Its a tough job... but you did it great. Thanks a lot for this video. I have multiple versions of A Hard Day's Night and I will do a shootout for my copies. What I can remember from heart is that the German pressing (I have one one the blue and another one on the green Odeon label) are real stinkers. Very lifeless without much bass and heights. The German unmarked DMM pressing from 1984 (also on green Odeon) is a different beast. The bass is very strong and it's quite fun listening to it. I have also the 2012 versions which I like a lot and two UK pressing from 1981 and 1985. I guess the UK pressing are quite identical and I like their sound best. I also have an early French pressing with the different cover and it sound better to as the German ones but not as good as the 2012 or the UK pressing... never listened to the Dutch one but for A Hard Day's Night I guess,I have sufficient copies. BR from Munich
I have an early 80s stereo uk press. From what I read it’s identical to the 70s press you reviewed because it stayed in print for a few years. I can confirm it sounds fantastic! Bass doesn’t sound bloated and the guitars (especially in ‘and I love her’) sound very rich and detailed!
Hi will you be getting the beatles 60th anniversary white vinyl to make up your hdn collection only available in England you should be able to get it on the Internet
David if you want to hear a worse sounding pressing than the ones you have there. Try the hdn deagostini copy, according to my mate the sound keeps dropping out and the beatles sound as if there singing through a drain pipe. I don't know about that my copy is still shrink rapped
I'm digging what you're doing with these "shootouts." Are you going to be doing something similar with different pressings of the American albums? I remember as a kid borrowing The Early Beatles from the public library, most likely an early '80s pressing (classic black Capitol label with the rainbow rim) and how great it sounded, and then as an adult actually buying a vintage '60s copy and how....muddy it sounded. I'm not talking wear and tear from all those years of playing -- I'm talking just general overall mastering quality...and I'd love to hear someone's opinions on the various pressings -- black Capitol, purple Capitol, green Capitol, Apple, pressings on that really ugly snot-green label with the blinding purple logo, etc. so I know what to look out for when shopping for records.
I have all the German pressings from the 70’s as well as the UK ones. I find the With the Beatles and Hard Days Night German pressings are horrible. Beatles For Sale and Rubber Soul German are a wee bit better. The best German pressings are Please Please Me, Help! , Revolver, MMT, SGT. Pepper, White, Let it Be and Abbey Road.

I have been thinking about this for a long while...I just don't have all the USA pressings, but I DO have an opinion!
No uk original mono pressing of HDN?? So Sad that’s the collectors go to right?

There's a pattern with the LPs you mentioned and I agree... TO AN EXTENT! Stay tuned!
