Using LED Lights For Wedding Photography | FalconEyes F7 Fold Review

  • A few months ago while I was searching for LED constant lights, FalconEyes reached out asking if I wanted to review their F7 Fold light. It was on my list of gear that I was considering as it was bi-color, USB-C internal charging, and had a good form factor so I agreed. When I started to make this video, I was planning on making two different ones. One for my Patreon talking about how I use LED lighting instead of flash for lots of my wedding photography and another reviewing the light and showing some sample photographs for UA-cam. Instead I figured I’d combine the two into a little more in depth video that will both talk about the tech and the technique as well.
Want to learn how I actually use this gear and run a successful wedding and elopement photography business?

So glad to come across this video! I also use LED lights on tripods for indoor ceremonies and speeches during reception. Sometimes couples don't have the spotlighting and they are in the dark. Can't always rely on videographers with their spotlighting because not all my couples hire one. LED light helps illuminate them and guests are able to see them. Sometimes I place one on the side to create some rim lighting. Definitely easier to capture the moments without being so intrusive with flashes going off.

Great video. I like the flash look but these definitely have their benefits

So heartening! I’ve got epilepsy and I hate having to deal with flashes on either side of the camera. Can’t wait until people let go of flash altogether.

Great video. Thank you. I am trying to figure out which of the many choices to pick. I like the idea of having two but being able to divide them....is it hard to take them apart? Also in your photos, do you ever have the LED light on your camera? And is there now an app to use it??

I have very similar philosophy on being a distraction in many moments of the wedding day and I also have been using led light for some moments that require additional lightning to get the images that are required. That being said I have had many times that guests or someone else from wedding party comments to me that I should turn off my light ( even when I keep it as dim as possible for me to get the shot ) because its ruining the atmosphere for them. Atmosphere being almost pitch black with couple of candles or torches... Not saying that blasting flash and partially blinding them for few seconds would be a better solution, but lack of understanding of photographers needs for some light is missing from peoples minds sometimes.

Ah I understand that too, I guess my way of doing it is also focusing on being really subtle which is why a bi-color light that can match the ambient color temperature while also just filling in some shadows as a really really soft key light is the way to go.

FWIW, I’ve had lots of people say “thank you” for adding the lighting, but have never had someone complain.

Do you think you could get a good hazy effect from this? If it was situated behind the couple? x

I'm all about my halogen lights during reception. I do mix them with flash sometimes.

The strobe settings could be really cool for a long exposure?

You can use the app on your phone that syncs both lights. It even let you select a color through your camera so that they adapt to it and set the mood.

I have an LED panel but only use it in tight spots or to assist with macro shots of rings etc. I don't like them blinding everyone in the room but might consider them for portrait shots with B&G only....if its dark enough to use them. You're never using LEDs at daytime to kill the sun! Some value in studio too?

what do you think of the new godox ML60 LED light?

    • @benjhaisch
      @benjhaisch  3 роки тому

Looks awesome, it isn’t bi color though and is a lot larger and would probably need a stand/modifiers. Just a different beast.

@@benjhaisch I need to learn why and when bi color is desirable or necessary. Yes ML 60 is larger creature for sure. Can be hand held I think. Lights like the Falcon Eyes may produce more than I realize. Unfortunately only know what I think I have seen, not experienced. The battery option for ML60 caught my interest. At a wedding, a light assistant might be needed............ Thank you for your time, enjoy following you.

There’s a Nanlite Forza 60B which looks like what Godox copied. But the Forza is bicolor.

But in my case, I use a Godox SLB60Y which has tungsten color.

travelling light is not advised for a professional...This is not about a photographers convenience.

Oh shush. If a photographer is chosen by a client because they like their work then that is the end of the discussion. Performing photography by carrying piles of extraneous crap will not make someone a better photographer.
