    I've just bought an ATA as my first gun and it's brilliant. I did tonnes of research, yes they're not the same as a Beretta but it's £600 new and for someone new to it I think it's ideal. Actually hit more with it than on my lessons using their Browning, it's ultimately about what feels right and what you want or need to spend.

      Not saying the ATA isn't good, just saying it isn't a Beretta, which everyone else seems to say it is. They have a place, and fill it very well.

    I'm a massive fan of the ata, they have made a very shootable gun that is proving to be well made and reliable. No it is not on beretta's level- and its not trying to be. For the money not much new comes close to what you get, beretta and the likes will never make a gun for that end of the market, because it's too hard to design, build, supply a gun that looks good, handles, and is built to a high standard for the price.being made in turkey with access to cheap labour, good materials inhouse wood/steel etc means you get more than you pay for with the ata. Great gun, will not last 30plus years of heavy use like brownings, berettas, winchester 101s etc but for that money if you get 10 years thats still a good deal

    Great review and thank you for taking the time to do these. I have just had my second lesson and have now been given a date for the FA visit to hopefully get signed of. In the meantime I am trying to research my first gun keeping in mind I am really on a tight budget. I fully understand the buy cheap buy twice theory, but I am drawn to the ATA simply because it does get reasonable reviews, taking them from some of the more well known shooting magazines, but secondly it comes with a 3 year warranty and should I ever need it, its there to be used. Of course its no Berreta and people would be silly to think as much, however as a first gun for clay shooting, and maybe shooting 1 day a month, then I think it should be ok. I'm no competition shooter or someone who takes it really seriously, but rather someone who turns up on the odd Sunday morning, pops a few clays and has a cup of tea lol. As I say, thank you for the review and be assured it offers total novices like me some insight into different guns.

    Bought ATA SP the other week, only had about 250 through it so far but loving it. My only concern is it being front heavy a little, added some weight in the stock and switched to internal chokes and now it feels incredible.

I picked mine up (newer grey version) for £1,050 with a case and full set of beretta chokes almost brand new. I tried as many peoples guns down my local site before deciding on the A400. For the price I don't think there is a better all round gun. Buy the sporting version though. High quality goods wear in: low quality goods wear out.
    With obtaining a shotgun certificate being so difficult why would you waste it on a “cheap” gun?
    You could buy the Silver Pigeon new, keep it for a few years and lose £600 come resale. Buy the ATA and you would lose £600 instantly as, according to my local gunsmith, you can’t give them away second hand.
    I had this choice and went for a second hand Browning 325, with a spare set of non choke barrels instead. A quality gun that has never missed a beat.

      Horses for courses. My feeling is if you are not taking the sport too seriously and will shoot say 1000 cartidges a year guns like the ata make a lot of sense, plus the first gun factor if you have no experience learn on a cheapy and move up, i myself bought 1980 winchester 101 as my first because it was basically new in box, i now have 2 winchesters and an ata, it is my backup gun but tbh it is a great little gun. Feels very good in hand. No it is not anywhere near as nice as a b gun internally the materials and overall final tooling etc isn't there. But it shoots well and after couple 1000 rounds i am a big supporter.

    I started shooting a couple of years ago. First gun was a silver pigeon based on advice in the gun shop. No regrets gun clearly. However wish I’d started with something a bit cheaper and maybe more funky. Have moved on from the 686 so perhaps that wasn’t the best decision, but passed it on to my teenage son. I like the look of the ATAs and some of the sub 1k guns as a sensible alternative starter guns.

After about 18 months one of the screws holding the metal to the wood in the fore end sheared off but was easily fixed when appropriate HSS screws were found. I have traded up to an Italian gun which just fits me better. Was that the basic model SP?

    So, the ATA is a knock-off Beretta. A bit cheeky perhaps. But anyone wanting to buy a new gun for £600 hasn't got a Beretta on their shortlist. Funnily enough, when you are young and poor, if you buy an ATA and get on with it, then once there's a little more disposable income, you are possibly more likely to get that longed for Beretta. So Beretta might even profit from the ATA long term.

    Beretta is just amazing but I prefer Fabarm. I'm not a big fan of using shokes in a good over and under shottgun and my Fabarm is just amazing without them. I can broke a lot of clays and hunt very nice. Is my little baby.

    Hi, i'm looking for an O/U for my first shotgun for about 700 quid, do you think I should go for a brand new ATA or a used 686 (which, granted is gunna be a bit more pricy, but it's still close enough).

    • @tgsoutdoors
      @tgsoutdoors  6 років тому +1

      personally i would go 686 beretta, but thats just me

      The Gun Shop I was looking on your website and I see a silver pigeon and a silver pigeon 1 for sale. What's the difference between the two? I've read the silver pigeon is better designed than the SP 1. Any truth in that from your professional opinion? I'm looking for a sporting variant preferably.

      stephen mac both the silpig and silpig1 are internally the same. The engraving pattern changed slightly, meaning the engraving on the 1 is shallower, but they are mechanically the same. The barrels and chokes on the 1 are also an ‘upgrade’ on the previous models.

    Just bought a new Silver pigeon. Wood to metal fit is horrible. 2100 dollars U.S.A. does not buy much from Beretta.

    Buy italien EOS sporting gun from Fratelli Redolfi S.n.c much better gun than ATA for same money and have same good quality as 686 beretta. 🤔
    If you want the best Gun in the market for the money buy blaser f16 sporting pro Gun for 3000 Euros. Why buy New 686 sp sporting for 2800 Euros? When you can buy f16 blaser sporting for 200Euros more and it is pro Gun to.
    Good job blaser and Eos 👍

    • @tgsoutdoors
      @tgsoutdoors  5 років тому +1

      But a EOS sporting is £400 more than an ATA. And I would rather a pigeon Sport than a F16 for longevity - and the fact that a SP1 is £1650 and an f16 is £2500!
