    Note:
The overwhelming majority of used accordions in the world are 50-90 years old. This is because the accordion market collapsed in the late 1960's owing to the cultural shift toward rock and roll and the hegemony of the guitar. Unlike some instruments which may be perfectly fine if stored properly for decades, any accordion that old, even one kept in ideal conditions, will need many hours of restoration work and tuning before it functions properly. See bigsqueezyacco... for more detail on this. Most of the used accordions for sale online (and even in musical instrument shops that do not specialize in accordions) have not received this attention. Therefore, the price of purchase is likely only a fraction of what you will have to spend to get the accordion in shape. All the accordions I sell have been completely restored and tuned. A piano accordion has between 260 and 448 reeds, which must be painstakingly tuned by a skilled professional - an extremely time-intensive process for an older accordion which, in all likelihood, has not been tuned since it left the factory. I typically spend anywhere between 30 and 80 hours getting these instruments ready to sell, and my prices are already as low as possible. If I did the math, I would be making below federal minimum wage on most of these, but I try not to think about that. It is satisfying to revive beautiful old instruments that would otherwise face the ignominious fate of hanging from the wall of a restaurant or worse.
