The jbls are better, but you might as well consider the Infinity 6x8, (they are made by the same manufacturer as the jbl's which is Harman) also the Polks are great too. The Polks are 4-ohm but the good thing about the jbl's and the Infinitys is that they are 2 ohm so they get the most out of your head unit or amplifier🍺
That's weird , I have two pair of them in my Tacoma on a CT Sounds CT-80.4AB amp and they sound incredible. You may have gotten a defective pair because mine are handling about 110 watts per channel . If you run them without an amp and at least 40 watts per channel, they don't sound as good . They like a little power.
