I also find it all to be quite weird. I've been licensed for 50-years, and TEST has always meant somebody is testing and not expecting any response. CQ TEST would be an oxymoron. Most contests have their own little acronym like CQ SS, or CQ SKN. Use them!
We should be CELEBRATING the fact that there are so many ACTIVE HAMs, plus CW no less. It all started with CW, it's refreshing to see that the art of CW isn't lost and still going strong. 73 WW1ZRD
Heh, funny. It's a CW contest. If you try to use FT8 or PSK you'll probably find CW doesn't really interfere with it much. That's what is cool about the digital modes, they can operation amongst and below the noise and still work.
They are not contesting, they are testing. Normally done before the contest but now during. Obviously a planning error or herd behavior that started when one dude did a test.
Thank you missed the point dude the average ham doesn't spend all weekend contesting the typical contest is usually some rich asshole with more money than brains. The average ham the typical ham just wants to be able to get on his or her radio and talk to their friends without a bunch of bullshit contests. Comcast in contesting sucks!!!
Personally, I dislike all of the nets that are infesting the bands. If we are being honest, most, if not all are pointless. I also don’t understand pota. Why just rack up contacts? Talk with people, build relationships. Have qsos.
I agree about the nets. Not POTA. I don't ragchew. I have friends to talk to. Conditions can be fleeting. There may be a DX station patiently waiting to make contact with you or the other station. But because conditions fade, you disappear & a contact is lost. POTA shows amateur radio to the public. It shows the ability to operate in remote locations. & it can spark an interest in the service to kids, which is where the interest should start.
"Test"? I've heard it too and don't understand why. This wasn't a thing back in 1993 when I first got my license. "Test".....maybe it's like how all doctors are "practicing" medicine. 73 and Happy Thanksgiving!- W1RMD.
I've never heard cw called an infestation before. It was the first mode of communication signal (sort of) I got that guy's call as T3RJ.... something... I think. You kept talking over it.
So if it's the weekend, any weekend, it's a contest. I always just go to the warq bands which usually has [less] contesting than the other bands. I agree though, CW doesn't belong in the other segments like digital. It's really nothing more than a gentleman's agreement but still. Us CW folks don't like it when ft8 creeps into our neck of the woods.
If You don't like or understand CW, that's OK with me. But You shouldn't blame others because they DO like CW and contesting. I work a lot in CW mode, and I would never call other HAM's an 'infestation' when they choose to work in in SSB mode... Just my 2 cents, ON4JBS
@@Capecodham The capitalization is maybe incorrect indeed, I see it a lot with lowercase letters as well. @@Capecodham No and no.... 1. A lot of hams DO experiment, they are not only operators. You can build antenna's, filters, even transmitters - it is your choice how deep you will go into electronics. Is this what they commonly refer to as a sad ham video? I did not capitalize ham in an effort to save you some oxygen, sir.
It is sad that men leave their families to do something with no redeeming qualities.
