Man, do I miss the original King Kong animatronic that used to be on the backlot tour. I feel fortunate to have experienced that tram segment before the tragic 2008 backot fire. Wish they'd bring it back.
My roommate was a tour guide back in the early 70's. That's when you could tour Lucy Balls' dressing room and New York Street was still dressed from shooting Earthquake. A friend of ours also a guide, at Christmas was dressed up as Santa Claus just to wave at tourists on the trams. At the end of the day when he took his wig off he discovered it was the same wig Charlton Heston wore in the Ten Commandments.
I miss the ice tunnel, and the shaky bridge. My first trip when I was 5 they had an elephant rides, props from Land of the Giants, and before leaving the special effects building you met H. R Pufnstuff.
Love this video! Am new to your channel, loving your content 😊 I'm from the UK and have been lucky to take various holidays to the US, and visit LA on a few occasions which means doing the Universal tour! Glad the 60th anniversary is being celebrated in all its glory, Universal is quite possibly my fave studio. Its a shame we don't really have anything like this here in the UK, besides the WB Harry Potter studios. Thanks for sharing your adventures, keep up the good work!
Oh, I must’ve missed you there! I had a 5:30 slot - we definitely stopped at the court house with Doc & the DeLorean AND saw the new dinosaur refresh. They must’ve skipped portions later in the day?? 🤔 This was such a great experience. Can’t wait to do it again when it opens up for the general public. Awesome Vlog as always! 👏👏🎉🎉
Used to sneak onto the backlot when I was a teen and pretend I worked there to see things being filmed. Took the tram tour for years before the fire but haven't been back since. Missing Prop Plaza. Loved the King Kong animatronic. So much better than gorilla-on-a-wire from way back.
5:10 - You mention that Universal City has an active firehouse. The firehouse is named Station 51 after the fire station in the TV series Emergency! (1972-1977), or so I've read.
It's weird to think that Universal would finally start caring for Woody Woodpecker in the park after leaving him absent for so long. Not counting the Netflix sequel.
Good morning Adam, finally your video is up. I know ur in the West Coast not me im in the south, waiting all morning for Adam to see video lol. Thanks for sharing this. 😎📸✌️
🌴🌴😉 Yes Adam 2 answer 2 your question, yes the tramcar U were questioning because the seat's were facing the opposite way! Those trams were used on tour since the 70's I know I myself and family rode on them back in 1975 we did the tour lol. My how things changed 😯
@@TheDailyWoo Sometimes injured families including 11yr old children take precedence over 49 year old children not getting to see “hilly valley” for the umpteenth time. Insensitive putz.
I actually saw the Gold plated Johnny 5 robot when I took the tour at the Universal tour down in Florida back in the mid 90's. I wonder if its still their?😮
This was fun Woo! I enjoyed seeing it in the daylight and at night. You are very good at narrating/explaining everything and your camera work is excellent. You don't whip the camera all around giving us whiplash. LOL! Thank you for taking me along. Just missing the Daphne. 😊
Looking at the merchandise I wonder if the team that creates it at Orlando is the same as Hollywood. Right now they are getting ready for the 25th anniversary of islands of adventure at Orlando and the T-shirts I’ve seen are horrendous. Those glam tram shirts look awesome.
I think you need Tim to start you on the path for a curly handlebar 'stache. I started mine 2 years ago and have not regretted the smiles it brings people.
@@ellenblood415 🤣 They are definitely absurd. But I get more thumbs up than downs. But yeah, they aren't for everyone. My wife (22 years) rolls her eyeballs and tolerates it.😅
Love the two tour trips you took, so at one point in second one, the guide says, over there is where the cathedral used to be?? wait, pointing out an empty space of where something used to be?? ohh that is so lame! Hey in my backyard, some british troops and American troops once walked! its true! How is Universal able to talk about a Disney movie? or why did Disney use Universal? does look like a good time!! Adam, just curious, were you home schooled?
Excellent vlog. One of my favorite rides. Went last year with my sister, they sat us in the first row next to the host, she was very good but the worst seats on the tram. Felt like being up against a wall. They have a screen playing, if I wanted to watch a screen fine, I only go on that ride to see the tour. Can’t see anything just look straight to the right and the screen is up higher so a crick in your neck. Worst ride I ever had on that tram, will request to be anywhere else.
The collapsing bridge was a highlight back in the day when the tour was 5 hours long. I believe it's closed due to age and safety. Also, the track at Jaws used to "break" and tilt, as if the tram was in danger of falling in the lake. Tram tires used to slip off the track, and get stuck. So they did away with the tilt. If you ever go through the games area by Minions exit, say hi to my pal at the "basketball" toss! He's quick with the quips!
Adam, you’re LUCKY I remembered you went to the west coast. I was WORRIED SICK!! But then remembered the time difference. I will accept your apology in the form of this video 😂💖 But don’t do that again, SHALL you?? 😇
The first time I rode that tram was 1984. They had Cylons from Battlestar Galactica fighting Colonial Warriors in the room that eventually had the earthquake and water flooding in. The spinning Six Million Dollar Man tunnel was the highlight of the tram tour for 15 year old me. You could also "lift up" the A-Team van and stand next to the Magnum PI Ferrari back then.
Rick (at 10:49) in the video is a guy I used to work with on the Universal lot. His name is Rick Alvarez...he and I used to drove the pumper trucks that pumped out the portable toilets/rest rooms that are on the sets. It's great to see that he still is working there...I got injured and had to switch jobs a few years ago. It's funny, a couple of the Production Assistants from one of the shows used to call us the "Doo Doo Dudes."
Middle aged men whining about not seeing certain things. Been watching for years when you actually travelled across the country showing the viewers things they probably will never see. Now it s just the same content of you hanging around theme parks. To be honest it's getting kind of creepy time to unsub.
I remember taking the tram tour in '86 when the tram would stop for a few minutes and let everyone off to go check out some movie props. They had the big, oversized chair and telephone, but my favorite by far was the A-team van with a counterweight on it so you could push it over. All the little boys like me were taking turns pushing it.
A tram crashed a couple days ago. Looks like it happened on that left turn from the Jurassic park sets to the flash flood area. Apparently it had brake issues and the back end of the tram crashed and whipped against the rail. 15 people were injured.
I’ve been a fan of your channel for quite some time. I’m happy that you are friends with both The Philly Captain and @malfuncsean. I’ve never been to Universal Hollywood, but I have been to Universal Studios Orlando several times while visiting family. I really miss the Kongfrontation ride and Jaws. I remember being on the Jaws ride when I was 9 in 1997 and then getting stuck in a mini boat ride on the lagoon at the Grand Floridian the next day. It freaked me out. Thanks again for the great content.
Did you know that the facade above the tanker truck in the Earthquake scene of the tour, was the old facade used in the original King Kong ride from back in the 90's?
My god Universal is SO CHEAPSKATE. "We repainted Earthquake and brought back the hanging shark that was in the park for decades (that we removed ten years ago for no good reason.. But the shark is smaller now and you have to wait in line for it." Also , "We sort of recreated the PROP PLAZA but now it's just a series of lines for cheap poorly recreated photo ops." I was going to say the same thing. Totally agree! It was amazing in person
@@StinkyGringo I was eleven the only time I saw the King Kong animatronic, so it would be great to see an animatronic again one day.
