This all starts with me a Canadian learning Bourbon while on an my adventure with my 'Bourbon Guru' Mark, who by the way was wounded in the Vietnam conflict. A small piece of the story is covered in my video on the 'Knob Creek 12 - and the 55 MERCURY TRUCK BOURBON TRAIL'
This trip was about the two of us and a couple of ladies exploring America and Bourbon. We were on an adventure for 3 months travelling from Canada down through the US into Mexico. Mark knew and loved Bourbon and I acquired a palate and an education on this whiskey. Now let's get into Bob Dylan's Heavens Door.
The story of Heavens Door all started when the two whiskey business partners, Ryan Perry and Marc Bushala learned of Bob Dylan trademarking the "Bootleg Whiskey" name. They reached out to Dylan to see if he was interested in partnering up with them to develop and launch a new whiskey brand.
Ryan Perry was an experienced whiskey man from Diageo and Marc Bushala was the co-founder of Angel's Envy.
When Dylan decided to come on board they chose the name from Dylan's iconic song, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." That immediately had Heaven Hill's parent company, Evan Williams, filing a lawsuit, claiming copyright infringement on their Heaven Hill brand name. The law suit eventually seemed to have fizzled out.
We all know that Bob Dylan was an amazing & prolific song writer and musician but he has also has the talent as a writer and an artist. He has an ironwork studio outside of Los Angeles called Black Buffalo Ironworks, where he uses reclaimed metal objects from scrap yards across America to build extravagant gates. Each bottle of Heaven's Door either features a copy of a Bob Dylan iron gate work or one of the hundreds of paintings created by Dylan. Dylan is not just a celebrity marketing name used by the company. He has invested his money and his artistic creativity as well as being an advisor to the company.
The Heaven’s Door Distillery & Center for the Arts project that was to be a renovation of a 160-year-old church located in Nashville has now been scrapped. Their focus now is on the distillery that they purchased in Pleasureville, Kentucky which they have expanded and added a visitor center with tours. It is located on 160 acres of rolling hills astride Six Mile Creek, where they have restored an eighteenth-century grist mill, two eighteenth-century cabins and a Moravian barn. This property was once owned by Squire Boone, the brother of legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone. Until the new distillery has aged stocks Heaven’s Door Bourbon will be sourced from an undisclosed distillery or distilleries. That includes the Heavens Door 10 Year Old Straight Bourbon Decade Series 1. What we know is it is 100 proof and aged a minimum of 10 years from an undisclosed distillery in Tennessee. All they tell us about the mash bill is that that it has 22% rye added. That whiskey does not go through the Lincoln County Process so it is not charcoal filtered. So how is this whiskey in the glass? Take a seat, sit back and let's find out in this video. Enjoy and Cheers.

I asked a well informed Bourbon enthusiast & he claimed the over 20% rye mash looked to him like Dickel (but might be Tennessee Distillers Company)🤔so no help really. I have a bottle of Batch#1 I took a punt on, I'd differ in that I'd call it a eucalyptus maybe spearmint rye hit but I agree over priced but at least I get to sip along so that's a plus 😉🥃 Cheers Noel.

Hi James and Thanks for the feedback. I did get some mint at the beginning but for some reason it dropped off at the back end. I had a couple friends over the night before I did the review sipping on the lot 40 dark oak rye and the Lot 40 Cherry Wood Cask Strength Rye. I did get some eucalyptus out of the Lot 40 Cherry Wood. It was a real smack to the taste buds. It could have affected my palate a day later during the review. LOL.
