Xaver Varnus' first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Debussy. He has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album "From Ravel to Vangelis" (SONY, 2007), is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, and in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia Peninsula, where he opened Varnus Hall in a 19th century church. "Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould" (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper). "He is one of the most influential figure in organ music in the early twenty-first century." (Mark Wigmore, The New Classical FM, Canada).

Such a beautiful interpretation of Nun Komm Der Heiden Heiland. I'm really inspired by you! Sometimes, we organists are so afraid to step out of the mainstream - fearing ridicule - simply because, for example, we chose to play something "slow" (whatever that means), or even using experimental registration. You seem to ignore the naysayers - and are comfortable being you. Thank you!
The tempo takes getting used to. But very nice.
Bach was a great improvisor whose musical directions were deliberately vague so as not to constrain future organists. I've no doubt he'd be perfectly happy with this interpretation.

It's not that hard to step out from the mainstream. It's just important to try it out and get used to it. The best way i can tell you is do to it right from beginning of Organ playing and don't be afraid to try your own registrations.
@@EwicoCylinder My thought: first learn it as it is most commonly performed; THEN experiment, so you can tell the difference. For organ music, this is especially important because no two organs or churches or halls are alike, and also because registration is a key part of how the music can be varied even if the remainder of the performance remains similar.

Nagyon tetszik nekem ez a kis templomba épített orgona, mint megoldás. Egész jól szól a kis tér ellenére, legalábbis egy Hi-Fi fejhallgatóval. Várom a következő koncerteket.
