalies can adjust up within a few hours.
What I like is that he is a voice for the silent witnesses. In an extreme setting, like the NHL/Hockey world we get to hear success stories and recipes for that success. This is part of the marketing of the sport ( any sport for that matter ). Almost never do we hear about people applying that recipe and not getting that same level of success. There are a lot of those since there are only a limited number of spots. He is the non-silent witness. Very interesting stuff. He is actually doing more for the sport and goalies than he realizes, more than all the success stories combined.
QBziZ his struggles are the default for basically everyone who straps them on. It is hard for people to grasp the true reality of the odds. Like in “dumb and dumber” where he says, “so you are saying there is chance”. He is documenting the struggles involved while the readers and himself intuitively know his ending. It is the push inspite of certain failure that is endearing. He has so many subscribers because everyone else is in the exact same path except the rare, rare glorified outliers that make it.
Trav is a great guy, either as a goalie, chef, or making vids on youtube. I do like his city scapes! I've noticed improvements from his games in Columbus to now with putting in the work. I hope he continues!

Thanks for the comments. I like watching Trav's vids and I hope he realizes whatever goals he sets for himself. I am sure he has grown being around you and working with you.
I have worked with Justin Fazio since he started playing goal. I don’t work with OHL teams because they don't pay much. I live 15 minutes from Sarnia in Forest.
When working as an NHL/professional goalie coach, how does one coach a goalie like dominik Haskek, or brodeur who style of play isn’t necessarily how you would train a youth player. ie you get a job with the LA Kings and they sign a non traditional goaltending style (non butterfly), but works for them because of their skill and changing too much would hurt their success. How do you go about training them?
Nicholas Coen regardless of style and approach 3 things remain constant. 1) positional control 2) rebound control 3) puckhandling control. So at the pro level you never change style and general approach, just tweaks and pounding the 3 control elements...
He is a young guy with many open doors. Being a professional may not be in cards, but I would never chirp him for putting in the work. It's not an insult to not be a professional. The available spots are so limited. I know of a local guy who won 2 national titles with BC , and hasn't even got to back up an nhl game. Been bouncing ahl, echl, and now Europe. I enjoy his videos though
Trav is a monster...do you think he should stand up a little more and challenge with that size or am I being too old school? Also best Vaughn setup ever for my money is Brown and Gold Kirk McLean...25 years later and I still want that trapper.
Patience on your feet is something all goalies can be a little better. KIrk was my roommate and loved his set ups. His mask had a real 4 leaf clover laminated in his back plate
I love it for how light it is and easy to move in. I have hundreds of kids in it every summer and I am huge fan of Pete Smith and the work he does with Warrior. He is a true innovator and is responsible with Mike Vaughn for brining "pro fly) pads to the game many years ago.
I think he eats so many hamburgers and there are people on a diet, and that's mean. You both rock it. Hope trav can find a coach and takes him to the next level.
I love all new things coming into the game as long as we can understand where they fit and they don't. For instance, I love the RVH but it is evolving now into a better deployment. Anything I find that doesn't make sense, I try to study it for strengths and weaknesses and try to distill it down to where it can work the best.
@@FutureProGoaltending I love the RVH in certain in tight scenarios. I remember Belfour being the one that I watched as a kid doing it in Chicago. I find kids use it when the puck is too far away and they get caught. As for the Stick Hover that one doesn't click in my head for me but that maybe because I'm 6'1" and not a tower.
Graham Emmett well I know he didn’t play well and head coach and former teammate Pete Deboer got axed. Hard to tell whether that drop in play can be tied to gear. Belfour struggled and Theodore also struggled after gear switches.
You seem like a good coach, but here's the deal. The SPHL isn't what it used to be. Most goaltenders in the SPHL are former Division 1 NCAA goalies or Major Junior goalies. I could see him playing ACH Mens Senior hockey in Canada, or maybe the Federal Hockey League in the USA. But to say he would be a good goaltender in the SPHL is just a strange thing to say. He's 24 years old and has never played a game in college. This training may all be for not, but I think with training earlier in life like this, he could have been elite at some point.
No question. I have always said his peak potential would be SPHL IF he continues to develop in college for a few years. There are a ton of things that would have to go his way for that to happen but he is as committed as anyone. I have placed kids with Roanoke and watched several games last year. It is definitely a much better league than the casual fan would think. Thanks for watching the videos.
@@FutureProGoaltending Oh for sure. It gets a bad rap because of how it was 5-10 years ago. The SPHL was basically the Fed back then. Now there's actually some real skill in it and the games competitive. I think trav needs to 1st off..commit to something instead of just looking for the next best thing. And 2.
