This is fascinating and really should be bigger news. I really respect David Neal for speaking with such candour. He's the kind of person that should be in such a job, and I hope he returns to the role/a similar role in future.

Interesting that he'd been "warned". The fact that the end of the meeting was carried out in private because he felt if he'd been fully candid some sort of punishment would be dished out by the Home Office. Parliamentary committees give full protection against legal action yet this was not enough. The private section I understand enabled that full honest opinion to be discussed. This show the bullyboy tactics of this government.

So this man is NOT a whistleblower but a man doing his contracted job. He has made his report which does not meet with official approval! He merely explains the fact to the Committee! This is as the contract requires. So who withdrew the contract ? Perhaps their contract should be recinded!
I like how Dame Diana Johnson refers to Jimmy Dimly as "the latest Home Secretary". We are, after all, on our fourth Home Secretary (Braverman had two bites at the cherry, but only counts as one) since the last general election.

Select Committees are the same people who sit in the House. They are all (party allegiance aside) part of the same system and structures so this is just fluff.
They will ask a few questions, a report will be written, the MP’s trouser a few grand for being in a committee (any committee) and the report will be filed away until the next report
Neal was supposed to just rubber stamp whatever he was instructed to rubber stamp. Include a few recommendations but ultimately says it’s all fine. He just went rogue, unable to ignore the core principles of open borders that infests the Home Office
They sacked him to make sure he didn’t leak anything else and make him unemployable

He isn’t ACTUALLY supposed to report on the border. His job is to do what the government tell him to do just like the judges in the government enquiries.

You have described his role in accordance to Tory party understanding. However, from a legal point of view, his role is 100% to report, impartially, on the situation on the UK's borders, allowing Civil Servants, Police and Armed Forces to act as required, and Politicians to legislate as needed.
Civil servants are there to serve the parliament as a whole, not the whims of the party in government.

I have to smile at the advocates for removing the Tories from government, and while I am in full agreement with that, I am fearful as to the kind of individuals that would end up replacing them. Does anyone think those replacements would be any better, or just political doppelgangers. Considering the present crop of creatures inhabiting the political germ pool, would it not be a case of new brooms, but using the same old broom.
I think the point is that unless the current administration is replaced quickly we stand a chance of being too far down the road to be saved. I’m 71 and can honestly say I’ve never known such blatant lying and corruption in my lifetime. They are becoming more dangerous with every passing day.

The problems the Tories have now is that they've not only presided over the crumbling of basic public services (which everyone expected), but they can't even handle the traditional right-wing talking points like immigration, law and order, and economic growth. They've spent the last 14 years whipping up hysteria around immigration, only getting stronger in recent years, and then shown everyone that the have a complete lack of control over it. And that's why they're keen to silence anyone who shows their record to the public, because even their core voters who really care about this stuff don't trust them to fix it any more.
NO Wonder this country never gets any better , in the real world their salary provider would go bankrupt . Oh yes the tax paying voters are heading that way . To much management and no questions allowed . Ring fenced from the top down .

The abhorrent toxicity in Westminster is pretty much an open secret at this point and it has too many people who are truly drunk on their sense of power and untouchability. Those that get called out are sadly outliers; those that suffer real consequences even fewer.
We know sexual abuse is rife, with people who are known to be offenders not facing consequences because the victims who would speak out fear the harm that would fall back on them.
We know drug-use, such as Cocaine, is also common, except the police won't properly investigate. I'm not one to condemn drug-use by itself, but an addictive ego-enhancer is not an ideal mix for irresponsible people who think being elected gives them special rights above others. And it goes without saying you don't mix this stuff with work and expect productive results.
Without effective, enforceable standards that are removed from the purview of the PM to choose to discard when convenient this toxic workplace will continue and it will continue to have extremely poor results for the country. It's long since time to remind politicians who they work for and that it's not a free ride.

Not really. Without PR in place, I wouldn't be happy just to hand it over to another elected dictatorship. That would be like exiting the loo with your skirt riding or your shirt hanging up. Everyone would immediately know we weren't paying attention, or too distracted not to ensure it couldn't happen again.

He was recently sacked for whistle-blowing about serious security failings in border control practices. Not sure why you'd make a comment on a video without even understanding what it's about.
