I read this quote today and immediately thought of you Tipper. "Some have a heart so pure it makes your own heart ache".
You are so kind! Thank you 😊
I have had such a stressy day and for whatever reason listening to you talk about fall, and fires in the wood stove, is making it all OK. Thank you. Your streams are medicinal.
I’m sorry for your bad day! Hoping tomorrow is better 😊 glad you enjoyed visiting with me
❤
Beautifully said……♥️
I built a fire in my woodstove last year and the temp got up to 98 degrees. I had to open the front door for a little while.. Sure did feel good!
Good afternoon Tipper I just wanted to let you know that I have been listening to you this morning and it really it really got to me. I don't even remember what the country song was now, something about not seeing your mother. My mom passed away when I was 19 and I am 75 now. It has been a long long time since she's passed away and I miss her. I had a really good cry over this video and I want to thank you. Please enjoy your mother, ask her all the questions you could ever think of while she's here to answer them. You have a wonderful family.
I connect with this too! My mother has been gone over thirty years now. Some days and years have been more difficult than others, but there was something very hard about crossing the year that you’ve lived longer without your mother than you lived with her in your life. I crossed that bridge this past year with my daddy too, and I’m struggling. I love story songs, but they definitely get me in my feelings. My mother would have loved this channel.
I'm so sorry you lost her way too soon!
My momma used to remind me if you change "I don't want" to "I get" you are immediately happier. For example, "I don't want to go to the store" becomes "I get to go to the store". You also get a whole lot of things to be grateful for.
Granny and Paw. I lost my Paw a month before my youngest was born. He was my favorite person ever. My Granny lives with my mama and I go every day to have lunch with her. ❤
I'm so glad you do that! I'm sorry you all lost Paw.
One of the wisdoms today made me think of this one that my nanny always told me and I now tell to my kids." You got your britches to get mad in and your britches to get glad in. "😊 they give me the same dumb founded expression that I probably gave to Nanny when she said it to me.
Loved visting with you today. Had to catch you after i got home from work. I would just Love to purchase one of those sturdy mugs. I Love story songs, John Prine one of the best. Robert Earl Keene too. ❤😊
Happy Monday everyone!
I Tipper. I just love your live videos. I'm sorry Y'all didn't get any rain. I have started praying that the Lord will send rain y'all's way. Speaking of rain, when I was little I was terrified of thunder. My grandma would say don't be scared that loud sound is just a watermelon cart tipping over in heaven and that made me not be so scared. 😊
Listened to the video while canning white half runners! Always enjoy!
Tipper some times we all need a tear song !!! I memories a persons foot steps can still hear them in my mind !!! Then they call me on their phone cause they wanted to hear my voice like I do with their voices !!! GOD I was so Happy they were safe & sound but also mad cause they used wireless phone outside of base camp !!! Lobe this person a lot so I keep in track with Him then !!! Good Christian Man !!!
Good morning from Ohio. We are officially in a drought. My grass has gone dormant. I haven't mowed in almost a month 😮 Y'all take care
Love it when you post things for us to be able to look up…would love to be able to order something’s for Christmas.
One of my favorite story songs is by Collin Raye called LOVE, ME. Pastor Paul Begley recorded it too. When taking care of Daddy, who had Alzhiemers; I'd sing it to him. I don't think I ever got through it without crying 😭 but it was a sweet cry.
Have to credit playwright Neil Simon for this I’ve remembered 52 years: There are 2 kinds of people, the watchers and the doers. The watchers sit around watching the doers do.
Hi Tipper good to see you again great chat keep them coming God bless you all
several years ago a sister in law of mine was visiting her mom and step dad in a town near me so I went over to visit with everyone (her mom was like a second mother to me as her and my brother had started dating when she and I were 14) --the mother (June) had a twin (Joyce) ... we all sat around after supper, my sister n law and her dad playing their guitars and we all sang along----at one point June said she had a song to sing and as she proceeded I was slack jawed as was my sister n law and her cousin as we heard the words of an incredibly long song-----we could not believe the words let alone them coming out of such a sweet womans mouth---the song was Knoxville Girl, there are several recordings of it but you probably have heard it by The Louvin Brothers...Stonewall Jackson also recorded it..if you havent heard it you can find it on UA-cam....all these years later (with my sister in law and I being only ones left alive from that night of playing and singing) I still am in shock of all the songs June could have sung she chose that one....oh I just found your dad and Paul doing that very song....my bad
We got no rain in Indiana either. Several of our counties are under a no burn order. We need rain!
Yes, I would love to hear more about Appalachian ballads with title and composers or performers if possible so I could look them up. I especially like the Appalachian music you share about.
Loretta Lynn’s “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, is a really good one.
Thank you Tipper. God Bless.💚&🙏🙏'ers for all. Jean
Coal Miners daughter, great story song.
Enjoyed the chat and words of wisdom...and the song links. Thanks Tipper 🤗❤️
My Mama loved Tom T Hall.....and Merle Haggard......and Vern Gosdin.....now there's a fine group of voices right there!
The first story song I remember hearing and enjoying was Johnny Horton's "The Battle of New Orleans". Two of my other favorites are Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and Randy Travis's "Three Wooden Crosses".
Tom T Hall is from our area…Olive Hill Kentucky…about 40 minutes away from our town of Ashland, Kentucky. Stoped there many times. Visited the Train Museum that had a lot of things of his in it. I don’t know if it is still there.
Good morning, Tipper! Enjoying the live this morning.
"Fall of the year"! I always like hearing that expression. No, not the biblical fall! Does Matt climb on the roof and use an extending brush to clean your stovepipe before the first fire? Don't know how many years I'll continue to do that . . . 80 next spring. I'm good for this year's cleaning.
He does climb up every year. I hope he can as long as you 😊
You always look cute Tipper!!
Oh thank you 😊
Good morning to the tipper family 😂 ❤
We finally got rain here in Northeast Mississippi right on the Mississippi/Alabama line from Francine. Hope this helps my salat patch ( if it hasn't washed into the woods) . I only got to can 28 quarts of rattlesnake beans. Usually can over 100 quarts on the same length rows.
Glad you got some rain!!
Tipper this was a sign that Dad had on his used carlot office wall.
USED TRUCK FOR SALE, NO SEAT AND NO STEERING WHEEL (perfect for someone whose lost his rump and don't know where to turn) 😂
We have had a drought all summer. Our fall trees are not going to be pretty because they are so dry.
We didn't get much rain here in southern middle Tennessee either but it has felt wonderful outside.
When i was a little girl i can remember being in the garden with my daddy and him stopping in the middle of aa row while he was hoeing. I can just see him lean on the hoe and take his hat off and wipe his brow. He would say it is hotter than the devils armpit today
The Old Man & His Horn by Gene Watson is a great story song. I covered it on my husbands UA-cam channel (creation sleeves) several years ago . I love all the old story songs.
Rain in the way
Have you heard the song "Daddy what if" ? It's by Bobby Bare.
😊 I have so sweet
Tell Granny Wilson I love her, God bless you Tipper, we will be making cornbread before long, yum yum
Thank you Norman!
@@CelebratingAppalachia somebody's birthday is coming soon, how old will they be? We used to celebrate birthdays with corn from a jar
@@CelebratingAppalachia good night granny
@@NormanChester882 😊 28
old saying ...How 'ya feelin? Oh...like an Old Hen with a egg broke in 'er lol!
Another one I heard growing up is how ya feelin'? With my fingers😂😂😂
Good morning
Tipper, have you ever heard the song "Tell mother I'll be there"? My mom used to sing it.
I looked it up what a beautiful song!
The last one in wisdom is something I’ve repeated several times to my children and even coworkers. Not to be mean at all. Just to let them know that their inability to plan is on them. I’m always there to help, but please, take responsibility for your inactions.
My mom would tell us when we got mad or upset you have 2 choices Get over it or dont
Hot Rod Lincoln by CC & LPA
🧡💛🤎
My Dad would play Red Sovine because it would make me cry! Phantom 309 and Teddy Bear. I think I was 9. I'd be in the back seat of the car with tears just falling! 🥲
I heard the other day a saying I thought you’d like. A lady said; Never lay down and waller with pigs, remember they like the mud. Meaning I’m guessing never sink down to anyone’s level.
I grew up in the deep woods of Mississippi and have moved all over the country since I left my hometown at the age of 26. Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, and now New York. Who I think of and miss the most is my Papaw who died in 2011. He had a rough life and often learned lessons the hard way.. And since he'd been through it all, us grand kids were told to listen up when he would speak. From learning how to get rid of a wasp nest with soapy water, changing your own tire, catching and cleaning fish for supper, raising hunting dogs, growing a garden.. He knew it all. As a kid, I always thought he was so strict.. But now as an adult, I get it. He just wanted what was best for us. One thing that always stood out to me was, "Look out for your hands. You've only got two of them." Now, he didn't condone fighting, but said that if you found yourself in one.. "don't hit first and don't use your hands." But now I understand he always meant, "work smarter, not harder". I'm 40 now and I apply that advice to everything I do in life. Thank you for your kindness and love, Mrs Tipper. ❤️🥰
Thank you for sharing about your dear Papaw!!
Tipper, these chats are just so special. I look forward to them each week. It’s almost like being there with you. Thank you for your special gift and the wisdom you share.
I'm so glad! Thank you 😊
My son has learned 2 prank calls and it is so funny- he’s 4. The first is “ is your refrigerator running?” Better go catch it And my mom taught him last week, “ do you have Prince Albert in a can?” You better let him out! I didn’t know what Prince Albert was - I thought it was baking powder or something 😂lol 😂😂
I believe Prince Albert was some kind of tobacco! I remember saying that as a kid and I'm 67 years old now! Lol
I remember those from childhood 😊
A prank call I always found hilarious is to call the meat department of the local grocery store and ask if they have pickled pigs feet. If they answer yes, ask them how they walk🤣🤣🤣
@@CelebratingAppalachia we don’t actually call anyone, I forgot to say the phone is his foot 🤪😂
@@alannagilmore8982 😊
I enjoy these talks so much and always look forward to Monday mornings spent with Tipper. 😊
Thank you Rhonda 😊
Mondays are so much better now that I can look forward to your live chat and enjoy the wisdom. It's the best part of my Mondays.
Yes, I completely agree!
Oh you are so kind-thank you 😊
Oh, goodness. When you mentioned "murder songs" it brought back memories of Daddy singing "Tom Dooley." He loved the Kingston Trio and so that's the version we always listened to. Such a nice memory. There's also a ballad I heard as a child at a bluegrass concert at a town fair. It's called "One morning in May" and there are a million versions of it on UA-cam, including one by the country gentlemen..I like one by a woman named Alison Brown, I think because it sounds like the one I heard as a child. I just always found it hauntingly beautiful.
Really enjoyed the live I had to rewatch off course but it was awesome
My parents always said you can never give away more than you will get back.
Sun
I am watching this video after work and I love it, as I do all of your videos! You really took me back, 51 years! For 3 years, before we moved to GA, we lived in Raleigh, NC. My 3rd grade teacher was named Betsy Wilson, at Helen Y. Stough School, 1973. She loved blue grass music and taught us some songs she loved including “Slew Foot”. She also loved Tom T Hall and taught us his song “I Love”, and she taught us to play the autoharp. I’ve always wondered how she was doing over the years. She was very young and so pretty. Thank you for reminding me about Tom T Hall and Mrs. Wilson!
Old General Store owners could tell who walked in by the way the old floor creeking and the foot falls, the store owner would say morning( Fred) and not look up from the newspaper.
There's a storm coming in off the Atlantic that might end our drought here. Dusty says they are calling for up to 5 or 6 inches possible before it's all said and done. We'll just wait and see. It's looking like it won't make it far enough to offer you any relief but there's always hope.
I’m a hoping 😊
Oh my! I was looking out my window because the birds were chirping so loud and suddenly realized it was background noise from your porch!!! This old gray mare just ain't what she used to be...🤭
😊
I just got my copy of your cookbook. I love it!! I spent a whole day reading and looking at it.
Yay! Thank you!
Before family trips my grandfather would say to his many children, "Leave that ol' fussing at home."
Love the content, thank you. What a country, we are very lucky. 🇺🇲
When I listen to ballads or story songs I often think about how they would be if the story was expanded on made into a movie.
We, in Iowa, shows upper 80's until Saturday when it might rain but then temps are forecasted to be 10 degrees less throught the rest of the days. Hopefully that pattern will stick. We are terribly dry but unfortunately alot of rain here now might delay corn & bean harvest.
Daddy used to sing The Lightning Express, Banks of the Ohio, Knoxville Girl, Hills of Roan County, Cowboy’s Lament, and Patanio the Pride of the Plains (that one always made me cry). There were many others but those stand out in my mind.
I love bluegrass. I feel it down in my soul.
We had Squaw winter, now we are having Indian summer
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Ode to Billy Joe.
I love your hospitality how well get along with others see your sweet smile love yall and this channel and God bless you and your lovely family ❤️
thank you 😊
Enjoyed the video. Thank you ❤❤❤
Whenever I wasn't feeling good my daddy would say "are you feeling mighty puny?" My daddy wasn't one to worry too much about feelings so It made me feel very special that he cared to ask.
I don’t think there is much wisdom in this but when my mother would have something to go wrong she would say…Shut Fire and Molasses.
No rain here in Barboursville, WV
I wish my cookbook was signed. I live down here in Texas. I am grateful to even have one ❤
Thank you!!
So enjoy your Monday live. We are in a drought here in middle TN. I haven’t mowed in weeks. Watering parts of the garden every other day as I still have tomatoes, okra and just planted turnip greens. No rain insight for 10 days. Hopefully that changes soon.
Thanks Tipper.
I hope so! Thank you 😊
Tipper, love these videos every Monday and especially love the wisdoms. We could use rain too. Everything is very dry.
Glad you like them!
Hearing you talk about story songs, reminded me of a book I read years ago. The title was “Songcatcher”. There’s even a movie too. You’ve probably heard of it, but I highly recommend. It would be a great for your next one to read to us. Sounds just like something you’d love Tipper.
You’ve mentioned a wisdom I posted a couple weeks ago. Just an fyi…my name is Donisha Weir. Hard to tell from my ID. I so relate with your family. We are from NE Arkansas. Been subscribed for several years and your videos are a joy to watch.
Thank you 😊
Tipper I have been listening to Corrie she seems so down and depressed I think she has baby blues aka hormone imbalance she reminds me so much of myself after my first child. Not trying to but into your family affairs but I'm worry about her. The doctor can give her something for that if she tells them about it.
Thank you for worrying about her 😊
Dont.let your Left hand know. what you’re right hand knows.
I'm late as usual. Nearly 11 am. Stuff needs doing always lol. We need rain and cooler weather. So relaxing for a bit before I go pick up a few things for the grand daughter. Glad you are all good.
Thank you Linda!!
WORDS OF WISDOM YOU CAN CATCH MORE FLIES WITH HONEY THAN YOU CAN WITH VINEGAR.
My grandma used to always say an itchy nose meant you kissed a fool. No idea where she got that from, wondering if anyone else has heard that!
Not enough rain in Massachusetts either. Dang it!
My mom would say if someone was mad they can get glad in the same britches they got mad in
My mom used to say that too!😊
Mrs. Tipper, You can relax now Hurricane Helene has brought y'all plenty of rain, here in Virginia too, almost TOO MUCH! But we Thank the Lord anyway.😊
Thanks Tipper this is so much better than just a Monday. So now not only to I enjoy all the other videos but the Friday and the Mondays are on my calendar Tipper time. Thanks for sharing such good stuff with us. Blessings and peace with a little rain to you and yours. Brooks, Oregon. ♥️👍🙏🇺🇸🤣
Have you ever heard Dusty and Lefty by Townes Van Zandt? it's a good story song. Also Tecumseh Vally by Townes too.
I don’t think I have 😊 I will look for them
I got the title wrong. It's "Poncho and Lefty"
@@chewyjiver2239 Oh I know that one! Such a great song!!
You are going to enjoy going to the Ramsey house in Knoxville. I lived there over 30 years and all my grandchildren went on field trips. They loved it. I wish I still lived there so I could see you. I’ve told a lot of my friends to ga and see you.. have a wonderful time.❤️
Tom T Halls whiskey song has been a favorite of mine since forever. I love it. Yes it’s sad but those old ballads speak to me. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom. Many I’ve never heard of before
I always enjoy Ray Stevens and his crazy little story songs. Good for a few chuckles.🤣
Always enjoy your videos! God bless y’all! 😀❤️🙏🏻
Someone told me a long time ago, don't worry about what people think about you. Because you would be more surprised that they probably don't think of you at all.
I always enjoy your videos. Matt is just too funny ❤❤❤❤
I loved listening to Tom T Hall!!!
We need rain here in Mansfield Ohio
We got some in Hickory, not a lot but we needed it!
I remember the song “Big John”. It was a sad story song.
Yes! I've always liked that song. Jimmy Dean was another good storyteller.
Luv Tom t hall
Is anyone familiar with the song "The Awful Dreadful Snake?"....it's bluegrass.....and so sad.
I will have to look for it 😊
❤
