Devindra, for the love of god, can you exercise some self control and cool it with the constant interruptions? Have mercy on those of us who dial in primarily to hear from Dave and Jeff. You totally killed this discussion. Normally I wouldn't care to comment but I was looking forward to this one.
Man, my favorite director and I wasn't vibing with this one. Ended up watching Le Samurai for the first time a few days later and absolutely enjoyed that one. Hopefully I'll get more on board with it during a rewatch at some point.
I found it unbearable--except for the opening credits, the scene with Swinton and the death-match with the bodybuilder. I totally get what David is saying, that this tries to be grounded but falls short, unlike John Wick which is utter fantasy. And I still don't get WHY The Killer misses the shot in the first act, in such an elementary scenario. But I guess that was intentional, so I'm SOL.
Another podcast mentioned that he is sleep deprivated, the watch wakes him up every hour, he mentions that "fact" in his opening scene, he is also very very bored from a prolonged waiting, 36 hours more than usual, which made him very exhausted, he might have been perfect until that shot, but things happen, you lose your touch and mess up.
I never knew most of the scenes involving Fassbender in vehicles were green screen and rear projections because of the realistic lighting. I also noticed that aside from using sitcom character names as aliases, he dresses similar to Gilligan from Gilligan's Island.
You seem to be overwhelmed with who the director is and not how good the movie is. This is truly a style over substance movie with the lead being the most boring character...and that is ALL on the director in thus case...
For my money, Fincher has been on his A game from Gone Girl (2014) through to now. If you guys think this is a step up from what he’s done for the past decade… hoo boy, I feel like I’m in for a treat!
From my perspective the Sigma came about when Alpha Male grifters started having to answer the question "Hey if you're an Alpha male, why don't you have a girlfriend", to which they responded "It's because we're actually way cooler than that, you don't even know"
From my first viewing I felt the same, but as I let go of my expectations (which ruin everything in life) I loved the movie after watching it the second time for what it is, a greatly shot story with amazing sound design, cinematography, acting. This is the only movie that stayed in my mind after watching this year, that is a connection, which is what I love about Fincher, he knows what people love, even if at first we think we don't. We get bored with the killer, we get our heart racing, we get confused and we get our pulse racing...this movie is very very good even if not the best of Fincher.

Really did not expect the Filmcast guys vibing so much with this underwhelming movie....

This movie was extremely underwhelming especially compared to his previous movies
