The professor did a really interesting stark of Wrath deck tech last year, If you can untap him (with 1000 year elixr for example) in response to the give to opponent trigger then tap him to destroy one of your creatures (like solem or a myr token) you get him back when everything resolves.
Don't you have to target one of your things first then with an untap target an opponents thing so that it resolves the destruction on your opponents thing and then it goes to them then it comes back to you because you "Sacced" one of your own things?
Used to have a Starke deck, he's a pretty fun general. Don't forget Umbra Mantel grants an untap ability and also pumps. Gives Starke a total rampage mode with enough mana. Also some bracers that copy the ability so you can get him back right away. I leaned into the tap effects you can close out the game with a goblin package; goblin sharpshooter, krenko, kiki jiki. Also vashino heretic, Dwarven mine blaster do solid work. I was turning permanents into artifacts and just wiping everything out with Starke.
My starke deck is pure mono-red draw go control that uses damage doubles and x spells to kill. The only targets in my deck for starke are elixir of immortality, stuffy doll, brash taunter, dockside extortionist, and spine of ish-sah. It takes alot of inspiration from the old blue white control deck from theros/ ravnica format. It can also blow up everything but enchantments and planeswalkers then uses the set up cards left on the table to build stupid advantage.
I actually built Starke of Rath a few months ago. It also featured a humble defector and imperial recruiter to go get it. The deck consisted entirely of wrangle effects. It worked okay, but I decided it would be better as a Brion Stoutarm deck and added some white mana.
My kataki deck is badass. My friend was laughing because he thought it wasn't a big deal until in the first few turns he drew a few mana rocks and an artifact land and couldn't keep em. Lol
I made an orcus weenie deck.. Might upgrade it with your suggestions. I run Kataki in the 99 of one of my favorite decks. Helps keep my opponents in check.
I've been wanting to build Kataki War's Wage for ages. With Aven Mindsensor and Path to Exile/Settle the Wreckage effects and other 'hug' cards. Like Oath of Lieges.
Starke of Rath works really well with indestructible stuff on your side of the board Activate him, target indestructible artifact or creature you control, hold priority, then untap and actually kill what you wanna kill. Let the stack resolve and end up with having destroyed something AND retain him
With mycosynth lattice, if you resolve kataki’s trigger on it first and dont pay, then all permanents stop being artifacts. Since your stuff is no longer an artifact at that point, would you be able to get around having to pay 1 for everything?
I would throw in Heartless Summoning in Orcus. Its reduction to the costs of your creatures but your 1 toughness creatures will die immediately. Your commander is 4/2 but all you need to pay is the rakdos and whatever X is and whatever 1 toughness creatures you bring back would immediately die which gives tons of value.
With stark you can run conjurer’s closet and at end of turn target stark, then place his ability on the stack and it’ll blink back onto your side of the board once the stack completes itself
afraid not. the closet ability will add to the stack first. if you respond with stark your opponent will gain control of it before the closet resolves.
With starke of rath you just go combo to untap it and use artifact lands that are indistructible or tokens of any kind we make so many in commander anyways, you select your own staff to destroy, it goes to the pile, then you untap it and destroy your oppenent stuff. As the pile works, it destroys your opponent stuff first, they getcontrol of starke, then your own stufd gets "destroyed" and he comes back to you.
When you read some lore on Orcus you realize how bad they messed up on this character. Shout out to MrRhexx, they did an epic 32 minute video on Orcus lore ;p
With Starke if you stacked his triggers with you killing one of your creatures on the bottom would he destroy all the things and then return to you since he last targetted your own permanent?
I think you might be mistaken with Vexing Devil, I run it in my Feldon deck and no one ever wants it to enter play when you cast it, someone is always willing to take the 4 to kill it.
Considering his mana cost, Jin screams High Tide to me. Throw in a bunch of ways to find and recur High Tide, maybe a few other mana doublers like Caged Sun, and close out the game with big mana plays such as Expropriate, Clone Legion and Mass Manipulation.
10:41 well you can get 4 creatures with cmc 4 or less if you cast the commander for x=4... On the other hand also, I have seen this commander destroy eldrazi with his -X|-X mode

Oh yeah you’re right. I always get confused with these stack interaction things, probably the reason I’m not building this tbh! 🙃
I love that deck tech and the background story behind it!
He's better in a Norin chaos deck
That was a cool deck tech. LOL I was totally looking for this comment :P
Orcus is unbelievably good in Rakdos, Lord of Riots! The X can get huge and work like a big recurssion spell.
Dude you give great deck thought/strategy advice. Good stuff--building Kataki now!

So for Starke of Rath, I am going to put this into my Feldon of the Third path commander deck. I totally forgot about this card, thank you.
This is basically a “Bully the sad robot” episode.
I really love that Kataki deck. I'll probably build it myself.
Mycosynth lattice then use consulate crackdown. Both a must for kataki
Burnt offering from your 10 cards videos fits perfectly into Orcus, Prince of Undeath

love your content especially the off the wall stax or tax decks always giving me devilish ideas

I have this in my Maraxus deck, for the flavor of it. It has never work out in my favor but it's fun to see how everyone responds to it
Honestly, orcus is really fun with kobolds and nontoken die trigger like Judith.
With mycosynth lattice, if you resolve kataki’s trigger on it first and dont pay, then all permanents stop being artifacts. Since your stuff is no longer an artifact at that point, would you be able to get around having to pay 1 for everything?
For Starke of Rath, Mimic Vat and Feldon of the Third Path can create temporary clones with haste.
Ive been thinking about making an orcus deck with Rousing Refrain so every now and then you can use the mana to cast your commander
I would throw in Heartless Summoning in Orcus. Its reduction to the costs of your creatures but your 1 toughness creatures will die immediately. Magus of the Tabernacle is a good in for the Kataki deck, asme hability but for creatures
Some of these old commanders seem so.. much fun. I am always looking for some fun and yet fair commanders.

afraid not. the closet ability will add to the stack first. if you respond with stark your opponent will gain control of it before the closet resolves.
For Starke, Isochron Sceptre makes Brand reusable. Erratic Portal to bounce in response is useful.
For my starke of rath deck I went with politics/grouphug and then filled it with theft effects.
With starke of rath you just go combo to untap it and use artifact lands that are indistructible or tokens of any kind we make so many in commander anyways, you select your own staff to destroy, it goes to the pile, then you untap it and destroy your oppenent stuff. Mono red control/ thief is the best way to play starke i feel. You dont go tribal with it

Treasure Keeper is another good addition to Kataki
Can't you activate liquimetal torque during the previous end step to carry it's effect over?
you can not. "until end of turn" effects end at cleanup step.
World queller+ Martyrs bond ❤️
Mycosynth lattice is a must for kataki
Let’s go!!! I love this series!
If you're running alot of rituals in the Orcus deck, Toshiro could maybe live in the 99 to try and recast the rituals
I think you might be mistaken with Vexing Devil, I run it in my Feldon deck and no one ever wants it to enter play when you cast it, someone is always willing to take the 4 to kill it.
Here is a surprisingly underwhelming commander, and that is Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur that should get a chance to be on a poll.
@Great Hengesan I was looking at it from an EDHREC perspective for the number of decks rather than what he actually does.
Considering his mana cost, Jin screams High Tide to me. Throw in a bunch of ways to find and recur High Tide, maybe a few other mana doublers like Caged Sun, and close out the game with big mana plays such as Expropriate, Clone Legion and Mass Manipulation.
I play mono-red Devils, and I have never (not once!) been able to get out my Vexing Devil. Someone always takes the four life 😔
10:41 well you can get 4 creatures with cmc 4 or less if you cast the commander for x=4... On the other hand also, I have seen this commander destroy eldrazi with his -X|-X mode
i'm afraid not. it's total mana value X or less. so 8 mana gets you 4 one drops or one 4 drop
Have you ever made a stangg deck?
If school doesn't teach children how to pay taxes my mono white decks will.
Diaochan is two syllables not three.
