He speaks very well slow enough for most people to get exactly what he's saying the information is direct to the point and he speaks in a way that is relatable to most people. if big corporations can take advantage of the tax code we should too thank you so much for your help.
Thanks Brian, I really appreciate your simple videos, you are a great teacher. Some things I know and just need to be refreshed on, I feel lucky to have found you, a straight shooter who gives me ALL the info I need but with NO FLUFF. Brother, please don't change a thing, these are the most helpful videos I've watched this year. I appreciate you so much. Thanks for being such a good person, and so solid!
Oooo~ 👀✨ You lost me after I heard “capital gain” in the beginning, and just as I was about to give up and close the video, you convinced me to stay and keep listening when you defined what capital gain means, and got me hooked with that “tricky” quiz. 🤣
Thank you for this! I have watched several YT videos on this subject and yours is by far the easiest to understand. I've been hesitant to even get started with short-term trading because I hate complicated tax filing so much. Now I'm thinking that it's not necessarily all that complicated.
Came here to learn what the heck is short term capital gains tax, and wondered why a channel explaining tax had >1 million subs. I know have clarity on both, 10/10 vid and great channel
@@clearvaluetax9382 What if you add the same stock throughout the year. Can you sell partial of your holding for long term capital gain? or is it considered long term from the last time you buy that stock?
Short term capital gains includes the regular tax you pay, i.e. it includes both federal state. In the TSLA example provided, i.e. 22% tax bracket, and if you pay 9% as state tax(CA), it is 31 overall.
Thank you for the vid Brian, so is options contracts different when it come to win and loses ? Since it has nothing to do with stock holdings. And what if you held ur stock less than a year and sold at a loss instead of a gain, would that be a short term stock loss write off ?
Oh and tax season is coming, this year should be big for that Industry since soooo many people got into stocks... I hope if ur still doing that business it’ll go good for you this tax season buddy 📈 cus id wanna do my taxes with you lol, can learn so much more
Brian is the man! I have tons of friend made money on stock this year. And they forgot to leave out the tax. I want to see their reaction when they receive that tax bill
Hi there, could you make a video on taxes on options trading? In addition, could you please help clarify wash sale rules for both stocks and options trades? Lastly, if you could clarify how wash sales apply to different options strategies like Iron Condors or Put Credit Spreads that would be so so much appreciated. Thanks love your content :)
Always enjoying Brian's videos. Very intentional in providing free education and delivering on tax-based value to the general public - to help us gain more knowledge and tax skills. Salut to Brian!
Ive recently started day trading and swing trading, thanks for all the help you’ve given in literally everything ive been doing this whole year CVT!! 😂✊🏼❤️
Suppose a person has no gains does anything need to be reported ? If a person sell a stock, what happens , ie 31 Dec 2020 , and the person buys the same stock 30 Jan 2021 ???
Hi Brian I hope you had a great Christmas and enjoyed it on a personal note you're a little Christmas tree yesterday looks sadder than that stimulus plan lol
Thanks for all the planning and work you put into this video. While I still find taxes a boring topic, you made it interesting and kept my attention throughout the video.
I just signed up for the Webull link on your description box, after watching the investing playlist you have here on YT. I am excited to start. Thank you for all the information Brian you provide.
A little bit confused not sure if this question was answered in the last bit of the video but; What if you have capital gains and reinvest the money into new positions? Im assuming you will still be taxed on the capital gains regardless? New to stock trading just wanted to be sure I understood correctly. Thank you for the content!
Hey new sub here and new investor, I pretty much understand everything and how it's all gonna work. I also have already made great profit. My question is once you pay the taxes owed on your realized gains...do you get a tax return for every cent you paid or do you get most of it or is it paid and that's it, it's gone? Is it like regular wage taxes where you receive some back (depending on situation of corse) This is my first time paying taxes on realizex gains from robinhood and I'm wondering what I should expecting to get back for a return on something like this. Not enough videos on this part. Thanks so much in advance your content is seriously quality. loving it! 💯🔥🔥🔥
So using your Tesla example, what if I took that $100 of profit and bought another stock with it, will I still owe short term capital gains taxes? Assuming I don’t pull the $100 of profit from my brokerage account?
Thank you. You explained it very clear. What about tax on options trading? How will I be taxed if I bought a leap? Let’s say more than a year out and I made a lot of money. Does it also consider long term gain?
I love the way Brian breaks things down! Send him to D.C. so he can hold a seminar to congress and the president about what their job descriptions actually are!
Thanks for this timely information, as I have stocks from WeBull for the first time this year (I never owned stocks before this year); basically stocks not worth much. But they're a starting point.
Which country do you pay the taxes to ? The country that gives you the money, the country where you started investing in stocks, the country you cashed your stocks in ? I am a bit confused, any help on the matter?
Hey great videos man.. thanks. I own a good amoint of dogecoin and I have a good question that should make for a good video. What are the rules if you take stock profits and use it to buy investment properties. (1031 exchange). I know from property to property using 1031 exchange negates the 15% capital gains. What would that do for a short term profit at 37%..and what would it do for the long term tax rate at 20%.. i'm planning on selling when i have way more than the 400k 😁. Thanks.
not sure if this is a dumb question, but what if you make very little profit after getting rid of an unwanted stock? let's say an under $100 profit. I'd like to not have to wait for the 1099B form to file my taxes over a ridiculous amount.
Does the wash rule apply if you harvest a loss in a regular stock account at the end of the year, but then immediately buy the same stock in an IRA account?
Great info please make something like this on how to claim the 401k covid withdrawal reporting on your 2020 2021 and 2022 im having a hard time finding what its going to look like for example withdrawed 24k in 2020 but want to claim 16k in 2020 4k in 2021 and 4k in 2022 - Thanks Charles
How would this work for RSUs? In your example, the gain was taxed ($100). Would the entire stock be taxed for RSUs since it was technically given by the company and it was no money out of pocket?
How about this example. I have 100 stocks of X company for over a year. X company dips so I buy another 50 shares and sell it before a year. Which shares are being sold, 50 of my original and get taxed lower capital gain or the new 50 shares and charged the higher tax rate? Thank you in advance
Can you explain how taxes work for credit spreads? If I sold a credit spread for a premium of 1 dollar and bought it back for .50 cents instead of letting it expire to the full amount, does that mean I only get short term capital gain taxed on .50 cents? So do taxes work the same with credit spreads where you only need to worry about the total overall gain made in the year? If i lost money on a spread then does that count towards the "total gain"? So for example.. if my next trade i sold a spread for 1 dollar but decided it wasn't going the right way and bought back at 1.30 making a .30 cent loss (or rolled but had a debit of .30 cent= either way making a loss) Now adding before my gains of .50 cent gain minus .30 cent loss = .20 gain>>> do i only get taxed based on the .20 cents gain if my total for the year is .20?
Good morning I wanted to know what do u think is the best amount to put in on a stock if u just starting out n new to it thanks for all the hard work n have a good day
