I liked that you explained technical stuff for example the 4 stages or levels of wetness and how to deal with it during the painting process :) By the way you can follow my @gatidibujos in Instagram if you like cats and illustration ;)
Great demonstration! When you were painting around the river, I was very tense, almost holding my breath, and then you said it was stressful for you to paint like that and that you get quite tired afterwards. I felt validated, knowing I’m not the only one who experiences that kind of stress while painting. You are a wonderful teacher and artist.
thank you , principles are exactly what i needed. i watched a lot of videos about wet on wet , but you are the only one who gave me any idea of the time frame in which i should be applying the technique. (i had no idea of it ). i also never considered that drying paper was thirstier than wet paper , or the effect of having more water on my brush than on the painting .... i feel like i can now at least start diagnosing my mistakes instead of just staring at them .. thank you again for your calm explanation of things i did not know enough about to even ask
As an oil painter, watercolor is such a mystery to me! I think it’s the surrender to the medium that’s necessary that I find so difficult. It does what it does and you have to accept the results, or find a way to manipulate it. I really enjoy watching your video and definitely learned something!
Dennis Tyson Plein Air thank you! I used to paint with oil and acrylic paint and then digital. Now watercolor, does take sometime to get use to, but I am familiar with it, it’s a very freeing experience :)
@Yasmine S. It seems to me with watercolors you almost need to paint in reverse. Instead of putting the snow on top of a pine tree, you leave the area white where the snow will be later, and paint around it with the darker colors of the tree. Why must I always pick the most difficult way to do things? I don't know, but the idea of my brain trying to figure out how to do this intrigues me.
I know this is 2 years old already, but the way you explained and showed different wetness stages REALLY helped me understand. I was able to watch your painting and understand why and how you were choosing the paint mixtures, your timing, and the paint consistency! I'm kinda blown away as I've not seen someone explain wet on wet this way, so thank you!
Thank you so much for your calm explaination and demonstration! I have never had a real-life art teacher, and drawing along with your videos helps a lot!
Thank you for taking the time to explain things. I am like a sponge just soaking it all in. This landscape gives you a sense of vastness and beauty. You make it look so easy. Thanks once again.
It was SO relaxing to hear the water flowing while you explained your steps and techniques. Your voice is also soothing. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Eric are you planning on modifying your Subscription plan on your Lessons? Reason I ask is I know myself I learn in Small Steps and it would be more affordable for me. The Price is More than fair in my Opinion. Thanks.
Thank you for the way in which you taught this video, with practical application, showing, not just telling, including the way you were mixing paints as you were painting, adding detail to the washes as you were painting. I will definitely practice this tutorial. It answered so many questions. I have been using too much water and too much paint. When I mix colors ahead of time they seem to dry by the time I'm ready to use them and I waste more paint by in between rinsing. The way you did this was so real time refreshing and efficient. Subscribed! I look forward to learning more from you.
Brilliant! This is one of the best videos on this topic! I like the teaching techniques, very organized and explicitly explained. The demonstration is also captivating. Thank you so much!
I’m very much a beginner. All your videos are very helpful. From this one, I learned about the importance of knowing what you want to show and use darker color to creat shadow and structure. Thanks for doing these technique videos.
Thanks once again for a great tutorial....I like your idea of displaying your reference photo in oone corner...so we get to know what exactly you are painting...the tip on cause of back runs and how to avoid is v useful and a great revelation for me...
You are an excellent instructor. I am getting back into watercolor and have been mucking around; very frustrating. But your courses are helping me get some focus and teaching and reminding me of helpful techniques. Thank you!
Have always avoided watercolour as too difficult to make a good painting. So interesting to learn the insider principles and then see you using a real painting to illustrate that principle ... I feel encouraged to have a try now..Thank you
Thank you so much!!! It’s amazing how you share your talent with us all. Explaining these techniques the way you do helps incredibly. I’m very grateful to you! ❤️
Thank you. Painted in watercolour before but haven't really done that much wet into wet. This was helpful. One thing I very much like is not painting everything I see....but so tempted to do so. Have a nice day!
Eric, I really appreciate the patience and kindness that you speak with. You are easy to listen to and I have started putting your videos up while I paint, even if I am not doing the same thing because I always pick something up you said that I can use in whatever I am doing - even though I mostly screw it up! Your slight misuse of the English language is also endearing and makes it like I am listening to a friend. Don't stop your videos..! Question: I seem to be hopping from here to there, with no real plan to teach myself any of this. Can you recommend a set of lessons to follow OR do YOU have a set of videos that I can follow along that is good for a beginner? Tanks (haa haa). Kym
Thank you for explaining the technique with such clarity and giving such useful tips essential for improving watercolor skills. An excellent tutorial which beginners like me will find beneficial in improving our painting skills.
Hi Eric. Thank you very much for your generosity. I have downloaded your ebook, which is excellent and extremely helpful. I will enjoy putting you tips into action. Kind regards.
I just discovered your work this week. After hundreds of hours of studying I can honestly say you give the best tips. You're articulate and detailed in explaining. I am grateful to all who teach me so a special thanks Eric. I appreciate it. I will continue to enjoy your videos.
The steps you ask to follow a water colour artist....a beginner.....are sincerely put! 👍👍👍👌👌👌😊😊😊 And I sincerly like your attitude or rather your approach!!!😊😊😊
thank you! your explanations are wonserful. I am just starting with painting in this medium, and I am just dedicatedly follwing your advice and teachings, and i dont feel like i am missing out on anything.
Thank you so much Eric. I have just started watercolor and I am so glad I found your video. I am sure it will help me eliminate my cauliflower edges and mud! Also, I loved watching you paint but I am not ready to try that yet!
I get worked up regarding the tone and especially the colour of shadows. Do you have a video on cast shadows. For example when say a boat hull casts a shadow on sand will the shadow cast be a darker and cooler shade of the sand or a grey tree trunks shadow on grass would be a darker shade of grass colour?? Etc thanks for the great videos I have just found on this channel. Regards Andy
Hey! Colourtheory is very important for this issue! Having your colour which is used for the non shaded part and then add to that the complimentary colour, this mostly gets the trick done. Thinking about warmer and cooler colours also is important. Looking into that and then experimenting is inportant. Hope i could explain a little :)
Eric, I really enjoy your video. You are a great teacher. I love the way you present materials in a simple, easy to understand manner. Thanks you so much.
Which tip is most useful for you? Any other question? Let me know!

Great tutorial. I liked the way you explained everything first and then showed us how to put it into practice.
Yasmine S. Interesting. I actually never used gouache aside from painting some small highlights and such. :)
I liked that you explained technical stuff for example the 4 stages or levels of wetness and how to deal with it during the painting process :) By the way you can follow my @gatidibujos in Instagram if you like cats and illustration ;)
Don't go on autopilot!! Great advice I tend to follow my pencil lines to much :)
I like your calming way of speaking...gently guiding us to a better understanding of watercolor characteristics.
I like it too!! Calming
I agree!

You are so right. Knowing someone else shares that experience makes us feel less alone.
My artist tutor called it 'living dangerously'!
Yes.. You are a Great Artist 🙏
Beautiful paint!
"adding more details breaks the scale"
You talk the talk and paint the paint. Awesome.
For me, the most important tip was your warning about re-wetting making it less fresh looking.
I agree
Suggesting our practice, gives us permission to make mistakes from a very knowledgeable person. You are super duper thank you very much.

Lol I’m a watercolor artist that feels the same way about oils!

I learned so much from your video in just 15 min. Controlling the amount of water in your brush seems obvious but very important!
Beautiful painting. Thank you for an excellent lesson. I learned a lot,
Alex
Best feature of this channel is you always paint after teaching.
putting your knowledge aside, I love your approach. I also like your soft and direct voice.
Wow, I have been missing this guy my whole life, and found him just now, 3 years later, I am late but very grateful of this amazing lesson
Having less water in your mixture than on the paper was a revelation. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your calm explaination and demonstration! I have never had a real-life art teacher, and drawing along with your videos helps a lot!

I really love how you speak slowly and clearly ! Great tutorial and amazing artist!

Correct, I fought with this until I realized that it just is not possible.
