Long term pain , 3 games gain
This is silly, this is how Poch has been playing the entire time. It’s a box midfield. Argh it irritates me how ignorant people are. We lay a low block as 4 4 1 1. We have a mid block of 4 4 2. We build up in a 3 2 2 3. We keep that formation when pressing/counter pressing high for roughly 3 seconds or until the press chaos peters out. Box midfield in possession for majority of the season has been Caicedo, Enzo, Gallagher, Palmer. Wingers Sterling/Mudryk and Gusto. There has been different variations depending what players are available.
The only difference now is you have a good balance of players (due to injuries) and team chemistry. Moving the box midfield to Caicedo, Cucu, Gallagher and Palmer allows 3 super star presses. Palmer is not the best at pressing but amazing at closing passing lanes.
Gallagher reverting from a 10 to 6 gives us better defensive coverage in our blocks and 3 second press. Caicedo (with Cucu inverting) can make driving runs Kante style. On the wings we now have players with dangerous speed and dribbling ability. Dribblers create overloads. On the right you have all ball players which create chaos with overloads because they have the brains (Palmer), Speed/hold up (Jackson), speed/dribbler (Noni). This balance makes it almost impossible to defend. On the left you have extremely direct players in Gallagher and Mudryk. Players who don’t demand the ball like the left side. At the back we are using 3 CB who like to hold their position and are capable of defending out wide. Balance is perfect, but also players have now been practicing in real life games for so long that it flows.

@@ademkilinc9462if by better you mean consistent, I agree. This why I’m a fan of Gallagher, Palmer, Silver and Gusto. They all have consistent games that are above a 7. That is what wins us titles. Everyone else is yet to learn the basics that builds a consistent player. Obviously it’s hard with such a young team.
@@footballfan5048 Poch needs to stay 100%. I truly believe in him. It’s not the coaching that causing issues. The team needs to settle. The tactics are perfection and very adaptable within the current construct. Poch is the right coach in this moment for the team.

My Chelsea Rebuild:
Managerial Options: A Hardcore, direct coach is what we need, mixed with some good counter attacking.
Poch - The best option would be to stay with poch especially with the way the team is gelling and started to build chemistry together. Currently in 7th which shows growth especially with the amount of injuries we’ve suffered and the age of the squad.
Hansi Flick - Won the world cup 2014 as an assistant coach with Germany and played some of the best football out of all the teams in the 2022 World Cup. Let's not forget Havertz was his starting striker as well in 2022 and international/club are completely different in terms of time spent with players. Created a Bayern side that destroyed oppositions, fluid attacking football, aggressive pressure without the ball, good on the ball and had creative interplay, very dynamic, can play possession based football and counter attacking football.
Special Mentions:
Xabi Alonso although unlikely very self explanatory, on route to complete an invincible season and a treble although unlikely with this set of players he would definitely be doing a good job. Only issues is it’s been one season probably best to see if he’ll do well in the champions league, the possession based extremely direct attacking style only works so well with certain players and positions.
Jose Mourinho - serial winner, best at changing teams psychology and bringing back that we need. Jose had even brought through 7 academy players at Roma since he’s come in and all are regular first team players now. A good coach will not always elevate players to their full potential but will always remind them what playing for a top club is worth. He can manage these players, his leadership, aura and man management are unquestionable with big egos, and is the only one that broke our number 9 curse by identifying our 2 last great strikers in Drogba and Costa. Issue is the situations between the past and current football are different so it’s more of a risk and he would want to bring in his own players whcih would most likely be older..
(Wouldn’t mind any of these managers this is just based on personal preferences and the level of risk with current players)

Martinez is a gem. Petrovic came from MLS and played behind a suspect back line for most of his first season. I wouldn't write him off. Petrovic's ceiling could be just as high as Martinez in the end.
I was always a fan of Martinez as a keeper.However we would have to sell Kepa and Sanchez to free up space in the team for Martinez so they need to start finding teams for those two guys.1st choice Martinez 2nd Choice Petrovic sounds good to me.

I don't think Reece would do as well. Cucu is very quick and that's how he can cover both midfield and comeback to wings when he needs to. Not to mention Reece need some games to recover his form.

Yup. The market and viewership out here in the US is growing very fast especially among the younger folk. It’s a very big market and that’s a great strategy.

Love the feedback seen from the board members like Todd, it show this guys have a long term vision and scalable plan for the club, we're good on the business and franchise side of things. The sporting directors and others in charge of the more footballing aspects of the club just need to feed them the right information as regards building the squad and we're a go for the next half a decade.
Personally like the idea of an experienced head in the defense especially with Silva leaving, Petrovic has done well, but we need a martial in defense. Our build up play would also improve with Martinez. There's also the caveat of having more appeal with South American (particularly Argentinean) targets.
Pochetino would need to get Europa football to strengthen his case for staying till another season, himself and the team have shown glimpses of the levels we can be at, we just need to be consistent and keep key players fit.

The Cucu inverted LB experiment is still raw. If you go back and look, you’ll see Noni’s defensive positioning is so sub par. Keep in mind defensive work rate is not the same as positioning and keeping defensive structure.
Very soon teams will find us out, overload that right flank defensively and play through us. Happened to us against the second goal v Villa.

Honestly, i believe Martinez as keeper... Wanted him from start for experience and rate him, a new experienced cb and a striker will be a solid new spine to allow youngsters to play and be a team for a while to click. Then shop smart like city. Out with players and replace them for profit will a younger like for like. Jackson has stepped up but he has no competition so it will up his game. But rotate in games with small changes to keep the player fit and fresh and happy.
Chelsea in top 5 and in the Europa league next year could be best for getting young team used to travel and 2 game weeks for 2026 season in the champions league?

Yellow cards can be good, but to an extent. When play isn’t going your way, as a coach I always say I want 3 yellow cards today. This subconsciously helps to create energy, movement and pace. It makes the game harder for the opposition. From that you will start to dominate games. A yellow is for a late tackle that was accidentally mistimed. Not a deliberate foul. This has to be explained as the last thing you want is to hurt the opposition or get a red. It’s simply a motivation to try harder.

Why were we playing better in pre season than we were all season barring these last few games? It’s down to the manager and their tactics, don’t be delusional. Palace went from 1 win in 10 to 4 wins in 5 after a couple of months with a new manager but the same players. Emery got Villa in a relegation battle from Gerrard and got them European football and now in a champions league position. Xabi Alonso got a Leverkusen who were struggling to a European spot and now won the league and is 49 games unbeaten with practically the same group of players but when it comes down to Chelsea, we have to wait 10 months for a few good games and it’s not down to Poch even though the improvements have come after tactical changes?

You say it’s our player but why all of a sudden the change coming after the second have of the Aston Villa game? Because he changed his tactics when he could’ve done that ages ago. I mention pre season because of the way we were playing, in build up etc it was basically what we’re seeing now. Look at us throughout the season and Caicedo was always left alone in the centre which caused us problems in the build up and defensive phase. This is why I’m saying it took him the best part of 10 months to revert to something similar we were doing in preseason and finally seeing some improvements on the pitch

Biggest issue with
Poch is that everything is too slow, subs, tactics etc, this could greatly cost us in the future. I honestly believe that due to the injuries it forced poch into being consistent with lineups and tweaking formation, previously if Mudryk or madueke (width) performed badly we would see sterling and other out of form players with longer leashes. Now we see a team with a run of games performing better. I don’t buy that poch couldn’t have inverted collwill believed in Trevor, dropped Enzo to rest him, optimized other players. But hey we’re here now 😪

Tell me that blue-co couldn't have learned from that advice before replacing literally every level of our club in around a year. Another one is "you'll never win anything with kid's". You don't need coaching badges just need to have been watching football for longer that 5 minutes
