Unpopular opinion but I actually loved this machine 😂 The butterfly keyboard although depressingly unreliable was extremely precise when it worked and you were essentially carrying around a macOS iPad with this thing.
What exactly does "extremely precise" mean here?

@@megatronskneecap precise means repetition produces the same results. Most keyboards that aren't broken do this. I can't remember the last time I used a keyboard that would intermittently not output a pressed key. So, I ask, what makes this more precise than any other MacBook keyboard?
@@jammies701 I know what it means thanks. After all, I am a native speaker of the English language. It's precise doesn't mean something produces the same results, it means it's spot on. Because it's so low-profile your fingers just glide over the keys meaning you can hit every key, easily everytime without fail. There are most certainly keyboards that can't achieve this hence my comment. Not a hard concept.

Honestly for students this kinda laptop seems like a very very good concept but carried out poorly...

honestly the 2016-2020 thin intel macbooks era sucked so much, they overheated, barely any ports + very overpriced
I would stop carrying my Macbook Pro and IPad to class if this 12 inch MacBook had better battery life and performance, it's just so good for portability

@@tjadejoh ye for the overheating and pricing I agree but they switched to usb c way too early and the butterfly keyboard and touchbar sucked
I bought mine in 2018 and I still use it daily. I’m currently using it for university. Ventura made it sluggish and glitchy at times and the battery isn’t what it used to be but despite all that I absolutely love this machine
If it was release nowadays as "budget" option for like, U$ 849 with an M2, 2 USBs-C and a good keyboard it would have good sales
This form factor, M4 chip, and a price tag of 799 or 899 to distinguish it from the air, would be such a big win for them
I'm sad how they killed off not just this, but also the older design of MB Air after M1. I got one in Rose gold and absolutely love it. The newer Pro like design makes it feel just like a Pro but slightly slimmer.
I have to be honest, when this MacBook came out I really wanted one so badly, as impractical as it was

Would definitely buy an M-chip based refresh of this laptop. Probably the best looking MacBook Apple ever released. It just look turbo awesome.
I purchased an i5, 16GB/512GB one of these in space grey last year and on Ventura it really still does well! You can keep opening programs with the 16GB RAM version and it keeps going! I just love the design so much and it’s a great travel companion for when I don’t need my 14” Pro
Still my favorite Apple computer ever made. Was the closest we've ever gotten to MacOS on an iPad. Imagine with Apple Silicone now. I really wish they'd bring this back!
Still have one. The form factor is incredible 10 years later, but yeah it’s a slug to use for most things. and I have the 2017 “i5” version

This Macbook was the most dumbass thing in the computer history, one USB C?!?!? Seriously?!?!? Incredible how during the presentation they justified the wicked choice

@@獨孤求成 Adaptors are temporary patches, why only one port? It was too hard to add one more? There was enough space for 2 ports, no excuses.
@@alfredomegelo3573 I check my MacBook, there is only enough space for 1 USB-C on the left side. If the 3.5mm audio output on the right side changes to USB-C, your idea may be possible.

Something like this today would be great! I feel like they would either take the M1 Air, throw the M4 or whatever the latest at the time is inside, and sell it for under $1,000. The M1 Air is available at Walmart for $650 and that’s like the perfect price. At my school it feels like 50% of people who bring their own laptops have MacBooks, most of them being the M1 Air. It’d sell amazingly! Should call it MacBook SE.
Was super close to buying a 2015 MacBook, but the single USB-C port (back when USB-C wasn’t widespread) and that high price held me back. If it had more ports and a lower price, it would've been a huge hit. The idea was great, but the design was too limiting and impractical for its time. Apple’s usual build quality at a more reasonable price would’ve made it a perfect choice.
I wanted one of these so badly. I remember how it they used to call it the MacBook Adorables on Cortex.

no security updates and out of date software love it just put linux on it and all those issues shall be fixed however older intel I gpus have issues with linux!
I really love that portability, even if it's m1 with those dimensions, would sell like never before

Ambition in few cases can be mistaken for stupid.
I wouldn't even need the M4 in that. M2 or at max the M3 basic would fit just fine for usability and could also reduce the price slightly more. would deffo buy ans wanted back then. but decided in 2018 to go with the years MacBook Pro 13inch with 8GB Ram and 512GB SSD storage (for the ports, but today i would say one or even two ports would be enough for me cuz i got a mobile dock and a stationary one anyway)

My mom’s pink one had a T key go bad. A few months later the SSD nuked itself. Both were common issues with this laptop so buyer beware
Good point! Yeah I might just downgrade this to Windows and use it via Bootcamp as I don’t have a Windows device on me at the moment
they coud've made it a bit thinner, also thinner bezels, replace the 3.5mm jack with another type c and build it on m4 so it could be presented as the new Air. which may be cheaper than the current one. and I'd buy it cause that's enought for me.
current Air could get a 3rd type c port near to 3.5mm jack and a better screen, which could promote it to just "MacBook" w/o "Air"
I bought one in the summer of 2015 and loved it. Performance was fine with little if any hiccups running typical productivity software. Only true complaint was the keyboard, not a great typing experience for me. Tho the web cam was terrible
I agree! Even on OS X Yosemite, the performance isn’t bad at all. It’s just very noticeably slow when using apps like Chrome, but that’s expected since its 10+ year old software haha
I bet if you took it to a repair shop, it would still be useful for like 6 more years

I doubt Apple would make this anymore bc they have the iPad which can become sort of a laptop replacement. 11 inch iPad Air with keyboard case is what replaced this.

I had base model from 2016 with Intel M3, 8GBs of ram and 256GB SSD. I shit you not it ran identically to my A1342 Unibody MacBook from 2009.

the 2016-2020 slim intel macbooks were awful and almost killed the macbook in being a reccomendable laptop
they were extremely overpriced, they overheated A LOT, only had usb c and were quite underpowered when compared to competition

I think the only reason this MacBook exists is for apple to get rid of their stock of intel processors before announcing their new Apple silicon and of course beautifully designed

does it run youtube right? and compressed 4k movies on vlc? can it record videos on quicktime with an external camera/iphone?. I kinda want one for those basic tasks, to watch media and lyrics to songs connected via usb c to hdmi on my tv. And to study/emails without destroying my back with the 16 inch I have lol.
The concept doesn't seem bad enough, the price however...
i would literally pay 1500€ for an M4 MacBook, ditch the headphone jack and add an extra usb-c port
