  • Interesting Re-Operative Parathyroid Case of the Week with Dr. Mitchell
Today's patient was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism in 2022 and was referred to a local surgeon. Unfortunately, the surgeon was not able to locate the parathyroid adenoma and removed a normal, healthy parathyroid gland. The patient was told that she has been cured, but her lab values remained unchanged and her symptoms persisted.
Luckily, she found the Norman Parathyroid Center and reached out to us for help. When she came in for evaluation with us, we very clearly identified her parathyroid adenoma within her thyroid gland on ultrasound.
Check out the full video to learn more details about this patient's case, learn why her initial surgery was not successful, see her imaging before surgery, learn about my surgical plan with her, and hear how she is doing now.
This case underscores the importance of selecting an experienced, high-volume parathyroid surgeon the first time. This situation could have been avoided had she found us sooner.
