Alex Smith had something like 7 or 8 different OC’s in his first 7 or 8 years. It was sad that he came into a Niner organization with unstable leadership. Good player, teammate, & 49er.
People always say Purdy is only good because of his weapons. Well if Aiyuk caught both those drops, and Juice doesn’t fall down on that catch at the 5 Brock would’ve finished with 280-300 yards and 2 TDs. It’s such a relief to have a QB who is so smart and accurate. Been 20 years since we’ve had a guy like Brock
Purdy is the most under-rated QB in the NFL. He checks off all the boxes. He been in 2 NFC Playoffs championships and played in a SB. But still the NFL ranks other QBS over him who have never played in a Superbowl or Championship games. It' a damn shame.
They keep discrediting Purdy because he's on the 49ers. I heard one dude say that Purdy would be dog shit on another team. I mean, you can say that about any QB, lol. Put any QB on a team with a bad O-Line and no defense and see how he performs. That's why I don't understand why some people trash Zach Wilson and Daniel Jones so much. We really don't know how good they are because their teams are bad. In my opinion, the only way you can trash a QB is if that QB makes the team worse with poor decision making. Purdy has done the opposite. The 49ers are way better with him than without him.
Always loved Alex Smith man. His play was frustrating until it wasn't and he finally had the right situation he deserved, but ultimately he's also a great person. Took everything in stride and roughed it out with us and I still feel bad for him. But to see him have no ill will towards the Niners even years later is admirable.
Krueg, you're right that a lot of QBs take a long time to develop, but I feel like this league is way different than it was in the 1990s and 2000s in terms of how long a franchise is willing to invest in a QB who is underperforming. Even when Alex was drafted in 2005, it wasn't as make or break as it is now or even 10 years ago. I feel like young QBs coming into this league now have a greater expectation for immediate success and a shorter leash. Most of them who aren't immediately successful (or at least flash some high-end talent) get recycled and then go somewhere as a backup, where they don't get a lot of real snaps and never develop into legitimate starters. For every one 1st round guy like Geno Smith who revitalizes his career, there seems to be twenty guys like EJ Manuel, Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, and Carson Wentz.
Yeah... Larry talks about all these guys like they were trash early on but almost all the examples he uses are from over 30 years ago. Alex was ok early on and above average later but I would never say he was one of the better qbs in the league. Baker is the only one I can think of in recent but he showed some high level ability early on as well. Also Steve young is a terrible example. He played for an absolute joke of a franchise in Tampa... We are talking about some the all time worst teams in NFL history... At a time when defense was king they never gave up less than 20 pts, they were last and second to last in defense the 2 years young was there.
Alex Smith is very smart and knows what he is talking about. I truly believe if Norv stayed with him for 4-5 years he would have been one of the top 5 qb's in the league.
Fun fact Brock been starting in big games since high school a freshman at Iowa state that started all 4 years he’s more mature then you give him credit for that why Kyle trust him
I’ve been a 9er fan since the Brodie, Washington, Willard, JD Crow, Kezar days…I always respected Alex Smith..he presevered under some pretty adverse conditions…playing behind marginal offensive lines, having 6-7 different coordinators and offensive schemes…and 4 or 5 different HCs..he never bitched, he just went out and did what he had to do…regardless of what the fans or press in the Bay Area said, Alex played and got better….too bad Harbaugh decided to go with Sackorpick instead of Alex…I believe things would have been different if Alex stayed the starter…as far as. Rock…230#..??…I dont think so…215-220…tops
This is why I always hated the dumb chip on Aaron Rodgers shoulder. If he was drafted to the same situation as Alex, he would've failed and probably never won a Superbowl.
Actually, I can’t call Samantha bust. I always felt sorry for him because he didn’t have a good sport and craft rotten evening. You might have one good office of lineman, the most amount that good

Haven’t been this confident in a qb since Steve young.
How DARE you defame Jeff Garcia?!?
@@lawnbear5958 so you’d take Garcia over purdy? He had his great moments but I don’t remember us doing much in the playoffs with those teams
When he lets go of the ball, I don’t have the same gut wrenching feeling that it might be an interception the way I did with Garoppolo and Kaepernick.

Who cares they always wrong about everything. They are gifted 😀
@@jazzfox5531that is because they didn't watch him in Iowa and highschool he was always accurate before he got to the niners

Love the pod krueg
Fck the rankings! Let them keep under estimating him!!! That’s good‼️ He’ll quietly DISPROVE EVERY CRITICISM said about him.
a new generation. facing down the rush like Caitlan shooting a 3 pointer before being badly fouled
Exactly...A lot of QB sucks when they started. Like you said, very few QB starts off running.

Steve Young and Jeff Garcia were the last 2 good qbs we had!

QBs that start out of college was never the norm.

What does Superman and Brock Purdy have in common? They both have 🍒 of steel.
Do you need a gooder speller for writing tidals for your podcast. Everyone knows that they spelled Couragiss wrong.
49ers organization did Alex Smith wrong.
Larry, Trey Lance is a bust
Doing a lot of dancing to prove a narrative.
Purdy excels in a number on "non-quantifiable" skill areas.

I love your content Krueg but damn you’ve got arrogant since you got the Brock deal right
