Hi from Czech republic. Can anyone translate this song about Hunyadi pls? I don!t trust Google translator and I want to understand this song. Thank you
Maybe I will do it in the future, but not today, because it's very long
@@iranytuamultban OK, I will be patiently waiting for your translation then :D Greetings from Czechia
Here’s a quick translation, but there are some caveats :D The original is a 107-stanza song from 1560 about the life of János Hunyadi, this is a 15-stanza shortened version of that, basically select stanzas about the siege of Nándorfehérvár in 1455. I’m translating the meaning, not the poetry of the language here.
I’m recalling for you, if you shall listen, the good János Hunyadi,
his humility, loyal service, his hard battle,
the two kings called László in his time, emperor(/sultan) Amurates,
Nándorfehérvár, at last, Iancula voivode’s (= János Hunyadi’s) death.
It was the year 1455
the sultan Mehmed was preparing on land and water
then with 400,000 people the sultan set out in his great arrogance
he dared to besiege Nándorfehérvár by both land and water.
He begin to fire at the towers and stone walls of Nándorfehérvár
when young King László was told of these matters
a German lord advised him to set out
and that very same night they all escaped from Buda castle.
Buda’s gate was unguarded for 15 days
the king didn’t spare a single thought to the country’s defense
when János voivode in Transylvania has heard of this
that the great Mehmed is leading a strong siege upon Nándorfehérvár
even though he has finished his time as governor
he still wanted to serve his homeland to his death
he quickly rushed, and he recruited as many soldiers as he could
János Kapisztráni (= John of Capistrano) with the crusaders (this was an untrained Christian peasant army, but that’s a bit of a mouthful in a song) accompanied him.
The good János Hunyadi rode day and night, when he got to the Great Plains
in many boats and ships the voivode put his people
made them row hard, rushing with his champions to defend Nándorfehérvár,
to face sultan Mehmed’s naval forces in battle.
János Hunyadi’s heart was miraculously brave, he encouraged his people well,
he commanded his ships and boats to the hard battle and made them withstand it,
he called upon the lord Jesus Christ to help, made his people shout it,
(this is where the string instrument is getting strummed very hard, 3:30)
and like fast lightning, he suddenly attacked the Ottoman.
The Hungarians burned down the sultan’s ships and naval forces,
they all entered Nándorfehérvár with János Hunyadi
The people were glad to see János Hunyadi in Nándorfehérvár
and they gave thanks to God in heaven for it.
János voivode began to encourage the scared people (= of Nándorfehérvár) like so:
“My beloved sons, why are you scared?” he told them,
“For now, my beloved sons, trust in Christ,
who has promised that he would listen to us.”
“So don’t be afraid, trust in Christ’s promise,
he will surely be with us, according to his promise, in our current big affair,
for these (= the Ottoman) are almost as great an enemy of his as they are ours,
we don’t have to be afraid, for Christ is our leader, so who could stand against us?”
When the voivode told these things to the scared people
he made everyone get ready for the hard battle in Nándorfehérvár
he chose valiant leaders from their ranks, he divided duties
Hunyadi was turning this way and that, encouraging the people, teaching them to fight.
The sultan had learned that the Hungarians have beaten his naval forces
and that the Hungarians have burned all his ships and crafts on the Danube
and he said to the pashas, “I will not suffer this damage, this injury;
even if all my people die in this siege, I will take it (= Nándorfehérvár.)”
The sultan was destroying much of the hard stone walls of Nándorfehérvár
and when the fifteenth day came, he called the pashas
at the red dawn he called all of his people to go into battle
that day they fought a hard fight until nighttime at the siege.
Hunyadi was turning this way and that, encouraging the people, then he set out ahead of them.
The valiant Hungarians beat back the heathens from their siege soon,
pursuing them to their encampments, causing a great bloodshed,
the Hungarians shot an arrow into Mehmed sultan’s chest.
The humble champions shared great joy with János Hunyadi
they gave thanks with beautiful praise to the Lord
who had destroyed the arrogance and great forces of Mehmed,
and gave a great victory to the poor Christians at Nándorfehérvár.

@@conseildetat No problem :) I realized I forgot to translate one of the later stanzas, so I added it now
