- Lawrence Fishburne recites E.E. Cumming's "Freedom Is a Breakfast Food" on Craig Ferguson 5-13-09
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
-time is a tree (this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and i am for you
just so long and long enough
Omg, I didn't know that I needed Lawrence Fishburne reciting poetry to me.
I just love how the host Ferguson is looking at Larry; such rapt attention. Its a wonderful thing!!
I know they are on a tv program, thus quite contrived, yet it is just such a sublime moment. The kind we could wish we had given to a really wonderful teacher, who was sharing something really sublime with us.🖤😍👁😊❤
Much love to Mr.Fishburne. What other actor has the gall to recite poetry on tv
this was my favorite scene in the matrix trilogy.
😀You're funny!😉 "Matrix Trilogy" If only they had incorporated that poem? It would have been so wonderful!!
"and hornets wail by children stung" ... but a brilliant recitation by Mr Fishburne! Grateful to begin my day by seeing this video!
beautiful. this is only the second ee Cummings poem i"ve ever heard and I loved them at first" sight". must read more of his word in depth and Mr. Fishburne is a consummate actor. deeds cannot dream what dreams can do.
as freedom is a breakfastfood
or truth can live with right and wrong
or molehills are from mountains made
-long enough and just so long
will being pay the rent of seem
and genius please the talentgang
and water most encourage flame
as hatracks into peachtrees grow
or hopes dance best on bald men’s hair
and every finger is a toe
and any courage is a fear
-long enough and just so long
will the impure think all things pure
and hornets wail by children stung
or as the seeing are the blind
and robins never welcome spring
nor flatfolk prove their world is round
nor dingsters die at break of dong
and common’s rare and millstones float
-long enough and just so long
tomorrow will not be too late
worms are the words but joy’s the voice
down shall go which and up come who
breasts will be breasts thighs will be thighs
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
-time is a tree(this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and i am for you
just so long and long enough
TY!
Thanks for submitting this. It is a hard poem to get on first bounce. But it is quite beautiful in the end.
Lovely. He had a few hiccups, particularly the last line, which he reversed in order, should have read: "just so long and long enough"
You GO, Lawrence! ee is one of my favorite poets.
leave it to craig to have such a class act on his show.....two of my favorite people.
craig and EECummings.
0:35 isn't it "and hornets wail by children stung"? He said "robins wail"
Correct, sir!
He said it so well. Except for the last part he got it round the wrong way. "Long enough and just so long". The order is meant to change for the last one to, just so long and long enough. I think that line makes the whole poem.
Yeah is it just me or did he forget some lines?
YAY!! I love E.E. Cummings. :)
not with those periods and capital letters you don't!
"All over your ivy league suit."
Magical poem… very jealous…. Not unlike
God kept his oath to sparrows, who of little love, know how to starve
Keep… oops…
I don't what this poem is about, it is ridiculous but Mr. Fishburne recited the hell out of this, more actors should do this.
The great Lawrence Fishbourne and a host trying to be funny.🙄
greatest comment ever
He would make a good' narrator
I needed this. Thanks
A terrible reading
Hey. Whatever exposes people to good poetry is worthwhile.
Unity for Assange
Haha
