I’m American… grew up in the woods, had to learn guns by age 7. When I moved to England, I had a connection to get a gun within a week. So, yes, people can get guns if they want them… kinda. Cause in England, a 22 pistol with no ammo was like £20,000. In America I can get a rifle for $100. No questions asked. I wouldn’t mind answering a few questions. I wouldn’t mind taking some mental health or safety tests to ensure I’m ok to have a gun. And if we put some restrictions on the guns, yes, bad people can still get them. But it’ll be harder than “here ya go, 18 year old insane kid… have a weapon of war.”

    • @bill45colt
      @bill45colt 4 місяці тому

no weapons of war that are automatic, are legal for civilians to own. There are more deaths by hammers and kitchen knives and bicycles than there are by guns. Go to your local gun shop and see how easy it is to purchase. You have to have a background check and a federal approval. Why are not gun confrontations not reported in the news?? There are over a million confrontations where victims only presents a gun, when the criminal runs away and never a shot is fired. Guns saving lives doesnt get reported. If you remove democratic controlled cities like chicago, detroit, baltimore, new orleans, los angeles from the total, america drops to nearly the bottom of the list on crime ridden cities. How come 78 % of gun crimes are done by democrats? An AR15 has never been bought by any army in the world,,,its not a weapon of war. This guy is really entertaining,,,but hes spouting lies and ignorance. He has no education of guns or laws. We can see how effective gun laws are by noting that most gun crimes are done in gun free zones. Each of the mass shootings in the past 30 years were illegal. We had plenty of paper laws against that,,,,that are not being enforced.......

here are 10 small tips to any US citizen that wants to visit Australia.
    1. leave your attitude along with your guns at the departure lounge.
    2. don't panic! it will be there waiting for you when you get back, we don't want it.
    3. you cannot buy a gun here as easily as you can in the US, nor carry a gun over here, this is not the wild west as it is in the USA.
    4. enjoy the sites the food and the different cultures.
    5. Australia has a culture, they have song, dance and food and we are proud of it.
    6. The US has, Levi's jeans, McDonalds, mass shootings, guns and bombs and you are proud of it?
    7. take lots of photos, buy the occasional souvenir.
    8. when you get back to the US "the home of the brave and the free," pick up your gun and your attitude, you will notice it is still there intact as you left it.
    9. Show your friends the photos and tell them you had a nice time.
    10. Oh and don't forget to tell your friends you experienced real freedom for the first time in your life not having to carry a gun!

A simple counterpoint is that, as you surely know by the reality of violence In the UK, the US and abroad, no one has a greater incentive - or responsibility - to protect your loved ones or yourself than you. Most US gun owners insist that they need guns to be able to protect themselves and their families, however, what percentage of all shooting victims genuinely were shot because they were trying to harm or murder the gun owner?... and what percentage were school children and teachers, victims of other mass shootings, innocent bystanders in gang wars, su1c1de5, shot by their own relatives for monetary gain, or in place of divorce, children who accidentally shot by other children who found a gun at home and were just playing, were shot by a father or mother in a custody battle, or committed familicide, etc.,?

Jim is a funny guy, but he does exaggerate a little bit, firearms have never been banned in Australia.
I’ll go into more details below, but here’s some USA stats from last year:
    * There were approx 640 mass shootings in the USA in 2023 (mass shooting = 4 or more people shot, either killed or wounded).
*Those approx 640 mass shootings in 2023 average out to 1.75 per day
    * There were 40,000+ firearm related death in the USA in 2023.
    * In the USA there are MORE firearms than people!
Being an Aussie, guess which country I’m going to be safer in? And it ain’t Merica!!
Back to Jim, firearms are not banned in Australia, actually there are more registered firearms here today compared to back in 1996.
    But.....
Since 1996 we have introduced stricter licensing and registration.
Any Australian can apply for a firearm licence (except for those with a criminal record or a history of mental illness), but you have to have a ‘valid’ reason, such as: sport shooter, hunting, collector, farmer, pest control, etc.
Licensing is also strict regarding the ‘type’ of firearm, eg, semi-auto rifles are restricted to people such as professional pest controllers, you can’t have ‘any’ firearm you want, it has to match the type of licence you have.
The average idiot in the suburbs can’t own a semi-auto firearm, or any firearm, without a valid reason, for obvious reasons!
Self defence is not a valid reason in Australia, we don’t live in fear.
Yes we do have firearms in Australia, but linked to sensible rules and laws, unlike Merica.
    Cheers,

@@bleinhauser Because we don't need to. More guns equal more violence. America has more guns than people. The tighter restrictions you have on guns the less people have access to them. No danger = no need to defend your home. The problem with Americans, other than the fact that you guys are paranoid as f*ck, is you don't learn from your mistakes. You've had countless mass shootings yet refuse to strengthen gun laws because you care so much about rights and freedom. People like you don't seem to realize to much freedom is a bad thing. That's why countries like Britain and Australia have such a low level of gun violence. Because we care more about the safety of the people than their ability to do whatever the hell they want.
