You are doing well for Electrification and Tourism in Norway. I love it, looks like I will have to visit the Land of The ViKings.

We appreciate you taking these trips for multiple reasons. It's nice to see a couple out enjoying themselves. We feel so humbled you showing us your beautiful country.
And lastly, it's nice to see as the technology improves you taking the time to test the cars that many of us are considering purchasing. What I get from a lot of the videos is how the charging network and the support for it needs to improve. I also get a chance to see that in most of these EVs you actually can go on extended vacations and long road trips with a little planning.
I must also point out that a company like Tesla is in a league by itself on many levels but more importantly as it relates to their charging network. While some won't agree with me I feel as though they have set the bar and are a benchmark as to what a EV could or should be. They're not perfect but when stacked up car for car, company for company they seem to be ahead of everyone else at this point.

09:37 I have the new Zoe and I can charge at 230V in Germany. I have the renault charging brick (230V 10A) from my old Zoe, and I can use any household plug to charge the car. It's nothing like the one that guy is using there, it's just as big as the one from VW, maybe a tad smaller.

Another excellent "down to earth" travelogue. I thought the cape tourist centre was very interesting, and wondered why the extensive tribute to the King of Siam in that place. I am impressed with the availability of high speed chargers throughout Norway even remote places. Here in Australia we suffer the "tyranny of distance" so with a very large land mass and only 25M people spread mostly around the Eastern coast, infrastructure is a struggle. EV take-up is slow (I have recently joined with an EQA) but I think the real issue might be the small number of charge ports outside the busy highway centres. So there might be just a single charger in the town and it may have a CCS and ChaDeMo, so if the CCS is Our Of Service, we might have to use a 240V socket with a lengthy stay.

4:15 This is a common problem of the ABB HPCs. I had the same problem on some chargers from Fastned.
It's the cooling system for the cable which is not working. Normally you hear a howling noise from the coolant pump when you are charging.

    • @automatix5
      @automatix5 3 роки тому

@@abraxastulammo9940 This happens mostly on chargers with plugs from Huber+Suhner (ABB, EVBox and Porsche/ads-tec).
The uncooled cables can only deliver 400A, for full speed on Model 3 and some BMW cars you need 500A.

You should go to Svalbard sometime ... flight from Tromsø or Oslo. Not sure you can get an EV up there though. Might want to do that in summer ... or fall or spring time.

Oops. I've been to the North Cape twice, and didn't pay either time.... First time was by bicycle though, and the second was late at night in December 2020 after the place was closed (drove to the globe too!).
Ishavsveien chargers were ace, used them in Alta, Máze, Karasjok, Olderfjord and Honningsvåg. And with the chargers I didn't use and the chargers added in the last ~7 months EV driving in the far north of Norway is almost trivial, even in actual winter, probably easier than the north of England where I live in summer.

11:31 Assuming 4 columns with 5 holes each and 3 columns with 4 holes each you would have 32 holes total.
32^2 = 1.024 possible combinations wich is the same as 2^10.
    So 10 bits or
2 and a half nibble or
    1 and a quarter byte

Ucase don't transform from 230V to 400V. It's only make a TN network. It's insulation transformer. That is grounding all phases to ground. IT network is not grounded on phase only on ground wire. Ucase make N leader to be 0V and L1 is 230V alone as standard in all other country in the world.

Looks like the cable cooling failed at the HPC in Olderfjord. When you started the shot I wondered by the annoying high pitch cooling pump sound was missing.
As far as I know the entrance to North cape was free some time for EVs. Have been to north cape in 2018 and 2019, both times with an EV and didn't had to pay anything.

It would be good to learn how the chargers are set up. 3 phase? 2 phase? North America has 2 phase - Asia had 3 phase. If it is 3 phase, there are 5 cables. 1 for each phase, 1 for neutral and 1 earth connector, which is then combined for the charging cable, and the car then rectifies the 3 phase to DC for the battery. Would be good to discuss.

Amazing landscape, and still reliable fast charging in this area! Because I'm picky, too, I still have some little criticism about the HPC locations. In my opinion, it is best if there was only one type of charger, and the same price across all chargers in one location, and the outlets should be load balanced among each other. As the locations are set up in the video, with one HPC and on 50 kW charger, some people might get it wrong and plug their e-Up into the HPC, and then a Taycan arrives and we have arguments. I like the Tesla SuC V3 and the Kempower concept: One charger has 4 or more technically identical outlets, and they are load balanced, and because the outlet itself isn't too expensive, you can have more of them so nobody gets annoyed even if a slow charging or nearly full car hogs one of them. And for smaller locations, I think the Alpitronic Hypercharger will do with 2 load balanced outlets. But OK - these are first world problems...
