Serato, Traktor, sync, pitch controls on decks etc etc are all technology so even djing on a pair of Technics 1210's could be argued as not real djing by the earlier generation of dj's who played on modified hifi turntables!. Fair points made and I started myself on technics but what I am getting at is elitism. This is real music, this is real art, this is real djing etc etc. Technology is evolving and changing the way we all do things and as you said you moved from belt drives to direct drives because they were more responsive and suited to what you wanted to do with your ideas and skills.I don't see the point in putting my view of what is real or not on other djs for example as i'm sure you don't too. The mixing skills are not good in this video because ultimately is about what it sounds like and not the technology used in my opinion
I still think Annie did a good job in this, although there were some hiccups i thought it was still a great effort from both sides. but when MELE beyonce track came on there was a big mess up. but all in all i enjoyed it

Bad day at the decks for Annie Mac. For me it's more about song choice and flow of the mix. The mixing and song choice lost energy in the whole thing. Have a look at Monki and PDM, that's how to do it...Monki is really good, she needs to get a promotion!

Section 23 that's what happens when you don't know pitch control, mark is mixing on technics turntables, she is trying to mix from cdj nexus into it and can't use pitch correctly sync won't lock in time, been better if Pete Tong went b2b mark on turntables, Pete knows the art and pitch control, BBC R1 production team messed up big time here it's not good, but Annie is great radio host and person, she can learn pitch and the art, but going to have to practise that

I bought my first pair of 1200's in 1988 and had them for 25 years. Only sold them as I was sick of carrying crates of records around to gigs. On the rare occasion I venture out to play now I always turn off sync - hate it! But then I see my son (who has his own controller) and other dj's rely on Recordbox/Sync and have no idea how to actually mix. Sign of the times.....Annie was awful! I like that comment about PDM and Monki..that's way better (but I'll bet they're using sync as well). At least they know what they're doing. Well played Mr Ronson too. You save her

The Donna Summer and crazy love transitions have to be the worse from a pro DJ I have ever heard in club history But all jokes aside Wonderful radio host, so constructive advise here for Annie Her mixing is very bad because she don't know pitch control or basic mixing skills that come from turntable djin , she is trying to mix from cdj nexus into turntable, I respect her for trying as I think worlds top djs like Martin Garrix, David Guetta, tiesto, Dillon Francis, Steve aoki huge list of djs who would have bottled it if they couldn't sync via nexus cdjs, Steve Aoki would have just jumped into the crowd or throw cake and let Mark DJ lol so respect Annie for trying, this is good thing In way because its a reminder for DJ today of how important pitch control and art of mixing is key because these situations can occur, so bit of wake up call to Clubland today, Annie has highlighted finally what we all knew about club djs today, they use sync so this is constructive advise as she is fantastic radio presenter and great all round and can learn from this and develop pitch skills in future to avoid these problems, this is why learning the pitch on a turntable or cdj and training in your ear is important and djs today should practise it more and develop that skill moving forward, or study djs of Ibiza in the 90s on turntables like Carl Cox, Alex P, Brandon Block, Tall Paul, JFK, PeteTong, Sasha etc it's also wake up call to clubland or ibiza to stop booking producers who can't DJ or mix , we are not getting real djs today who can use pitch and mix , just because they ain't made record or name, so we need to book more talented club djs in skill level moving forward, once again it's constructive advise here only, djs who rely on nexus sync your missing out on the fun and art of real djin working the pitch, using the fader more , sounding more natural less computer robotic, I hope even super club DJ producers take note of this and it's probably whole host of R1 djs who can't use pitch not just Annie and might of failed here, if you can't use pitch or know basic mixing skills then are you a DJ, because no1 can take any of these now so called djs serious today and this only proves that fact? Can B Traits use pitch??? I don't think so, so very unprofessional and pioneer DJ , Serato DJ etc have lot to answer for by helping these djs just jumping in without learning the art or practise , that's why club Djs today even as far as Defected records DJs, Claptone for example, their mixes sound the same, no groove or natural feel, because they use sync and can't use DJ pitch on cdj 2000 mk2 nexus deck fact you will find! Good example or a club DJ who knows the art and skill of pitch mixing is DJ EZ, he uses pitch all the time on cdj nexus like it was turntable, all club djs should follow his example if they want their DJ sets to sound more natural to the ear otherwise they sound like computer CD, pioneer DJ need to look at this and remove tempo sync feature on their nexus cdjs in future product updates to address this clear problem otherwise this will happen again because all they know as DJ skill is tempo sync, they need to learn basic mixing and art of pitch it's simple but I'm sorry to sound harsh if I did I'm trying to be constructive with advise

I started on belt drive Numark decks, then got 1210s, it's the best way to learn to DJ. You need to know pitch control as a DJ - I now use a controller with turntables. I never use sync on my controller, where's the fun and skill in that! It's a shame these 'top' DJs don't know how to do this, they get paid enough!
Martin Herity yes agree 100% everything you say is spot on, they get paid so much surely they can get some DJ lessons in the art of mixing and pitch control, but I give Annie credit for trying given the situation many top club djs today wouldn't of had go with out sync on nexus
Martin Herity but what Annie has done here is highlighted now and club land and Ibiza needs to take note there is sync in play by lot of top djs who should know how to mix or pitch control without relying on nexus sync, serato DJ sync etc so lot of producers or sync DJ superstars will look at this with fear now that they must learn bit more in pitch control and basic mixing skills moving forward as this could happen to them live on stage and I'll call out Calvin Harris on that

Her mixing is very bad because she don't know pitch control or basic mixing skills that come from turntable djin , she is trying to mix from cdj nexus into turntable, I respect her for trying as I think worlds top djs like Martin Garrix, David Guetta, tiesto, Dillon Francis, Steve aoki huge list of djs who would have bottled it if they couldn't sync via nexus cdjs, Steve Aoki would have just jumped into the crowd or throw cake and let Mark DJ lol so respect Annie for trying, this is good thing In way because its a reminder for DJ today of how important pitch control and art of mixing is key because these situations can occur, so bit of wake up call to Clubland today, Annie has highlighted finally what we all knew about club djs today, they use sync so this is constructive advise as she is fantastic radio presenter and great all round and can learn from this and develop pitch skills in future to avoid these problems, this is why learning the pitch on a turntable or cdj and training in your ear is important and djs today should practise it more and develop that skill moving forward, or study djs of Ibiza in the 90s on turntables like Carl Cox, Alex P, Brandon Block, Tall Paul, JFK, PeteTong, Sasha etc it's also wake up call to clubland or ibiza to stop booking producers who can't DJ or mix , we are not getting real djs today who can use pitch and mix , just because they ain't made record or name, so we need to book more talented club djs in skill level moving forward, once again it's constructive advise here only, djs who rely on nexus sync your missing out on the fun and art of real djin working the pitch, using the fader more , sounding more natural less computer robotic, I hope even super club DJ producers take note of this and it's probably whole host of R1 djs who can't use pitch not just Annie and might of failed here, if you can't use pitch or know basic mixing skills then are you a DJ, because no1 can take any of these now so called djs serious today and this only proves that fact? Can B Traits use pitch??? I don't think so, so very unprofessional and pioneer DJ , Serato DJ etc have lot to answer for by helping these djs just jumping in without learning the art or practise , that's why club Djs today even as far as Defected records DJs, Claptone for example, their mixes sound the same, no groove or natural feel, because they use sync and can't use DJ pitch on cdj 2000 mk2 nexus deck fact you will find!
Good example or a club DJ who knows the art and skill of pitch mixing is DJ EZ, he uses pitch all the time on cdj nexus like it was turntable, all club djs should follow his example if they want their DJ sets to sound more natural to the ear otherwise they sound like computer CD, pioneer DJ need to look at this and remove tempo sync feature on their nexus cdjs in future product updates to address this clear problem otherwise this will happen again because all they know as DJ skill is tempo sync, they need to learn basic mixing and art of pitch it's simple but I'm sorry to sound harsh if I did I'm trying to be constructive with advise

I started on belt drive Numark decks, then got 1210s, it's the best way to learn to DJ. You need to know pitch control as a DJ - I now use a controller with turntables. I never use sync on my controller, where's the fun and skill in that! It's a shame these 'top' DJs don't know how to do this, they get paid enough!
