I had no idea that his family did so much to help him turn in who we know today, amazing video!
Really? Well That’s unbelieveble
You didn’t ? Thank God for this video
"Behind every GOAT is a 2000 FIDE parent." - Magnum Carlos
The massive support from his family is what made him who he is today.🖤
Yeah, you generally need that kind of deliberate support and help to get where Magnus is, along with his natural talent obviously. If things were off even a little or planned wrong, then he likely doesn't make it where he is, maybe no where close at all since he could have given up chess for all we know. Interesting to hear this though since they don't talk about Magnus, his family, his relationship with them and others as related to chess, and his young years.
He's v blessed. Not only does he have incredible memory and focus, his father and 1st coach had his welfare as #1 right from the start. Some other parents of prodigies werent like this. The sacrifices made by the family must have made a deep impact in his life.
To give everyone an idea regarding his draw againts kasparov (during that time kasparov was considered the best chest player in history, beating everyone prior to their match “magnus v kasparov” kasparov has attained a position where no one can reach, even winning a chess game against every chess master in the world at the same time (kasparov v the world). So a draw againts kasparov is considered a win, not to mention the age of magnus when playing againts against kasparov
It was amazing, but those kinds of things have happened before. Howell vs Kramnik was a lot more shocking and statistically improbable. Magnus was a grandmaster at 13 when he got the draw. He was about 300-400 points less than Gary rating wise. Gary should score about 8.5 out of 10 on average statistically with that gap over magnus. Gary won 2 and drew 1, so statistically it's not nearly as crazy as people make it out to be. His result vs Gary wasn't nearly as crazy as people think. What is crazy is that Magnus was already a grandmaster at 13, and good enough to be playing Gary at all. He's one of the only chess players in history to be that good, so that is what's amazing about this story, not the draw. It sounds good when you say 13 year old draws the best player ever, but when you break down the ratings and performances, it wasn't that shocking at all. It was cool though, and i'm sure very very exciting for Magnus and his family at the time. It could be predicted with statistics though. David Howell did something more impressive actually. He drew Kramnik at 11 years old with a rating of around 2200, he was only a fide master just recently. He drew 1 and lost 2 just like Magnus, but the chances of David doing that with only a 2200 rating were much much lower, so it was a lot more shocking and surprising. David only turned out to be about 2660 later on. We can't predict much with these one games anyway. One game never gives us enough info about a player. David is the youngest player to draw a super grandmaster like Kramnik I believe. I think he has that record.
Great video, wonderfully to the point and well researched!
Really informative video ❤❤great justice for the unsung heroes behind magnus success.

0:59 Ah yes! Mangus Carlsen my favourite chess player
WEO0W your the best chess youtuber ive seen kept it uppp man
Henrik deserves a homagé of at least a movie length, a book, or a series. There is SO much chess content out there but this is the first time I encounter a closer look than just a sentence spent on this absolute legend. an example for generations of how to support one's child's dreams in a protective but openminded manner. it's easy to CONDITION a good chess player and many have done it (see laszlo polgar), but the way Henrik approach the task of a guide and father is just exceptional. God bless him
This is why people are skeptical of hans, in one hand you have someone like magnus who the upmost respect for the game, has this type of life experience with chess, the support from his family knowing they had something special. In the other hand you have someone who has openly cheated, obviously doesn’t respect the game and is a bit on the sketchy side about showing variations. Idk how some people can still question the scandal
@@Gardener7 when there’s two people behind you and someone slaps you in the back of the neck but no one confesses, please don’t even think about blaming anyone 😂
@@tacoswelding8411 I have studied the game against Carlsen and Hans did nothing weird. Carlsen just played a few weak moves. Also Hans was scanned by security and there were no devices on him.
@@Gardener7 oh okay than
That changes everything! Thanks you have now changed my mind along with everyone else’s! 👍🏼
🤦🏽♂️
That support was amazing.who would do that. If my family supported me like that in my younger years maybe I was an IM now at least FM now what a great story
Great video. Thanks!

Imagine if we all had parents as supportive and with as much foresight as the Carlsens.
I have those kind of parents but, i waste my time and putting much effort 😔
@@IanJamesG bobby fischer had none of those things and became a chess grandmaster and champion.
@@zorbajevonbut not the goat. and how sad, how lonely his life was. nothing is worth it, nothing.
dammmm, its always behind the scenes we never seem to know....
You have to think long term.
He definitely did❤.
Genius is born and made.
Great video
We always see the man behind the pieces and we forgot (most of us) the family that supported him throughout his career.
Well presented.
I will make myself improve even If I don't have support
Now tell us about "projects" that didn't live up to expectations and hype: Negi, Nyzhnyk etc.
Such great support from his family. Respect.
Behind every great genius/athlete is whole lot of work and support from parents and coaches. Just look at Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura.
Wow incredible story!
We need info about the mother and her decisions as well....
Magnus Carlsen turned into Harry Potter for a brief moment.
1:10 that is Paolo Maldini
I just wish more people had a father like Hendrik
0:59 mangus' lol
Magnus Carlsen, a generational talent in the world of chess! this type of genius is somewhat scary.
thats insane
how a chess monster is created
Damn Magnus’ family truly deserve so much praise for sacrificing their normal lives to see him flourish into what he is today.
I have to point out, that Magnus hasn't forgot his family after getting rich and famous.
can you do one with nakamura
Simen is such an inspiration football and chess 😍
He has dominated the game for _more_ than a decade. He's been ranked #1 in the world since July 2011.

I agree with u but we cant ignore the fact that magnus is exceptionally talented as well as extreme learner bcuz dont forget his sister ellen carlsen who was also encouraged to play chess...thats why everyone cant become world no 1
Most ruthless and most vicious champion that had ever been...
Mangus Carlsen
What has Paolo Maldini has to do with this story :D ?! 1:10
Carlsen is definitely the Goat
This is the reason why I can't stand the arrogance of those gm's who say: "If you didn't start young, you will never be a master. Have you ever seen a grown man becoming a chess master?".
"Well, have you ever seen a grown man dropping a job to start playing a board game eight hours a day?".
wow
Genetics + effort
Magnus is GOAT just like his father
because his name is prophet
all you need is a sister, you wanna beat

Lol the no colour edit like this was 40 years ago.. sad edit
1st?
you can"t get 2.5/9 with 4 draws.. it is wrong
Was Carlson conscious enough to have let Gary win out of respect for his pride.. hmm I wonder
Highly highly unlikely. I can't imagine any 13 year old doing that ever actually. A draw at 13 is impressive enough though.
As magnus said years laters, "I played as a kid vs gary, but I was a kid" or something like that
Very informative video, apart from the unnecessary out-of-place & annoying soundtrack.

@@Croco_G
You dont understand basic language usage. If something is "not a lot", less than it's double could never be "a very lange amount". Idiot..
Imagine he used that intelligence for something actually productive and cool. What a waste of genius brainpower..
He used it for chess. That's not a waste of time. He's worth 30 million off of chess. Stop the cap
@@zorbajevon
Wait what.. hes worth 30mill of chess? If true thats crazzyyy damn.
But still a waste. Wouldve been cooler making 100mil as a genius is something real
@TravelBandit yes 30 million. He's been playing since 8 and became a grandmaster at 13. Chess isn't a waste. What's a waste is not utilizing your God-given talent and doing what people expect you to. I'm a chess instructor. It teaches you decision-making and creativity. I make more money than you do at your regular job.
