On my "New Servo" video people asked to see the actual fitting process, so this time around I've included that, feel free to skip past to get to the review.
Hahah, I sort of though about the same thing. I was all "something like this would be so useful, I can't believe such a thing doesn't already exists!!!" And a little part of my brain was "Hey, haven't we scrolled past something that looks a little like that about a million times?"
Do fountain pens work ok if you draw lines in the direction they're pointing? I (perhaps incorrectly) remember from school in the 70s, if I did this, the nib would get stuck and splat ink everywhere. Is this a problem using them with the plotter?
Not really a problem with fountain pens now, they tend to have a little, ummmmm, 'rounded nub' just under the tip that allows them to move in most directions. I do have a couple of sharp pointy nips though, but in that case you can order the lines in the SVG file to all go in a downwards direction, breaking them up if you needed.
I've been eying the magnetic easel when I realized that I can order a magnetic message board (basically just a sheet of steel) for about $17 and a pack of small strong magnets. So I got those, and...well, it works. I do have the sheet marked out on the table just in case it moves, but I can always replot the grid.
Yeah, I've been using a mild steel sheet with magnets which was pretty cheap, but annoyingly it came off a large roller so it has a little curve. I figured I could business expense this 😁

...and to think I was about to design and 3d print something like this for the same reason. Excellent, saved me some time!
