As soon as they got to the theater the guys ditched the chicks and had their own date.
Exactly
Yes, for a weenie roast. It's on their list.
😂
Watch the movie with the chicks, then drop them off at their homes, then head up to a lake for an overnight fishing trip,
just like most guys do.
😆😆😆
Those boys were later voted, "Cutest Couple" in the yearbook.
It’s heartbreaking to see how happy and smiling boys look when they are with other boys (even without sexual interest) and what kind of unhappiness heteronormal social costructions create for them...
And yet they say being normal should be happy because what? Well because you are supposed to be “normal” so you should be happy 😅
When there is no sexual interest, men will always choose to meet with men to joke and talk, have fun, as well as getting together among women to enjoy good times. It is something very well known. On the other side, *straight dates are more shy because they don't want to do or say something that could be embarrassing for the opposite sex.* But between men and also between women they give free rein to fun and friendship. 😅
🙊🙈 *As a straight man I always enjoyed meeting men more since you can joke and do crazy things without any shame, make jokes of all kinds. However, when there are girls I must change my attitude so as not to make them dislike me or make them feel uncomfortable. There are no filters between boys... I guess something similar happens between girls.*
@@djfabio2749 self censure, filters, cautions, paying attention all the time at what you say and how to act.....I know, what a sad life, and for how long can you manage this? All that just to get married, than filters fall, your real You show up, the fighting start, and end up divorced, to pay a mortgage for her house, where she grew up your kids with your money...and spending it with some other guy....
so true!
Have you considered that "heteronormal constructions" are the reason why boys only feel comfortable around other boys? Maybe if our society wasn't so obsessed with maintaining a gender binary, boys would make less of a distinction between boys and girls in the first place, they would just be spending time with other children, teens, people?
1:33 The first date begins here.
1:54 "Timmy's so awesome, I hope he and I get to play with each other's (tennis) balls again."

That's clearly a bedroom they're entering.
the blurriness of old videos especially combined with music like this feels like an old memory it's so uniquely pleasant
Thank you! Glad it resonates with you :)
1:34 "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators ? "
"Only if they're in the hot tub together."
Do you ever hang out in a gymnasium?
Ever seen a grown man naked?
@@michaeldiaz9999 Other than myself, singly or multiples, and were they watching dirty movies at the time?
@@michaeldiaz9999 Surely, you're not serious.
I'm so jaded I can't watch footage or media from the 1950's without thinking about McCarthyism, The Lavender Scare, and the Civil Rights movement. There was so much injustice in the country at the time it's hard for me to enjoy the innocence of two boys falling in love.
There’s still injustice in this country (and everywhere else) and people will still continue falling in love
@@TomDavidMcCauley
I totally agree with you!
Greetings from Brazil 😊
Imagine being a young African-American boy or girl. You don't exist in the universe.
The whole world has been injustice for years. Still nowadays, but that wouldn't make people stop falling in love ❤️
@@TomDavidMcCauley YAS MAMA WEERRRRRRRRK
It is so good that, in the end, the two guys found each other.
Right? I notice the one guy checking out the other guy's tush @1:33
I hope I'm not too late for the "weenie roast."
Ha Ha That Tennis Duo made me think of "Wally Beaver" the sexual tension :)
Lol it’s there for sure
Yes indeeed.
Don't get me started.
I love when he looks at the high school calendar of events and the weenie roast entry, then looks up dreamily... "weenie, hee hee".
How interesting to see this is for me. Dr. Duvall's daughter Joy Duvall Johnson was my mentor in my Master's and PhD work. She often talked about the work her mother did in addressing the needs of families with adolescents but I was not aware that she had done films like this..
Wow! I love that
Small world! I wonder if she ever (knowingly) worked w/ gay kids.
@@Studio5LAif i’m not mistaken this video is an edit of a 10 minute film that did not address gay kids

Twinks learn about bromance during the 'Summer 'O Luvv' ❤
"Gee Wally you mean guys can date each other too?"
"Sure Beav, me and Eddie date all the time when Mom and Dad aren't home."
No twin beds for Wally and Eddie.
Very cool video, I like this one and all your others a lot. Thank you!
Thank you so much! ❤️
Just Subscribed. This is adorable!
Oh wow. Just looked up the NCFR and they seem like a great organisation! Kudos to them and their research work! Genuinely want to find the original video now!
I added a link to the description ❤️
@@TomDavidMcCauley aww thank you! Love your remix of it and the new soundtrack! Much appreciated!
Oh, man all of this was great! I can hardly wait for our society to return to normalcy 🎉
What's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah...barf.
I found the two guys in jackets at the movie theater ( 0.58 - 1:02 )a nice inclusion.
yes
@@crewby3 I wondered if "date" had a broader meaning in 1951 than it does today -- perhaps something that two friends do together rather than a form of courtship. As the youtube video Boys Beware (1961) shows, homosexuals were unfairly vilified as sexual predators back more than 60 years ago. I don't think the producers of this 1951 ad meant to support gay dating. (But I hope I am wrong about this!)
Well, they should have meant to support it
@@johngolden891 No, you're probably right. The "queer factor" didn't factor it at all, I'm sure....at least never in a nice way, alas. Thank God we've grown up.
@@Studio5LA I agree entirely. I was surprised how quickly SCOTUS went from overturning sodomy laws (Lawerence) to upholding gay marriage throughout the US (Obergefell). We are having some pushback presently but the long trend is toward greater freedom for LGBTQ+ people. And, everyone should have the right to live their lives as the person whom they truly are.
Love the music 🎶
Thank you!!!
the music!!!
Thank u 😊
Delightful, thank you for posting 🙂
You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks ❤
UA-cam recommended this to me because I'm gay, but where is gay?
There’s one in Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. There are also at least three places in Russia named Gay
@@TomDavidMcCauleyhahaha I see what u did there! Clever…I like clever! 😜
I know a gay guy. He's from Chicago. Do you know him ?
On the cutting room floor.
To be fair... One of the guys did look happier after he saw the word weiner...
And the two guys going into the bedroom at the end looked happy, too.
Nice! Enjoyed the mix of music and video!
That's naughty.. I've seen the original
You’re welcome 😇
I like the music.
Thank you! Plenty more where that came from ❤️
How wholesome.
Clearly, a "date" to the promoters of this video just meant an activity. I think this was the understanding in the earlier part of the 20th century, as in prior to 1920 or so. Why they're using a context that was outdated (no pun) by 1951 is questionable. Maybe it was seen as an opposing effort against the rising sexuality of the youth culture that was in full swing.
Yeah that’s probably it
Why does this Couple ❤ keep inviting those girls on THEIR dates? Lol 😂
Girls are hot
@@TomDavidMcCauley I beg to differ lol but most the comments appear to think those lads are Gay
Thanx for sharing it with us
@@AZ-so2wc You’re welcome. Thanks for watching! Maybe the dudes are bi. Different folks for different folks ❤
Not sure about thus project but this it's one of those once in a while channels/videos that you come across and you're left... "Wow!!"
Love the beat the vintage images and edition
What was your inspiration for the music, is originally yours?
Give my subscription gladly!
Thank you! Yeah I wrote the song a few weeks ago, thought it was pretty catchy, and set it to a video that I edited from an old educational film on dating for young folks. As I was editing, a story started to imply itself, and I just headed in that direction.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you again for your kind words 💗
Edit: as far as inspiration, I just wanted to write a song where I played around with the structure (i.e., repeating things three or six times instead of the usual four or eight) within a pop context. So I messed around with that idea for a few minutes and came up with the main riff. Then I improvised a lead line on top of that. I’ve played guitar 25 years so that all came together in about half an hour. I’m relatively new to the drums, however, so it took like a week of trying and continually failing to get the beat right lol. I’m grateful to have stuck with it though, because the video seems to be connecting with people, and it has totally reinvigorated and re-inspired me to make music again after a long fallow period of lacking access to a workable recording setup.

I kindly appreciate your response, input and time
Kinda thought that the video would be like a documentary about something but never expected that
Very clever title was what made me tap on it
Definitively you need to make more music, share it to the world and that's the true, this and all your videos will be viewed anywhere in the world, (I'm in Canada) and that, I believe will be a satisfaction to be proud of, that you will be connecting with people across the miles, cultures and languages
Great job!!
And thanks again for the kind response
Who’s dating who?
Some people prefer the company of the same sex more than the opposite. Its been around since the beginning of time.

Can I do my Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority imitation ? Okay ? Here goes...

Tom, *please* leave the video in it's original aspect ratio next time 😭
The framings all janky and cuts off the top of their heads and the video loses quality when cropped
I’ll try but Idk how to do that

That seems so foreign. The dating scene today is nothing like that...lols
Well, they say that”the past is another country “
I met a man recently, I'm 28 years old. He is romantic, likes taking long walks with me while he looks at me like he is in love, he says as long as he is spending time with me, we dont need any expensive dates, just being next to each other is enough. I patiently waited and got my price.

Quite a few people these days tend to look at close platonic friendships between two people of the same gender with suspicion.
On the one hand are some homophobes who go out of their way to verbally or sometimes physically abuse people that they might suspect; and on the other end of the spectrum are some BL, slash fic-loving people (generally some straight women) who romanticise two best friends "falling in love," when it might not be the case always.
Think of all the times two best friends were teased about being lovers. While most make fun of the situation in a light-hearted way, there are a few who take it seriously and seem extremely intolerant whether or not there actually exists a romantic element.
