Herping γύρω από τη Θεσσαλονίκη Μάιος 2024 - σαΐτα, κονάκι, τυφλίνοι, φρύνοι, χελώνες κι άλλα

Herping in areas around Thessaloniki, Greece, May 2024. The first excursion happened to Chortiatis mountain starting from Platanakia region on May 11 with Vasilis. On the slopes, the first find was a female Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni). Soon after a blindsnake (Xerotyphlops vermicularis) around 23 cm. Then a yellow scorpion (Aegaeobuthus gibbosus). We continued with two male T. hermanni,, another X. vermicularis of 17 cm, a male slowworm (Anguis fragilis) of 35 cm and a female T. hermanni. A few Balkan pond turtles (Mauremys rivulata) can be seen in the stream. The second excursion happened to the same place on May 12 with Spyros, but in the evening. Near the water, a male common toad (Bufo bufo) was active. Also we caught two water frogs (Pelophylax kurtmuelleri), a juvenile and a male. On returning, we found two male yellow-bellied toads (Bombina variegata) and five B. bufo, a large female, small juvenile and three males, one of which was sitting on a stump. On the slope, we found a juvenile X. vermicularis of 7 cm, a young female green lizard (Lacerta viridis) and a male Mediterranean house gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus). Invertebrates included Pachyiulus hungaricus and P. flavipes millipedes, the slug Limax graecus and the snail Helix philibinensis. The third excursion happened to Karatasios Camp on May 15 with Vasilis. A juvenile X. vermicularis of 8 cm was found, and later a large male Dahl’s whipsnake (Platyceps najadum) around 1,1 m. Otherwise common invertebrates, fruit trees and funny graffiti. The fourth excursion happened to Oreokastro on May 17 with Vasilis and Spyros. We started with young male T. hermanni and male Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca). We continued with banded centipede (Scolopendra cingulata). At the lake shores, many B. bufo metamorphs had gathered, as well as a few P. kurtmuelleri. At the hills, first a female and a male T. hermanni, and then a group of four T. hermanni, one of which was female. Orchids included Anacamptis pyramidalis and Himantoglossum calcaratum. We continued with two male and two female T. hermanni, two X. vermicularis and a hidden Balkan green lizard (Lacerta trilineata). On returning, we found a hatchling of slider turtle (Trachemys scripta) and later a female T. graeca, a male T. hermanni, X. vermicularis, A. gibbosus, two female conehead mantis (Empusa fasciata), the assassin bug Rhinocoris iracundus, and a hatchling T. hermanni.
Herping σε περιοχές γύρω από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, Μάιος 2024. Η πρώτη εξόρμηση έγινε στο Χορτιάτη ξεκινώντας από τα Πλατανάκια στις 11 του μηνός με τον Βασίλη. Στις πλαγιές, το πρώτο εύρημα ήταν μια θηλυκή κοινή χελώνα (Testudo hermanni). Σύντομα μετά ένα σκουληκόφιδο (Xerotyphlops vermicularis) γύρω στα 23 εκ. Έπειτα ένας κίτρινος σκορπιός (Aegaeobuthus gibbosus). Συνεχίσαμε με δύο αρσενικά T. hermanni,, έναν ακόμα X. vermicularis στα 17 εκ, ένα αρσενικό κονάκι (Anguis fragilis) στα 35 εκ κι ένα θηλυκό T. Hermanni. Λίγες ποταμοχελώνες (Mauremys rivulata) διακρίνονται στο ρυάκι. Η δεύτερη εξόρμηση έγινε στο ίδιο μέρος στις 12 του μηνός με τον Σπύρο, αλλά το απόγευμα. Δίπλα στο νερό, ένας αρσενικός χωματόφρυνος (Bufo bufo) ήταν δραστήριος. Επίσης πιάσαμε δύο κοινούς βατράχους (Pelophylax kurtmuelleri), ένα νεαρό κι ένα αρσενικό. Στην επιστροφή, βρήκαμε δύο αρσενικές μπομπίνες (Bombina variegata) και πέντε B. bufo, ένα μεγάλο θηλυκό, ένα μικρό νεαρό και τρία αρσενικά, ένας από τους οποίους καθόταν σε κομμένο κορμό. Στην πλαγιά, βρήκαμε ένα νεαρό X. vermicularis στα 7 εκ, μία μικρή θηλυκή πρασινόσαυρα (Lacerta viridis) κι ένα αρσενικό μεσογειακό γκέκο (Hemidactylus turcicus). Από ασπόνδυλα οι χιλιοποδαρούσες Pachyiulus hungaricus και P. flavipes, ο γυμνοσάλιαγκας Limax graecus και το σαλιγκάρι Helix philibinensis. Η Τρίτη εξόρμηση έγινε στο Στρατόπεδο Καρατάσιου στις 15 του μηνός με τον Βασίλη. Βρήκαμε νεαρό X. vermicularis στα 8 εκ και αργότερα μεγάλη αρσενική σαΐτα (Platyceps najadum) γύρω στο 1,1 μ. Κατά τα άλλα κοινά ασπόνδυλα, καρποφόρα δέντρα και αστεία γκράφιτι. Η τέταρτη εξόρμηση έγινε στο Ωραιόκαστρο στις 17 του μηνός με τον Βασιλη και τον Σπύρο. Ξεκινήσαμε με μικρό αρσενικό T. hermanni κι αρσενικό T. graeca. Συνεχίσαμε με σαρανταποδαρούσα (Scolopendra cingulata). Στην όχθη της λίμνης, είχαν μαζευτεί μετάμορφα B. bufo, καθώς και λίγοι P. kurtmuelleri. Στους λόφους, εντοπίσαμε θηλυκό κι αρσενικό T. hermanni, και σύντομα μετά μια ομάδα τεσσάρων T. hermanni, ένα από τα οποία ήταν θηλυκό. Οι ορχιδέες περιελάμβαναν Anacamptis pyramidalis και Himantoglossum calcaratum. Συνεχίσαμε με δύο αρσενικά και δύο θηλυκά T. hermanni, δύο X. vermicularis και μια κρυμμένη τρανόσαυρα (Lacerta trilineata). Στην επιστροφή, βρήκαμε νεοσσό αμερικανικής νεροχελώνας (Trachemys scripta) στη λίμνη, κι αργότερα θηλυκή T. graeca, αρσενικό T. Hermanni, X. vermicularis, A. gibbosus, δύο θηλυκές κωνοκέφαλες μάντιδες (Empusa fasciata), τον σαρκοφάγο κοριό Rhinocoris iracundus κι έναν νεοσσό T. hermanni.
