Great job Duong. Can you make a paint brush? Would it be worth trying to make some kind of resin or glue or something and coat your building with it so your materials are protected and last longer?
Every UA-camr who do these mostly-visual videos has a different style of cinematography. I like how you do long distance shots mixed in with your medium range and close-ups. It's a much more unique perspective on your activites than just medium distance and close visuals. I see it, and I know it's most likely a film by Duong of Primitive Skills. As a writer, I can imagine a traveler passing a farm on a nearby road, and seeing the farming family at work in the distance just like I can see you at work on your own farm in the distance. It's not always easy to see what you are doing, but I think that is actually a good thing. It trains us to think about what you could be doing, and trains us to be patient, observe, and figure it out. It's a literally different perspective, and the long-distance view also gives us an overview of all the activities and zones in your homestead, which means it's also a chance to notice any subtle changes from day to day, week to week.
Oh, I was wondering what you were going to do with two bushels full of bamboo shoots at the end of the last episode. Eat all of them? Take them to town and put them in a freezer? Instead we get a skills demonstration. Cool.
You might think about building a smoke house. It would consume less wood. Just an idea. I really enjoyed the video with your family. My fondest childhood memories are spending time on my grandfather's farm.
Hi👋 now that you smoked and dried out the Bamboo shoots what do you use them for or are they for eating just like that ? Love the way you you built the new kitchen and it will be nice and warm now that you added walls to keep the warmth in, have you thought about building a stove , nice table and chairs would be also nice in the New Kitchen and Maybe Shelves to keep you cooking pots and dishes on , the way you built everything on a curved angle is beautiful , the water wheel and everything you have made what a talent you have and having a beautiful family too , you are truly blessed 🙏
Your preservation technique is a lost art given the ease of getting processed food from the supermarket. What I would like to know is, if you are going to store them in an airtight container? Can you please show, what you are going to use? Thank you
Hola Doung!
A good challenge would be making a stove/cook top out of clay and using that iron to make a metal grate to cook on! Also a sink/rinse prep station would be awesome.
As you continue to farm and expand your land, I think it would be a good idea for you to save all the dirt in one gigantic pile. With all of the extra dirt, you could make bricks or use bamboo to create framework for raised crop beds. This will raise the crops to knee-height, which will give them access to more sunlight, deter pests on the ground from scavenging, and will be easier on your back. There are numerous other benefits of having raised crop beds, but these are just a few.
maybe building a smoke house to better dry and smoke foods could be a project later on... that way you'll have an area to preserve all your food when you need to... and it'll use up less wood from catching the smoke more efficiently...
Always something interesting and useful to learn, My sincere gratitude and amazement at the depth and breadth of your knowledge. My masters degree and science degree in tropical agriculture does not come anywhere near your skills and knowledge. Peace Love and Light
duong you do a lot of drying over a fire, and you have a kiln......! i have suggested several times now that it is a far better place to dry things than over a fire... in the kiln you can keep insects off and use less fuel for quicker drying because it is a sealed space and a large thermal mass....would be better for warming you too once you heat it up it stays warm a long time. thanks for the videos
@@avenderael small fire small heat lol its like a pizza oven or a bread oven its just a more efficient way as more heat is retained by the kiln and its a less humid atmosphere ..in theory less fuel and time as well as its not accessible to insects rodents or fowl ..
@@Lauradicus if its just drying then he would be fanning it and there would be much more flame...its a smouldering fire no roaring in it just a lot of smoke he may be calling it drying but the drying is more of a byproduct of the smoking .
@@mobiousenigma : He only needs to change the ambient temperature and humidity a little bit, in the immediate area, to hasten drying. Yes, it would be more efficient if he did it in an enclosed space such as his kiln or even a simple woven bamboo enclosure that would help contain the heat longer. The woven bamboo would have the additional benefit of better air circulation.
Love the series as always, but I have to ask - Why wall in the kitchen? What does it gain you? Is it so you can cook while it's rainy and the wind blows down the hill?
Kedves Barátom ! Így felfűzve a bambusz rügyek biztosan jobban kiszáradnak és szerintem a füstölés még ad egy + plusz aromát is ! 👍 Mimi mami Magyarországról 🇭🇺
What are the purpose of hanging bamboo shots? I don't think so it really good to preserve like what you doing. It's new for me and im wondering how it work.
@@avenderael : The smoke itself is anti-microbial and will help with preservation. It is the same reason he blackened the post bottoms before burial. Dryness + Smoke preserves many things.
It's insane to think back to when you were making the mud and straw bricks to build that house and now you have build a new roof for it a kitchen that rotted away then a new kitchen and this time your putting walls on the kitchen... your family is going to be so shocked with the amount of work you have done since they have been to the farm last ! Plz show us their reactions to the new kitchen !

You soon learn which sounds are of real concern. They also squabble a lot amongst themselves (literally, establishing the "pecking order"). You only pay attention when it goes on for an extended time.
I'm wondering about the land that you build on. Is that just claimed by you or is it bought and owned? How's the rules for just claiming land in Vietnam wilderness? PS: Love your work! Keep it up!
I love the new kitchen! It looks very well made, high quality and more durable than the last one! It looks like a true upgrade when comparing it to the old kitchen. A bit sad that the roof doesn't match the high quality of the walls, but maybe the roof will get upgraded in the future? Can't wait to see how the rest of the farm will look once everything has been upgraded to higher quality materials and technique! Thanks as always, great job!
Anda harus membuat atap dari tanah liat yang di bentuk kemudian dibakar, itu akan lebih aman untuk rumah anda, dan saya merasa itu akan menjadi series yang bagus untuk UA-cam anda.
I have no experience with processing bamboo shoots for eating. Why did you boil them and then soak them in water? Is this considered like blanching? To kill any bacteria, etc., before drying? With your rains I am surprised that you dried them out in the open with no overhead protection, but relieved to see that you did cover them. : ) I am also curious how you managed to boil that huge amount? In smaller pots or did you heat stones and place them in that long wooden container to boil the water?
Great job Duong. Can you make a paint brush? Would it be worth trying to make some kind of resin or glue or something and coat your building with it so your materials are protected and last longer?

Your kitchen design looks great and really becoming more of the house! Will you later redo the roof with boards like you did on your house?
Preserving food, one of the most important knowledge in survival skills! It is really inspiring to watch you work.

If you remove all the moisture then it makes the product difficult to decompose. Maybe there's another step coming that preserves it even better.
