People like this guy are rare. This is someone who really loves what he does - he's passionate, upbeat, knowledgable, and he's got a great sense of humour. You, Mike WIlson, are an absolute boss, and my hat is off to you sir.
+DCM562 There's something so deeply admirable about someone who is at an artisan level in their craft. His actions are so practiced and smooth it makes you almost forget he's shining a shoe.
Old school shoe shine - the kind of shine done in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Always enjoyed having my shoes shined by someone like this. Not just a skill, but a talent and profession. Well done!!!
Part shoe shine, part entertainer, all professional! It's so hard these days to find someone that really masters their craft, glad to see there are still some people that take pride in what they do.
Whenever I watch this video it makes me wanna go to sleep the soothing Jazz in the background and how he polishes the shoes and how he works the towel it makes me wanna sleep!!!!!!!!!! Kinda like when I used to watch Bob Ross paint it would make me sleepy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this helpful video. I am a shiner at DFW Airport and since watching your video with your shoe shining tips, my tips from my customers have almost doubled than what I used to receive! There is a big difference applying polish by hand than with gloves or other applicators. The spraying of the brushes with water works wonders for me as well! Thanks again and much success in your business! :-)
Well Frank, it creates friction which heats up the polish kind of like the old military way of setting the polish on fire. The friction heats up the polish which melts into the shoe creating a higher gloss when you brush it out. Another thing, you have a bit more control of where you want the polish to go and where you don't want it to go.then using applicators, brushes, sponges etc. Also on hard to match color shoes, you can put some polish on your hands and see if it matches. You can also show it to the customer as well before you apply it. Remember, if you start out lighter, you can always go darker but if you can never lighten once you started dark. The most important thing though and I think Mike will say this as well, you will use less polish. That way there's less brushing out. The customer can see the results instantly too and there's far less waste of polish. You can use gloves but I like to actually get the feel of the leather when I am applying the polish. I also use my hands to apply conditioner as well. Do not use your hands though if you are using petroleum based polishes such as Kiwi though. Hope this was helpful! :-)
Many customers don't have the time for you to remove shoe laces. The only time I ever do is if the customer requests it or I notice that the tongue is getting very discolored. Anyway you polish around the laces. Another reason for using your hands when applying versus sponges, applicators etc.

P Sch Jr Absolutely excellent and amazing comments!!! I had no clue Kiwi products were petroleum-based. Thanks a lot for educating me on this! May I please ask your recommendation on the best polish products?
I mean considering Jason's bio, it's very possible he met and learned from Mike a few months prior to making his own channel. With that being said, there's always been a "friendly rivalry" between them so if he IS talking about Jason then you gotta imagine it's all in good fun.
This guy... is the Pinacle of Shoe Shine mastery. Some agree or disagree with wearing gloves, but his attitude and conviction, and the force of his opinion shows the passion which he do his work.
Now here is a man with love for his craft. If only more people would show this level of passion for their work, no matter what that work may be. It would improve the quallity of life overall :)
*A very relaxing video.* *Mr Wilson seems pleasant, knowledgeable, & an excellent conversationalist. I would certainly patronize his business @____________________@*
The art of the shine. It is a pleasure to watch a craftsman work at something he or she loves. And I feel this man loves the shine. A true pleasure to watch and learn. Thank you.
this is a very impressive video to watch from a talented master gentleman showing a step by step instructional teaching lesson presentation on how to shine shoes the correct way.
hey mike, I was a shoe shine boy when I was 8, had a cedar wood box, worked a bar, for 25 cents, a coke & bag of chips in Pottstown PA, original home of Kiwi shoe polish, & could "snap the rag". good job brother. I am 66 now.
The negative comments are probably from people who never owned shoes worthy of being shined and maintained. We live in a disposable society I'm afraid. Here is a man who obviously takes pride in his work - black, white...whatever... We need more people like him no matter what the profession.
Thanks for the great shine today. Was great getting to meet you coming all the way from Texas. My coworker also enjoyed getting his first ever shoe shine.
The Best Shoeshine in this World is in Little Rock ,Ar. of all places ! A Renaissance Shoeshine is the finest, Located in the top menswear store in Arkansas , Greenhaw's Menswear. A 5 step process applied by a master shine artist with 48 yrs. experience. 100% American Made Materials are used. Shoes look "wet" when I finish. Also sell new laces and apply toe & heel plates.
Can u please do a tutorial on how to care for crocodile shoes? i have a pair of black, and brown. They aren't worn much, but I love them, and want to keep the lasting a long time. God bless, my man you take great pride in what u do, as every man in life should!
This is my process: 1 - Brush off dirt with horsehair brush 2 - Apply leather conditioner (just started doing this, beforehand I used to go straight to polishing) 3 - Begin polishing with shirt or cloth 4 - Spit or dab water onto shoe while also buffing out with horsehair brush 5 - Put shoe on and use another shirt or cloth, holding both ends tightly, and move side to side over the shoe (like the guys on the street do) 6 - If I feel it needs more shine, I'll repeat steps 3-5. Is there anything I need to change in how I polish my shoes, or is this process fine?
While I admire his skill, I would prefer someone who is quiet and yet get his job done. Like Nick Offerman, from the point of me. There were several times in the video, where I couldn't help saying "Just,,,just cut it out..."
Legendary!! Mr. Wilson should consider a short visit to Seattle so we on the west side of the Cascade's could experience his talented gift! Waiting to hear about the "Wilson Road Show 2013!!"

yea to all the white folks.
your statement was eloquently put .
Blacks are the racist ones..
This man is the "Baba" of shoe shiners. He's sooo enthusiastic about his work and loves it!!!
Funny how " Baba " means old woman in Russia
Anonymous we're not speaking russian now are we!?
I was just pointing out something
Anonymous Aww.. Ok I am sorry :(
nikemac84 Baba: "..so, I´m putting together a team!"
I felt this wave of relaxation wash over me as I watched the master at his craft.

ASMR, look it up!
+U238 Unintentional ASMR for stuff like this, at least. All the intentional stuff does nothing for me because it isn't genuine.

P Sch Jr how exactly does it make it better? Please explain
Well Frank, it creates friction which heats up the polish kind of like the old military way of setting the polish on fire. Another thing, you have a bit more control of where you want the polish to go and where you don't want it to go.then using applicators, brushes, sponges etc. Also on hard to match color shoes, you can put some polish on your hands and see if it matches. P Sch Jr it was thank you... May I ask one more question? How come he doesn't take off the shoe laces? Wouldn't the polish ruin the laces?
Many customers don't have the time for you to remove shoe laces. The only time I ever do is if the customer requests it or I notice that the tongue is getting very discolored. Anyway you polish around the laces. Another reason for using your hands when applying versus sponges, applicators etc.

A master of two arts: the art of shoe shining and the art of conversation.
Master of conversation? Ok then.
It adds to the cozy atmosphere, you're right.
The art of the shine. It is a pleasure to watch a craftsman work at something he or she loves. And I feel this man loves the shine. A true pleasure to watch and learn. Thank you.
I would pay a decent amount of cash to get this in HD, seriously.
