- Four vintage Victorian Railways EMD locos on a wheat train bound for Geelong , taken at Creswick , Warrenheip Bank, Lal Lal and Lethbridge on the 2nd of March 1987. A must see for the EMD fan .
Sensational 👏👏👏👏. Some of the best music in the world is a quartet of EMDs in notch 8 pulling a big load like that in the opening of this video! Great film recording!
Thanks , yes they had a sound of their own ,
I used to live about 10k's away from Warrenheip bank and on a still day I could hear the whole drama of their climb out past Ballarat. Music to my ears.
Back in 1965 we used to camp on Warrenheip bank in tents , didn't get much sleep
@@johnphillips592 You were keen!
@@johnhaller7017 Yes , young and not very smart but there were steam bankers
Bring back good old memories of my childhood days. We used to love watching these locomotives go by the farm.
That's great , glad they brought back some fond memories
EMD streamliners in blue & yellow coupled with orange & grey… staff exchanging… semaphores… telegraph lines… these videos are a delight to watch.
And 35 years later SSR are still using the same power. Incredible.
When your on a good thing stick to it .
@@johnphillips592 Thanks John and yes, that was my point. 60ish year old equipment still going strong is amazing.
@@ajo3085 70 by now, the B class are 71 years old and I'm sure the T and S classes will live on in revenue service long enough to reach that age
30 years later now and sometimes it is still possible to see such motive power on these trains, while the lovely stations have gone.
Lethbridge is actually still there and you can access the platform. It’s a great shoot to see trains
Creswick is still there too, it's just not used anymore, replaced by a generic, utilitarian structure opposite. Lal Lal station is also still there.
And what a lovely VR station was Creswick.
These 'vintage' diesels look better then modern ones
100%👏👏👏👍😀
Love that sound
Another great video of a good old VR wheat train
Thanks . glad you enjoyed it .
Really growling up Warrenheip and no graffiti!
They were working hard that's for sure , thanks for the comment .
Looks like a lot of token sections along the way, none dropped either! I seen S300 sitting in the CFCLA paddock laid up in Goulburn NSW last year. Someone said it had been sold around the same time as S311. Be a shame if the class leader S300 isn't secured and preserved before the scrap metal people get it. Dave
Yep, our good broad gauge locos on bloody broad gauge - the way it is supposed to be.
I love that "Cat-Dog" (double-cab) with the 1940's Santa Fe Cat Whisker paint scheme.
Awesome video!
Awesome video 😁👍
Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩😀
Thank you Mugni RK glad you enjoyed it
That station looks identical to so many typical stations in England.
We have a lot of Blue stone stations still around from the original construction days no doubt based on UK stations
Geelong-Ballarat railway was built to English main line standards, with double track throughout and impressive bluestone structures.
Old video this train👍👍 like this
1:38 steam rail owns t365 now cool to see it in action in this footage
Steamrail has T364 (356 & 395 as well)
Awesome . . .
Thanks!
I lived along the B&O metropolitan branch line I loved this equipment and wanted to be a engineer
Nothing like the streamline locos , still some around in freight service
S300, B65, T369, T362
So that’s what those wagons look like without graffiti...
0:22 that RVB actually sounds pretty nice
They had a good chant back then
i've been watching some of your videos. they seem to be from 8mm film. have you been using the device called wolverine or similar, or are you recording from a projected image?
This footage was shot on Sony Umatic video tape , most of my tapes are either Umatic or Betacam SP video , later footage is shot on Sony digital tape or HD video , thanks for your comments .
Superb😊
Thanks for the comment , glad you enjoyed it
I do believe that's called Notch 8
That's ABSOLUTELY correct!
Does notch 8 mean full power?
@@2flyabove yep! It sure enough does!
Classic
I like it.
Anybody know what percent grade was at the beginning? Looked steep! Maybe it was a trick of the camera angle?
Hello , the grade up to Creswick is 1 in 45
@@johnphillips592 .5%?

WOW! THAT WAS TOTALLY FANTASTIC! If only these CLASSIC EMD LOCOMOTIVES were still in regular service! The better question is are any still in regular service?!
Southern Short haul Railway still have some in regular freight service
S312 (seen in the video) is still in regular traffic with SSR, B65( double ended streamliner) is now in storage at Bendigo workshops
Nice
No sound like the old emd's
