Subscription model is a deal breaker. It’s actually not expensive but considering I can get what I need on LumaFusion on my iPad. Plus I have FCP on my Mac for the big stuff. If they eventually offer a one-time fee, I’d consider it. GREAT review!
I feel the subscription is the best model. Selling it for $299 one time is a non starter for iPad apps. Hopefully they’ll be committed to increasing features for that $50 / year.
Wow! So what storage do you reckon is necessary here if all the media is imported and stored on the ipad? I assume once the finished product is exported that the media can be deleted. Could you talk about media management long term? Most filming here done with gopro and cameras rather than iphone. Cheers and thanks for the videos!
Yes, once you’re done with your project you can offload the media to free up space. I do hope that the next version includes external drive editing, bc media mgmt will be an issue for a lot of people. A workaround in the meantime could be to import in FCP on the Mac, create proxies, and then import the proxy files on iPad. The share the project back to Mac, relink original media and export from there. I did this today and it worked.
@@JennJagerPro I would only use this version while travelling where we don’t have access to the Mac. Knew there would be a Mac work around, but leaving it at home for a few months. Ipad is a better option than laptop for the rest of my work, so this seems a great alternative! One more question… internet is only needed for the install of the app, right, not for ongoing use?
Super good review! I like the idea of using it as a little side show. I have my professional work that I do on my desktop, but when I go away for the weekend with my partner, we want to shoot a little video show and tell. I found Luma fusion to be inadequate, it’s probably just my learning curve, but I’ve spent thousands of hours on final cut and I’m sure it would be easy to transition. Looking forward to your next videos. I think it’s certainly worth 60 bucks a year- that’s the cost of a lunch for two
Haha I was having this conversation yesterday. Why are we pretending projects isn’t just a timeline? Why are we getting fancy with this? Great overview. I really enjoy the detail you explained in each feature giving me a good explanation of the tools methodology.
Part of me hopes they switch it back on the Mac app and then part of me thinks about how all my YT videos will be obsolete and confusing to noobs. I'm split!
As someone who’s struggling with FCP after years on LumaFusion I am wondering if this will be right for me, I find editing in LumaFusion is so easy but maybe it’s the iPad that makes it easy.. I see the power of FCP on Mac but boy I am lost, there’s just so much to take in and I just can’t cope with it…
Great video - thank you! Question: with Luma Fusion, I'm able to connect an external drive and work off of that without having to import/export directly from/to the iPad. I've heard this is not possible with FCPX for iPad - can you confirm that or not? That will be a dealbreaker for me and, I presume, many others that work with their media on external drives. If this does turn out to be the case I am hopeful that Apple will realize this and adjust accordingly in a future update.
no support for external drives. you have to import all footage to the library on the iPad. You can assign keywords to the footage you import but there no support for "Events".
100% agree with subscription v. one time payment. this is what sold me on changing from Adobe to apple; I've been migrating my whole eco-system to apple because of this.
The subscription fee is what will keep me from using this. I purchased the MAC version on Final Cut Pro about a year ago. I also use iMovie when I don’t have my MacBook handy and it’s just something simple. I would be willing to purchase it on a 1 time purchase. I just don’t edit enough to justify a subscription
Thanks for a great summary and advocating for us to have a non subscription option. FCP as a one off is literally the only reason I got into the entire apple ecosystem and if they make it subscribe only I’ll depart to DaVinci and probably get a PC.
Great review. I loathe subscription software, so won’t be touching this iPad version even though I’ve got an iPad Pro and use FCP on my Mac. The software as a service model is morally bankrupt, software isn’t a service, it’s an end product. Software Licensing Agreements aside, renting our software is something I personally don’t think we should stand for or support. I dropped Abobe like a stone when they got greedy and introduced Creative Cloud and now use Affinity and have never looked back, I dropped Cinema 4D when they got greedy and went subscription only and now use Blender and have never looked back. If the main FCP goes the same way then I will just drop it and find something else.
The Quickstart Tutorial is now live! ua-cam.com/video/-pYunDidZTc/v-deo.html
….oh, subscription model? Never mind.
I’m really excited for this! Especially, the Live Drawing feature. It will make my multiple step workflow to just a few.
It's great, would love to be able to have more stroke styles but also edit points. Maybe in version 2.0!

How do you create a voiceover audio file directly into Final Cut for iPad like in the desktop version???

The analogy of spouse to fun side piece 😂😂😂😂

How can I download the demo project? From where ?
Love your videos
On the Home Screen, there’s a button next to where it says “All Projects”.
Great review, thank you!! Trying to decide whether to get ipad or not
I've become addicted to my iPad. Maybe you shouldn't, lol!

The mobility part is awesome. Would love to be able to send projects from desktop to iPad, not just the other way around.

Nope, you gotta import into your media into the iPad, unfortunately. I’m guessing support for external drives is coming tho.

i love your videos ,it really helpful for me ,cuz i am chinese ,here pr is more famous than fcp
No latest iPad mini support? 😢 maybe there’s just not enough screen real estate.

how to purchase in india...there is not available on amazon in india...pls help dear..
The iPad? You can buy it directly from apple.com.
FCP 4 iPad is designed to sell more Apple Silicon iPads. I don't think I will be doing that for the foreseeable future.

I’ve never understood why they call the desktop project library
I think they were trying to make a splash when they launched X.
Final Cut Pro supper 360°video edit ?
The Mac version does, yes.
@@JennJagerPro I mean iPad version can or not ?
Glad I found your Chanel. New Sub.
Any website can buy this software???????????????
It's in the App Store

i feel like you have a good face for being a lawyer or tv presenter
Thanks, that's better than a face for radio!
$50 per year is nothing.
I’ve def spent more money on stupider things.
