- This is Gennady Elfimov Russian aerobatics instructor flying our Yak52 TF-BCX in Iceland in 2007. He showed us a typical Russian takeoff and landing. Here is a news reel of his visit and more closeup video of the takeoff: • Yakkes in Iceland, Yak...
I made another video of his flying and instructing in Iceland. • Yak 52 training with R...
Genna is one of the nicest people I know and certainly the best flight instructor I have ever had. His instructions accompany me on every flight in my Yak-52. He flies with me every time, so to speak.
Yes I agree. He trained me on the Yak 52.
Came for the snap roll, and stayed for the landing out of a half reverse Cuban 8! That's a busy pilot right there, extending the gear and flaps whilst pulling up and rolling inverted. Very cool!
Yes Gennady Elfomov is the pilot flying our Yak 52 in 2008. I got my spin training from him.
Loop to slip to landing was the real stunt.
Yes that´s impressive. I might upload it again only
A lot of excess energy to lose.
Yep that bloke can fly abit
That’s how you get your required three takeoffs and landings requirement knocked out in a jiffy.
Reminds me of the Army so many mandatory flight hours and landings per month. The paper pusher field grades had to show up and fly.
@@biggusbestus551 the FAA only requires 3 landings every 3 months, and that’s only if you want to take passengers with you. I don’t think that’s unreasonable considering the complexity of flying a modern airplane. If you only wanted to do the bare minimum, you could go for two years before any required flying and remain licensed.
Worlds shortest air show. Love it
His energy management descending to land is incredible. Does he have reverse pitch on the props?
No reverse pitch just slipped in for the landing.
@@ExtremeAviationIceland And added the VERY EFFECTIVE Flaps...
Not very easy to come from that position to a safe landing.
Beautiful flying!
An excellent peice of flying
i’d be damned if i didn’t say that was some of the best flying i’ve ever seen
Really nice action!
I hear this model has great cup holders.
Genna was the tops. Many Brits went over to train with him. Nobody knew the '52 better.
Yes it´s great flying with him
...dude got mad skills!
"Yak" that's what you do when your pilot does a bunch of these rolls
That was insanely cool
I know one guy and it must be him.
Skytrace is run by Gennady Elfimov, Russian CPL, professional aerobatic instructor. He is a graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute and worked for seven years with the Flight Research Institute. Senior Flying Instructor on the Yak 52 he was trained originally by DOSAAF the central Flight Training entity of the USSR. He was a member of Moscow aerobatic team, competed in national aerobatic competitions for five years.
It´s Gennady. He was training us on the Yak 52. Here is a news reel of the visit: ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html
Why didn’t I see this 9 years ago ?,, great flying
ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html this came on the news in 2007
Thought it was this pilot, saw him do this at North Weald (UK) in 1998.....amazing, he really knows this plane well.
That landing.......like a boss
Jeesus !
Just like a Redbull plane, made out of paper and engine XD
That was awesome. Bobby Younkin used to do that with his Samson, it takes a lot of guts.
I saw Bobby Younkin do it in Oshkosh in 2002. Impressive.
I got it on video here: ua-cam.com/video/3cSl6jM32OQ/v-deo.html
You have to wonder... who thought of that and why?
Oh hey... I just got off the ground and I’m still really close to it... let’s just pull back really quick and then see if it will roll ... with the engine torque of course
flickroll on takeoff, just another day at the airclub for Gennady Elfimov...Awesome!
Wow what a landing.
What does he do for a touch and go? Lomczevak?
They are such a great plane.
That thing has some good acceleration...
Snapasaurus....Bad Ass!! Lol
Most excellent.
These Vikings really know how to fly.
beautiful
In a true snap roll, the maneuver requires enough elevator to stall the wing, coupled with rudder to cause the “snap”. Note the lack of elevator input here. This was just an aileron roll assisted by a bunch of pro-roll rudder.
See the video here of the same takeoff but more close up. ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html He has full aft elevator and full right rudder. He adds full ailerons as well. He neutralizes the elevator immediately as it stalls to not loose energy. But there may be a chance that he faked it and did not stall it.
Might anyone remember that "Harvard", not a school! One comment did. This pilot dances on air! He grabbed speed early and then hung it in the prop and then made most off us look amateur by a roll off the top and sliding to the numbers! Top Gun is cheese cake compared to this! Thank you!
Yes it´s impressive
👏👏👏💪💪💪👍👍👍
Very nice !!
Красавчик!
Instructsky: Don’t forget - when you pull up to start the power-off vertical stall, go ahead and extend the landing gear.
Studentsky: Thanks for reminding me ... I learned that from that point on, it is too likely that one becomes very distracted and hyper-focused...
He use a lot of aileron. Snap rolling doesn't use the aileron for the roll but the rudder is used instead.
It wasn't a true snap roll. Whatever, it was a roll and impressive as hell!
He uses full rudder as well as can be seen in another video of the same takeoff: ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html
Aileron can be used in a snap roll. As it helps in the initiation of the rolling movement. Though not required it is sometimes used. The standard roll rate of this aircraft would lead me to believe that for it to rotate that quickly it would have to be a snap roll.
Impressive skills
Gennady Elfimov the pilot
Ahhh, that was not actually a "snap roll". A snap roll is actually a stall condition, just about like a spin, but not in a dive.
What we have here is a fast aileron roll, not in a stall condition.
I was most interested to see this clip. I don't think a snap roll on takeoff is real "doable" unless you don't mind crashing.
In a true snap roll, you momentarily lose lift. This close to the ground, you don't have time for that. =PC=
Agree 100%! Aileron roll with a hella ton of right rudder on the second half.
ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html this is another closeup video of the same takeoff
While I agree a snap roll is a stall condition, do you have to fully a wing to enter a spin condition? No, and I would say that applies here. Rudder is used, the right wing is definitely not making full lift, let the man have his snap roll on take off (at above sea level, none the less).
I believe this is a snap roll. You essentially quickly snap the plane into a stall, and with rudder at the same time (and sometimes with aileron) start the roll. In a snap roll usually as soon as you neutralize the controls it starts to fly again. It behaved like a snap roll. Proximity to the ground not withstanding skilled pilots do snap rolls low to the ground pretty regularly. I assume you are a pilot. I have been for 20 years, this certainly exhibits all of the signs of a snap roll. But hey it’s the internet where usually we are all wrong.
@@ExtremeAviationIceland I initially thought aileron Roll, but watching it at .75 speed you can clearly see the tail waggle.
Awesome!!
Thai was not a snaproll in takeoff, the 52 Just has good ailerons
Very Nice.
This is insane
Pilots are taught not to take risks. Is this safe ?
For this pilot Gennady, who has 5000 hours on the Yak 52. This is calculated risk and safe for him. Just because of the decades of experience he has in doing snap rolls and aerobatics.
legend
Good flyin
I saw Bud Granely do this in a Harvard. The whole crowd thought he was crashing.
It´s impressive
That’s his signature move. Even more challenging since it’s in a heavy and unwieldy Harvard.
But it’s not right on takeoff. You have to build a significant amount of energy after unstick and make sure your plane is headed up enough before you snap it.. otherwise you’ll snap or spin right into the ground.
well ... seems to me that "half cuban eight as approach" would have made a good title too ! (avoiding the stérile discussion about snap Rolling while stalling or so ...)
Yes you are right. I might upload the approach only again
@@ExtremeAviationIceland Oh no! The WHOLE flight is jewel!
That's an aileron roll. Nice!
That’s what I was thinking. Not a snap roll.
ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html questionable.
@@ExtremeAviationIceland Please notice that his ailerons are fully deflected. Snap rolls are a stalled condition that doesn't require aileron usage.
A snap roll is basically a “horizontal” spin. A momentary departure from controlled flight. Unlikely any pilot would attempt this in the departure phase of flight.
@@tironhawk1767 Snaproll on takeoff has been part of many airshows. Including of Gennady the pilot in this flight.
В итоге долетался?
Wow!
Видал, посадочка?
aaaaaaand greased. Excellent
That would've made me Yak if I was in the passenger seat.
Skills.
How could that 1930s aircraft takeoff with the weight of that guy's balls?
Hehe
Why am I hearing the Benny Hill theme song in my head?
Why is that?
@@ExtremeAviationIceland the name of his theme song is.... 😃
ua-cam.com/video/tNBL5OMeuno/v-deo.html
@@Twobarpsi ah I see 😄
More of a Aileron roll on takeoff. Not really a snap roll. Snap roll inputs, are full rudder and elevator deflection in the desired direction.
That's what he did but added full ailerons as well. See a closeup of the same takeoff here: ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html
@@ExtremeAviationIceland In a True snap roll, the wing is stalled!!!! A snap roll is nothing more that a horizontal spin. I'm pretty sure the wing was never stalled in the aileron roll performed in the video. And yes, I'm a pilot!
@@scotabot7826 I do snap rolls on the Yak 52. As he is pulling up he has almost full elevator and then pushes full right rudder. That will initiate a snap roll in the Yak 52. Immediately as the roll begins the elevator is neutralized so he wont loose energy and does not "bury" in the snap. With full rudder all you need is a split of a second with almost full elevator to snap it. Maybe he did not and faked it with ailerons only and rudder. You may be right but in slow motion it is questionable.
Energy management
Crazy pilot ^^
Not quite: GREAT pilot on a GREATLY designed plane!... A true CLASSIC.
That was not a snap roll. It was an aileron roll.
No it was a snap roll. The roll rate of the Yak 52 is 140-160 degrees a second. This roll took one second with application of full rudder and full elevator that is neutralized as soon as the roll begins. No way of rolling it with ailerons only at that rate.
Wow!!!
oh yes part of the checklist.roll roll ---- > gear down
Saluti acrobatici ✋
Just because he completed an aileron roll in a snap doesn't make it a snap roll.
That may be true, he may have faked it. But here is another video with more close up. ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html
No snaproll. I saw a simple aileron roll but no snaproll.
That’s what I was thinking
He uses full rudder and elevator as well. See this video of the same takeoff ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html
That isn't a snap roll, it's an aileron roll.
It´s debateable like you can see in the comments. There is another closeup video of this takeoff that has made people change their minds.
@@ExtremeAviationIceland No, it isn't debatable. They're two different and easily identifiable things.
@@prophetsnake ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html There is full rudder, full elevator that is neutralized right after to fasten the roll rate but also full aileron.
@@ExtremeAviationIceland Nope
@@prophetsnake the Yak 52 has a roll rate of 180 degrees. This roll takes 1 second. I took the time. So this roll is impossible without a snap.
That wasn't a snap roll.
True
No it is a snaproll with assisted aileron. Here is another video of this same takeoff: ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html
Yes it was. Here is the same takeoff: ua-cam.com/video/HiMCZ3qArYs/v-deo.html

@@garyvillette6920 I believe the man I replied to deleted his comment so it looks like I double posted. I just replied to two different comments.
Joli !
He knows his plane . Should see him do this with a six engine Antanov 225 Mirya !
Un vol de 1mn30 avec des figures de voltige dedans il faut le faire !!!
Not a snap..
But full aileron and rudder
Damn
I have vomited all over my iPad, thanks.
😆
this is not a snaproll just e regular roll, real nice though
It is a snaproll. The roll rate is not that much on a Yak 52. It is iniciated by rudder and elevator. With in roll ailerons as well.
I stand corrected
looks dangerous to take in the gear at such low level! perfect landing tho!"
Cuts drag for what he does next. The aircraft needs to be "clean" for maneuvers of the "third kind" ...
😳
I do that on my Pc all the time!- its easy!!
NOT a "Snap Roll" just an ordinary aileron roll!!
Roll rate of Yak 52 is 180 degrees per second. This full circle roll takes 1 second. Twice the speed. So it´s a snap roll.
This guy will not enjoy a long life
This video is 16 years old and the pilot is now old, bold and bald.
Da !
Шош так низко-то-ть...
Nothing special
Did you watch the landing?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
